  • I put on the new cassette and had to take it out on a test ride! In the video there are details on how I swopped out the cassettes.
Here's links to the gear I used-

I did a similar mod on a gravel bike last year. I also said I'd never do big ring front and back. First gravel sportive I did after that I did do it. Ripped the rear derailleur apart! Doh!

If adding a bigger cassette you need a longer chain, also check your rear derailleur can handle the extra teeth. You can buy hanger extensions that will allow your rear derailleur to handle the extra teeth

I was alway taught to put a new chain on, likewise a new cassette if it’s a new chain. Saves on ware from old to new. I think the lower pulley looks rather far forward and I would be worried that leaving it how it is might cause your hanger to break. If I were you I’d be carrying a spare hanger meantime.

Cheers Michele, that's what everyone was saying on the forum.... thought i'd try it out with my current, seems a shame to chuck a perfectly good chain. Seems ok on this little 30mile test ride. I'm just mindful of not going Big ring to Big ring!
I'll probably change the chain at some point but that's another day ;-)

@@RoadyPacking-CyclingAdventures yes I changed a cassette on a bike I bought to put on the smart trainer but still got a new chain as it was also a new cassette on the trainer. Old cassette and chain still sitting there but Intend to see them as a set.
