I love that he speak so honestly, he doesn't just say what he thinks everyone would want him to say like movie stars do... he answers every question with depth and perception.
So...here are my thoughts on the negative comments about DDL seeming to be too self-absorbed on sets (staying in character and others on set addressing him by character names)...as Scorsese himself said in the Charlie Rose interview, and Spielberg later agreed, when in character and wardrobe, there is no Daniel as he sits in this chair in this interview. He WAS each of the characters he played, and it’s almost impossible to imagine this mild mannered human is somewhere buried within those incredible transformations. One simply wouldn’t expect Bill Cutting to sound or act anything like Daniel while in between takes. We never think it’s odd that our sports figures keep their intense game faces. I find the constant grilling of Daniel about his “method” to be exhausting and can’t blame him for never getting to the simple minded explanation interviewers seem to want to hear. This is, by far, the most relaxed of his interviews-mostly because he’s not being questioned about how he chooses to work. In the end, all anyone can say is that, however he got there, he always arrived at a truly magnificent place. We are lucky to have his work to enjoy.
finally a comment that i can agree on, i'm just tired of how the media has always treated him as "serious and weird" when he couldn't be further from it.
Yes!!! I've been looking for an interview where he gave Marlon Brando his due. To me Daniel Day Lewis is the best, then right behind him is Marlon Brando.
He's saying that MS's work doesn't get the appreciation it deserves & it's not about the awards or the noms he gets but more about people realizing how much Martin immerses himself in his art. I agree, ppl usually only know the films that make it to the award ceremonies but my personal favorite MS's works are the most underrated & overlooked by stupid Hollywood, it is just such a crappy place to make cinematic art. I never got over how he didn't take the best director oscar home for The Aviator.
I agree. Yes, he is recognized and well known but not quite revered all around. I think it has a lot to do with audiences. In France for example, people enjoy conflict and drama in movies more so than here in America where most blockbusters are action packed films that thrive more on effects. both industry want to make money, just different markets. That might be why audiences else where know how rare a talent like Scorcese is. I hate to say they appreciate him more, but in a way it's true.
Nitpicking A**hole He lives in Éire/ireland with his wife and kids he played my uncle Christy Brown in my left foot and has been to ireland since he was a kid and his dad is frm Leitrim!!! A gent and a great funny humble man in person!! 🇮🇪
There's an ill-informed interviewer. Review Hoffman/Olivier story from Dustin's point of view. Olivier as not being condescending if you discover the true story.
If Daniel Day-Lewis made an audiobook, I would listen to it everyday because his voice is so calming lol
What an extraordinary man. I'm a completely dazzled by him!
He has got it. He has hit the nail on the head. "give yourself or do something else"

A must for actors , he is such a great method actor,
So gentle sounds his voice while he's speaking.
È fantastico quest'uomo!! Mi incanta la sua modestia, la sua autenticità e in quell'ambiente non è scontato!!❤❤❤

I can really hear the Irish twang in his voice. He must have spent a lot of time back home (Éire).

WHO THE FUCK DISLIKED THIS?
Daniel Day Lewis
so true
@kingcaesar5 Charles Laughton was a ham but the greatest ham of them all. An incredible actor.
laughton was the greatest
I don't entirely understand his comment about Scorcese being unrecognized. Is he referring to his work ethic? Mentality?
Had a stint as a cobbler too. Being rich affords you these opportunities I suppose.
@greatgig412
But a good photograph can be a work of art. And some oil paintings suck.
James Lipton & his agent.
@greatgig412 Laughton was the greatest ham this side of lee j cobb. I do enjoy some of his performances, but for fuck sake man, add a little subtlty.
Watch Rembrandt or the never made i Claudius

Yeah, it's been blown out of proportion.
