Daniel Day-Lewis is a wonderfully unique human being who courageously dedicates himself in his work to the truth of his characters and his own being. But, in order to display and share this naked truth, he literally leaves his self aside to become a living character. I am grateful for his profound gift to us all. DANIEL, YOU SHINE THROUGH THE DARKNESS. Thank you.
He'll always be one of the baddest MoFos of all time! You gotta respect the fact that he gave us all a tremendous amount of legendary performances and that he's had the balls to call it a day when other greats haven't been able to and then turn into Hollywood whores, who then just appear in whatever shit project that will get them paid.

U look at him and wish that all acting stars were like him. Grounded, humble, professional and dedicated and devoid of any incessant pursuit of cheap fame.
As long as he's hale and healthy then I'll happily see him off to his retirement. However, if it turns out that he or someone close to him is terminally ill and that's the reason for his impromptu retirement then the sadness I would experience would be quite immense because Daniel Day-Lewis IS the greatest living actor in the world and quite possibly the greatest actor that's ever been put to film IMO.
I love all of Lewis’s characters. He immerses himself into his titled role and is the best in the industry. He needs to be respected for being who he is and most importantly how professional he is. Thank you Mr Lewis for your passion in your roles and my all time favorite is Abraham Lincoln. Thank you sincerely. You are the best.

I sure hope he changes his mind and returns to acting. His role as Abraham Lincoln was simply phenomenal. I could even see him playing the role of the real Moses
the current scholarly consensus is also against the Jewish State of Israel, so i would hardly give them any credibility whatsoever. insulting JESUS is quite proper, since he was nothing but a fake phony fraud
@@mosescordovero5959 Have you heard the gospel of Jesus Christ before? God's holy word the Bible teaches us that we have all sinned, we have all done things our God given conscience tells us are wrong, that keep us from experiencing His holiness and goodness in our lives. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Sins such as using His name in vain, to use the name of the God who created us and gave us life, without respect or reverence, and worse, often with disrespect, jesting or even hatred. Exodus 20:7 “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” God is a just, holy and righteous God and in His love and goodness He must punish sin. If we are living sinful lives, breaking the ten commandments, and not acknowledging God in our hearts, God must punish us for our wickedness. God must send us to hell, a place of torment, weeping and gnashing of teeth, where all unrepentant sinners will go. Since we all have sinned, and fallen short, how can we be saved from this eternal place? Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” The good news, the gospel, is that God was born of a virgin, lived a perfect, sinless and holy life, as Jesus of Nazareth, and sacrificed Himself for our sins. He shed His blood and died on the cross and took upon Himself the wrath of the Father so that we might go free. After being crucified, he was buried in a tomb, and then as prophesied, resurrected by the power of God and defeated sin, death and hell. Whosoever believes in Him and follows Him will have eternal life! Forgiven of all sin, saved from death and hell and given a new heart to truly know Him. That is the mercy and love that Christ showed on the cross. He was perfect, yet died for imperfect people like us. Please take the time, you are not promised tomorrow, to read these next verses humbly and honestly and pray for God to forgive you of your sin and grant you His Holy Spirit and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. God bless you in Jesus' mighty name! Amen. Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 11:25-26 "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?"
Here's the short simple reason. Because Daniel acts because he loves to act, not for money. He would act in a movie and get so deeply involved in it and nail it 100% then he would take a break for a while. The movies that are coming out today are so bland and have no heart that he doesn't want to act these movies
I can imagine someday somehow Day-Lewis will see a role that he’s interested in and come out of retirement - we deserve an amazing movie with an amazing actor these days
Marilyn Dillard bullshit I love day Lewis and he is the best non American actor ever but you cannot say he is a better actor than de Niro you can't go onto any list of the best actors ever de Niro is always ranked above day Lewis and why is that? Oh because he's a better actor
His work as Daniel Plainview was one of the best on screen performances ever, and my personal favorite. I am so looking forward to Phantom Thread. Paul Thomas Anderson is my favorite Director and Day Lewis is my favorite actor so another collaboration between the 2 has me at a damn near fever pitch.
get over yourself, he's not a "celebrity", he's a professional actor, a thespian. He's not on instagram, I know that might be shocking to you that he doesn't post selfies on the internet. I know that's odd to you, Looper aka Buzzfeed Jr.
I am quite sad to see him go. He is definitely one of the best actors ever to have entertained us. I absolutely LOVE "Last of the Mohicans" where he played Nataniel Poe (Hawkeye) with an excellent cast, and especially the stunningly classically beautiful Madeleine Stowe. And the music (OMG)...that movie could only have been done with Daniel Day-Lewis. I seriously cannot imagine anybody else in that role. I will miss his totally immersive character work, and the outstanding results and achievements he has done for us to watch...and be amazed. At least I have the films on Blue-Ray! Thanks, DDL, and best wishes for what comes your way.
At least he knew when to get out, when his time was over for him personally. Not that he couldn’t have made more successful movies, no. However he had the insight to know that there was life beyond acting. So many get caught up in the vicious cycle of, the next job, the next job, that they can’t see anything beyond that. I think that’s a trap of sorts. It’s good to continue on doing something with your life, but when you feel that the thing you are involved in has run its course, and you need to do something else for normalcy sake, then it’s time to do that. It takes a strong person to have that epiphany, and act on it. No pun intended…
One of the greats and will surely be missed, however I wouldn't doubt it if he came back at some point once he's done unwinding and getting it out of his system, least I hope so
I wish more actors took on his philosophy. He manages to transform the movies he works on into works of art instead of just another movie. Robert Downey Jr should take note.
Walking away from the industry as potentially the greatest actor of all time and devoting to fine shoe making just adds to the intrigue and allure of his elusive persona. Can you imagine having a pair of shoes handmade by Daniel Day Lewis, btw?
He didn't quit, he takes long breaks from acting after almost every movie he does, I think because he becomes so enamored with the roles he takes on that at the end of filming he needs a good long time to settle back into himself before some other role comes across his lap that captures his interest. If you look back at his career Daniel Day Lewis has "quit" acting almost 8 times only to return in about a year. He can't stay away, he loves transforming himself but he's also a Hollywood elite who has a markedly different perspective on world issue than most of us normies. You get the sense from interviews that he's a very serious and dramatic man outside of his performances.
It’s so hard to remember that some celebrities aren’t really *celebrities*, per se. Some people just love their career and their chosen art form, and commit to it fully, but they don’t want the fame that can come with it. Daniel Day-Lewis was an unbelievably talented actor who did what good method actors do; commit themselves to a character fully and without restraint. I don’t blame him for wanting to step back. I obviously don’t know him personally, but he seems like the kind of person who craved a stage but not necessarily an audience, if you know what I mean.

Jeff from Jersey daniel day lewis and gary oldman are definitely the best alongside de niro and al pacino
GREATEST OF ALL TIME, Alongside with Marlon Brando
Brando was the Godfather of Method Acting. Best Actor ever.
Herc Zeus Brando literally is The Godfather
Yes. He raped audiences with his awesome portrayal of Vito Corleone.
+Rodrigo: Totally agree.
Absolutely!!
6 minutes of speculation
+Nathan Berry: Right, right, right! I instantly gave this fucking video a fat dislike!
I mean this is a trash channel with trash videos. Accept it or do the right thing and unsub
Yep. Done.
yep "real reason" my butt.
+Thomas Middleton: Guess what? I never subscribed...
Thank you.
Psst, he wasn't acting when he did these movies.
Sad but true, I wish he had had Daniel's dignity
You can. Just do it.
@John Doe deniro and marlon did whatever they thought was fun no insult to them
no way in hundred i would call them hollywood whores when i am not even half thier talent and work
He's made his money He's got the respect of his industry and is probably rediscovering who he is after playing so many others. Kudos to his wife and family for putting up with his eccentricities great body of work and definitely a credit to the actor profession.
U look at him and wish that all acting stars were like him. Grounded, humble, professional and dedicated and devoid of any incessant pursuit of cheap fame.
I love him, best actor in the world, got it all, AND integrity.
Liz Medina no he isn't the best actor in the world one of the best but not the best
Keep watching the pre code films here on youtube. You'll see some brilliant character actor work. Watch Luis Alberni in Easy Money.
DRAAAAAAINAGE!
Azrael I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!
did someone call me?
LMAOO
*SLURP* I DRINK IT UP!
IM THE THIRD REVELATION!!
He was a master of his art 👏
I love all of Lewis’s characters. He immerses himself into his titled role and is the best in the industry. He needs to be respected for being who he is and most importantly how professional he is. Thank you Mr Lewis for your passion in your roles and my all time favorite is Abraham Lincoln. Thank you sincerely. You are the best.
There's brilliance in the madness. Something many of us may never achieve......
Too right he's considered the best method actor of all time. Deniro was a serious contender back in the day (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, King of Comedy etc), but "I have a straw...." What a guy, and he finished on top!
Lincoln was awesome!
One of the best actors ever. Hollywood needs more like him. To bad there's plenty of morons.
Morons A.K.A. Jared Leto, Thimothy Chalamet. They have some talent and walk like gods thinking so high of themselves.
He gave his all to every performance for 3 decades! I think the man deserves to go out on his own accord. Live in peace DDL.
Daniel Day-Lewis is the Chuck Norris of acting he can do anything and it's just awesome
He's actually just getting into character for a Birdman Sequel
Underrated comment
wow
As plausible as his reasons are, do I hear echoes of Joaquin Phoenix?
Not even remotely close! Joaquin was doing way too much drugs when he said that.
So Adam Sandler and Amy Shumer keep making crappy movies and probably the best actor quits ........ dam you HOLLYWOOD
if every actor is great, they become lost in their own mire, you need tons of shitty actors and actresses to offset a few good ones, it makes the good ones seem even better in comparison :P I guess that's Adam Sandler's and Amy Schumer's respective roles in life :P
Random Guy ~ Ha 😆 😂 yeah❕Brings to mind Bill Hick’s great riff from the 80s - “We live in a time when John Lennon was MUR-DERED & yet Barry MANILOW CON-tinues to put albums out❕”
Correction: Bill Hicks’❔… Bill Hicks’s❔(obsessive 🙄😆)
Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems day hi imbecile
dudeeeee u can’t group sandler with amy schumer cmon sandlers had at least 4 great films schumer is a shitty comedian best known for the pop culture trashpit that is ‘trainwreck’
I. Drink. Your. MILKSHAKE!!!
Lucas M suuurrrrrpppp
DRAAAAAINAGE
*I DRINK IT UP!*
He should have got the Oscar for Bill the butcher. I'd have taken that over his role as Lincoln although I do believe his Lincoln performance did deserve the nod. But his performance as Bill was LEGENDARY
I sure hope he changes his mind and returns to acting. His role as Abraham Lincoln was simply phenomenal. I could even see him playing the role of the real Moses
Moses Cordovero What do you mean the real Moses?
I mean, the Moses of Ten Commandments fame
caseAgainstThinking1 is not real
the current scholarly consensus is also against the Jewish State of Israel, so i would hardly give them any credibility whatsoever. insulting JESUS is quite proper, since he was nothing but a fake phony fraud
@@mosescordovero5959 Have you heard the gospel of Jesus Christ before? God's holy word the Bible teaches us that we have all sinned, we have all done things our God given conscience tells us are wrong, that keep us from experiencing His holiness and goodness in our lives.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Sins such as using His name in vain, to use the name of the God who created us and gave us life, without respect or reverence, and worse, often with disrespect, jesting or even hatred.
Exodus 20:7 “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”
God is a just, holy and righteous God and in His love and goodness He must punish sin.
Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
The good news, the gospel, is that God was born of a virgin, lived a perfect, sinless and holy life, as Jesus of Nazareth, and sacrificed Himself for our sins. Amen.
Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 11:25-26 "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?"
Probably the most talented actor to ever exist
Here's the short simple reason. Because Daniel acts because he loves to act, not for money. He would act in a movie and get so deeply involved in it and nail it 100% then he would take a break for a while. The movies that are coming out today are so bland and have no heart that he doesn't want to act these movies
I can imagine someday somehow Day-Lewis will see a role that he’s interested in and come out of retirement - we deserve an amazing movie with an amazing actor these days
Daniel we love you, please DON'T quit acting, PLEASE reconsider
Daniel Day Lewis didn't want to see his career reduced to being like Robert 'I'll take the part' De Niro. Doing any stupid movie for a pay check.
Marilyn Dillard bullshit I love day Lewis and he is the best non American actor ever but you cannot say he is a better actor than de Niro you can't go onto any list of the best actors ever de Niro is always ranked above day Lewis and why is that? Oh because he's a better actor
dude u talk like youve accomplished anything u troll! deniro is one of the greats along with daniel day lewis!!!
The Flayed Man
I can think of nothing sadder than this man not exploring his natural talent.... perhaps the most talented actor I have ever seen.
If he is this committed and passionate he won’t be able to let go of acting. He will be back for sure.
Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the greatest actors period! He will go down with Marlon Brando as a top tier actor
The amount of work he put into his craft he’s well and truly earned his retirement just at a time where Hollywood is declining massively
wow this is crazy he is one of the greatest actors of all time
There’s a balance and a fine line. I’m glad he somehow managed to figure out how to not lose himself completely. I have so much respect for him 🙌🏾
He's given enough of himself. Be happy that he has given his best.
Such a unique and exceptional actor. One of the very few.
As beautiful as he is, he was the best in "A Room With a View."
We'll give him 5 years of cobbling and see if he doesn't get bored and change his mind for a role he can't refuse.
And when he returns he stars in a film with Gene Hackman and Sean Connery!! :D
FabledGentleman a huge comeback movie
Hell, ide buy a pair of his shoes
cat whatever Hollywood will make him an offer he won’t refuse
@@FabledGentleman Sean Connery :( R.I.P
Definitely deserved win for gangs of New York. Bill the Butcher character by Lewis was iconic. Greatest actor in history of cinema.
Oh he'll come back he's a real artist that itch won't ever go away.
DDL's performances can be summed up in one word: Excellence.
he has not quit acting he has a film that is due out at the end of this year and got more projects on the go.
He was born to be an actor, so he's now trying to live other aspects of life, which all he had was acting and acting.
Fare thee well, good sir!
His performance in Gangs of New York is the greatest I have ever seen. He stole the show.
The butcher was my favorite...what a performance and character...the raw emotions he portrayed!!
Take a bow Mr. Lewis..thank you and regards from Nepal!!
Wow I love a great actor the mystique makes the films all the more compelling, a true master of his craft.
the best actor of our time
Walking away from the industry as potentially the greatest actor of all time and devoting to fine shoe making just adds to the intrigue and allure of his elusive persona.
Can you imagine having a pair of shoes handmade by Daniel Day Lewis, btw?
Daniel Day-Lewis is the absolute best actor & I believe a great person.
U just can't stop loving his way of acting skills...and if u try...there will be blood
there will never be another Daniel Day Lewis
On the short list of the greatest actors ever.
I feel like i will see him in one more movie, where he will portray an African-American marine sergeant during the Vietnam war.
I never forget there will be blood the Eli character reminds me of joel olsteen and all televangelist pos.
DD LEWIS is just an eternal legend.
"I have a competition in me. i want no one else to succeed" - He succeeded in winning three awards :D
Did he say this?
@@petejames415 Yeah. In movie called "There will be blood"

Best Actor of our Time.. No one has even comes Close..... I truly miss this Huge Talent no longer being on the Big Screen... but we all wish him well.
Jeff from Jersey what do you classify as '' our time''
People alive today, actors still alive ... lots of great Actors are no longer with us .. unfortunately.. you can list your favorites , and we would probably agree on many.. Marlon Brando comes to mind .
