- This episode from my exploration of Copperbelt has it all - riding, attempt of camping and visit to the mine. One day out with the nature at Matanda Falls and second day I joined my local friends for a tour in Nchanga Mine in Chingola.

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don't know my final destination or the duration of this journey.
Throughout my journey, I was raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. Yes, I visited one in Clifton in 2012. Lots in Southern Arizona. Saw one in Bisbee too and one near Globe.
The Copperbelt is in Zambia, a long way from South Africa

You can take the girl on the road out of engineering but you cannot take the engineering bug out of the girl! That rock crusher was truly impressive.
Not to rain on your parade, but the largest open pit copper mine in the world is the Bingham Canyon mine in Utah. AKA Kennecott Copper. I have been to the observation point many times. On the way, one passes dump trucks big enough to carry a house. From the observation point those trucks look like toys. Still enjoy your videos. You are a cool young lady. If you ever find your way to Utah, check out Kennecott.

My hometown has a copper mine most years. It was mostly the little bit of gold that carried the copper activities sometimes.
I was in zambia last year for afew months and i was able to visit copperbelt but couldn't get to go to the mines... nice video. Much luv from 🇰🇪

Cool. I got see some of these trucks while waiting at lights in Nova Scotia. The dirt road crosses a gold mine.
Another deactivated one in Gaspe at a copper mine.

Hey you are where I grew up .My dad worked at that mine ...amazing .We used to go to the bowling club in Gingola .Are you going to kitwe ? We used to threw stones at crocs in the Kafue River! We was mad 😠

Good that you went to Chingola, Solwezi hotel & Mutanda lodge although I was disappointed with the state of the road at Mutanda & the gazebo. Thanks for showing us the mine open pit.
My bike had a similar lie-down a few years ago. I was buying a camping permit at a campground when I heard a ‘thud’. Looked outside, bike on its side. Finished paying (the bike wasn’t going anywhere!), then went out, unpacked and picked it up. Of course I took its photo first! The lady behind the counter said something like “Oh, yeah, we had the carpark gravel laid last week, it hasn’t been rolled yet”. Grrrr. After that I carried a flat piece of wood to put under the sidestand.

Love it! Mining is one activity that generates real wealth (as opposed to "recycling wealth" like bar tending, programming etc.). I think those large diesel-electric dump trucks carried 100 tons of ore each load.

That was fun and interesting to see the mine. The termites saved you. I carry a small plate of aluminum about the size of a playing card it goes under the side stand, or you could use a flattened beverage can. It takes up very little space saves you some trouble !
Yes, I think it was lucky you took a chalet. I had a chuckle then, when you resized you hard hat, and when you praised the gumboots. Pretty impressive crusher. Great video. Interesting to see copper mining in Zambia. Visited Copper Mountain Mine in BC Canada, and had the opportunity to go up on one of those Komatsu 830E haul trucks. They are huge, size of a house with wheels about 10ft tall. It's hard to appreciate the scale and size of everything on a small screen, but the size of those pits are awesome. Those huge trucks looks like toys when they crawl up the access roads inside.
I wonder if this has been mentioned before, but would be super-cool if #onherbike and #itchyboots got together for a dual vlog episode!! Totally my two favourite TH-cam motorcycling women... 😊👍🥰

Your bike sounds nice and bike-ish, Some of these small one lungers sound like the tire pump i plug into the Aux plug in my car... like sewing machine on steroids. Funny, I knew it was going to fall over in the sift grass. Shit happens. Great looking country. Ants And Crocodiles. Yikes.
Great falls. In my day the copper in a standard lamp cord was way thicker than copper wire is now. Because there was so much copper then and mining and refining costs were so much less. Such an interesting episode.
