Appreciate the good information little rusty it's been a long time since I've been checked and my battery terminals are not covered but they are now really appreciate the video thanks
Great info, makes the day go better if you take the time to do things the right way, Be safe and stay positive. From someone who lives in Illinois. And you can always call the DNR they like the question.
i remember one year me and my boy was fishing at cedar in the very back and a us fish and wildlife officer checked us ....funny thing is he had 2 females in the front both wearing sports bars that was filled out pretty nice ....🧐.....and me with my sarcasm.....said so what’s up with your lady friends in the boat ....he said they was interns for a criminal justice program at a local college ....i told him , that’s what i would say too ....told me to have a good day and they left laughing ......little humor always helps ...!!!!
I was at Governor Bond Lake in Greenville IL and the local PD checked my lake permit and I got stopped by the conservation both in the same day. Everything was good they were cool. I had everything they asked for. Now I did not have my paper copy of my fishing license but I did have a picture of it on my tablet. It's always good to have a picture of your license on your phone.
They are a great group of folks, and even when I've seen them giving out citations, they are very courteous and professional. Follow the rules, and there won't be a problem with them.
Great tips on reminding others on these important items and laws! So many new boat owners out there that don't even know 20% of this stuff because they never look at the boating regulations for their state. Also great tip on checking regulations for the state you travel to as they are all different in some ways like you said. My last boat was a 1436 and I was shocked that in WI you also don't need a throwable PFD unless it's 16 feet or bigger, which I also believe any boat should have no matter the size. As always, great video man!
Good info Gabe. Always good to have a refresher course. I had my son take the boater safety course last summer. Never know when I might need him to operate the boat and get me back to shore.
Man and all this time i have been fishing feeling no concern whatsoever if i get checked while missing so many things including the 4 batteries in the boat not having terminal covers. Thanks for sharing. I live in GA.
@@TheTinHorseMonty after your vid I stated doing just that. I enjoy your videos man. I consider myself a true follower. I been a subscriber since day one I think 😁
Are the requirements the same in a "NONE" motorized kayak? Life jackets are always necessary, but what else would a kayaker need? FYI: love the video's... thanks!
This was at cedar? Good to see them guys patrolling. Pretty frustrating to set up your whole tiny boat around 9.9 lakes and some dbag flys by with a 35hp
Thanks Gabe, I was hip to everything except the mandatory wearing of l.j. and lanyard while running. I was happy you confirmed what I thought were the regs plus adding one to my list re jacket and lanyard. Very helpful video, thanks for doing it. Btw, I've had same experience as you regarding the officers' general demeanor.
Glad to see them patrolling more in Illinois now. I got stopped at Peabody River King a few months back and asked all the same questions as well. The only thing that he had mentioned for me to fix was 1 of my battery posts weren't covered. Good video on being legal while fishing.
I had my father in law with me at Rend a few years back, and the CP watched us putting the boat on the trailer. Soon as we pull it out, they came and did a safety inspection and fish check. They don't miss anything, like you show here, everyone needs to follow the laws, or pay the fines. I didn't realize you HAD to have a PFD and kill switch on when running the with the big engine during fun fishing, etc, as I thought that was only during tournaments. Although I alway have mine on for safety sake. Do you know if that is a rule for passengers as well?
I'm not 100% sure Ryan. Been a while since I did this video. I remember reading the laws at that time n I think all passengers must have a PFD on when the big motor is running.
I could not find the regulation from Missouri or Illinois that requires you to wear a life jacket and have kill switch attached while operating a boat, only personal watercraft, could you please check that as it’s very good advice, but a lot of us are guilty of not wearing the life jacket unless in a tournament

Thanks Joey. I really don't know but I'm leaning towards different rules. I doubt a fire extinguisher or throw cushion is required.
Good content. I would imagine the horn on the boat would be your sounding device?
Thanks Phil. An air horn is fine too.
Was checked last week and all he wanted to see was a life jacket and a throwable
