    Emily and Amanda you did a great detail for the boat on safety . I went just one step farther. I got 2 green laser light pen. It will reach 5 miles. Back in 1977 I was a shrimper and broke down. Electronic went out. If I had a green lasers back then. We could have got rescue faster from coast guard. So from that day on. I took safety a extra step farther. Now I have never experienced that again, but it taught me a good lesson.

      @DHKEYWEST1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not regular green lasers. They make a legal laser that you can point at aircraft. If you use regular laser you will
      Go to jail.

      @@DHKEYWEST1 not if it's for SOS. I work with law enforcement. yes!! if you don't have a emergency. then you can go jail.

      @Dan Lowery Greatland laser has a wide beam light and not a pinpoint beam that will
      Burn your retina. The green model can reach out 20 miles at night.

    One suggestion. You may want to keep gloves with your flares because if you have to use flares, when it burns, it is dripping molten slag. Person holding flare might hurt hands and even drop it.

    It is recommended that when checking for USCG approval on the PFD that you should make sure it is worded USCG or US Coast Guard approved and not "meets Coast Guard requirements". If it is actually approved by the USCG it will have an approval number following the statement that begins with 160.???.??? Another fact is that if the personal flotation device (PFD/life jacket) isn't in good shape it isn't counted as having it on board. That would be torn material, missing straps or buckles, knots in the straps or ties, mold or mildew, or water logged. Water logging would probably only apply to the old K pock type PFD's which I don't believe has been produced for many years.

  • @Fishing-fanatic
    @Fishing-fanatic ปีที่แล้ว

    A have a dry bag with all of my personal must haves and it goes with me on every boat that I go on. I think the most important part of carrying my dry bag of equipment is that it also acts as a rapid ditch bag. No matter what boat I’m on, if I have to evacuate, I will have all of my safety gear with me. I also keep everything that they mentioned onboard all of my boats and never remove it from the boat as long as it is in the water. This ensures that I always have everything that I need.

    Great Video! Thanks for the great call outs to the official publications of both State and Federal requirements. CA regs state that 13 and under need to be wearing the life jacket if up on deck. Florida is 6 years and under. USCG Vessel Examiner here. Note new "kill switch" ("ECOS") Federal requirements for NEW "powered" boats under a certain length (26 feet).

    The old debate about life jackets. I’ve rescued a few unconscious people who were wearing a life jacket and they survived. Those who are unconscious without a life jacket are called a recovery and not a rescue.

    Great information on the broad-spectrum, but some states don’t require numbering on the outside of vessels that are registered with the US Coast Guard. I live in Missouri, and we only have to have the registered vessel’s name and port on the back, we are not issued actual registration numbers.

    I always give a safety meeting before i left the dock. Most of the time it went like this.
    If the boat starts to sink put on your lifejacket and swim away from the boat.
    If yhe boat catches fire put on your life jacket and swim away from the boat.
    Stay seated at all times and keep your arms and legs in the boat.

    Those life jackets make you legal, but not what you want fishing offshore. You want offshore life jackets. Also if you do not want sharks bitting you, you need a life RAFT too big enough to handle everybody on-board. Sea anchor is a must in rough sea. People have used 2 on stern cleats getting your boat into cuts when it is really rough to keep from breaching and rolling over.

    I have a question. Are life jackets dated with a use by date? Are there other safety items that should be replaced for the same reason?

  • @ervingricnik2470
    @ervingricnik2470 ปีที่แล้ว

    What are the differences between the new invincible and the previous mono-engine boat? The one in which you showed how you park. How far offshore can you go with the new one and how far the previous could follow? You know to still be considered safe. What is the difference in the ride? Is there a magic length of the boat that could do all the tasks from both boats? Or is it more like the bigger is better in boating? When is it more appropriate to have a twin engine than a single one? When you drive fast are there any situations when making sharp turns is dangerous? You know... is it possible to capsize the boat that way?

    Oh yeah.....be serious.......a decent size green laser pen when pointed at someone briefly, even in low light, gets attention. Just don't blind an aircrew, but get their attention with quick flash, then point if offset. Can be seen for 5-10 miles. I clip my PLB to my PFD on shoulder clip....along with flare/smoke, small air horn, whistle and mirror! Maybe a bit too much, but I've flown rescue missions where all those were used and played an important factor. 'Dress for Egress' is a good mantra.....If you don't have it with you when you go overboard, you'll never have it!!!
    Military aircrews have a survival vest (water, sunscreen, green dye, small raft, LED flashlight with strobe, dry pouch with cell phone, small GPS....doesn't do any good to say you're floating somewhere having drifted.....without any coordinates.) or attach a dry bag with a short lanyard. The 'FLOAT PLAN' comment is a great thing also. You girls are fun to watch and have great videos! Keep em coming!
