You are killing it with all these classic rock songs. Boston is legit!!! First album written over 5 years in Tom’s basement while he worked to find his dream. Came out the gate BLAZING!!! Singer is FIRE!!!
Its SO refreshing to see you kids hearing Boston for the first time, and have the SAME reaction we old fogies had in 1976. And your smile is infectuous! Great review! Now, go listen to "Dont Look Back." Peace out!
I think its epic that a young man of color is goovin on a 70's masterpiece. I was 14 yrs old when this came out and IT was great this and drive in movie theatres : )) YEAH!!!!!!
Music from 1976, when I was in 9th grade. At the time Boston's first album was fire. The mid seventies, to me are a creative high mark for excellence and innovation in rock music.

I LOVE watching you react to the music I love! I have just as much fun as you did when I listen to this one! All Boston is excellent but this one is my favorite. Peace of Mind , Rock n Roll Band, and Smokin,-check them out if you haven’t. Rock On!
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see you enjoying Boston!! I was in 9th grade when their first album came out. Total game-changer. Their first album was a number one best-selling debut album for many years. I'd "go cruisin': in my '69 Cougar, just blasting all their tunes as loud as I could crank it up. So many songs yet to explore!!
Brad Delp is IMO the most underrated vocalist in rock music. Yes he get his props - but not to the level he deserves. And if I could meet one person in history? it crosses my mind, at least, for it to be BD. I'd like for him to help me/us understand why he took his own life.
I’m an old lady now, but I loved Boston. Brad Delp, the singer, committed suicide in 2007. His band members were suing one another, and it depressed him. He was about the music, not the money. By the way, you’re one handsome guy!
This is 'Arena Rock' at it's finest! Boston is simply amazing! - musically (arrangement), lyrically, and of course vocally (Brad Delp - RIP)! Great reaction!
I am from Boston and singer Brad Delp had a Beatles tribute band on the side called Beatlejuice. They played Bi monthly right down my Street. Nicest most genuine cat you could meet. Sadly and oddly he took his own life about a decade ago.
Last Saturday, I went to the New England Music Hall Of Fame Awards and Barry Goudreau and Brad Delp's children accepted his award. I was able to speak to them as all of us stragglers waited for our cars out front. I sas Barry Goudreas band when they opened for Hollywood Vampires recently. Sounded just like Brad (I believe it was a woman singing). It was just like seeing Boston. She sang so well, not copying Brad, more honoring him.
My 7yearold grandson asked what the cd player in the car was this 60yr grandma starts him off with Boston! Well I am a bostonian that kid yells turn it up OK lil Florida's boy... Just loved your reaction!
Boston was smokin' in concert. I saw them in the fall of '78 with Sammy Hagar as the warm-up act. Speaking of "Smokin'", that's another one of their songs you should check out in addition to "Rock 'N Roll Band" which was their opening number and tells the story of the band on their way to a record deal.
Boston is best known for this amazing debut album, but really everything Tom Sholtz did is pure gold. I wish more reactors would explore Third Stage and Walk On. Side note; all Boston is best experienced in album-sized portions. The whole is DEFINITELY better than the sum of the parts.
Keep going with Boston. They are fantastic. This one is made for playing in your car as you’re blasting down the highway with the wind blowing in your hair and the windows open.
OMG this took me way back to my 16th birthday!!!! I had a date with a new guy and we and his friends went to the country to have our outdoor partays. The smokin and tokin got the mood right for this band. It was a great time for me that whenever I hear Boston, it takes me right back there. Thank you for this reaction and even more thank you for how you loved this song. Check out their first album. You will not be disappointed. In particular listen to "Smokin" "Rock and Roll Band" "Dont look back". Awesome music to hear my friend.
One of my personal favs by Boston, also off this album, is Hitch A Ride. More of a melancholy song but the guitar alone is amazing. Def recommend listening to the whole album tho, every songs a banger and you'd prolly recognize a few
Loved your reaction! And also your smiles, which show how much you like this song! Thank you. "More Than a Feeling", "Peace of Mind", "Hitch a Ride", and "Smokin'" are a few. Deep dive on them is a gift! Lol.
This whole album is an instant classic. Their last three albums took almost an average of ten years each to finish. Just think of how many more albums they could’ve produced in that time frame if they were any other successful band that didn’t fixate on how every single note by every musician in the band sounded?
This song inspired me when I was graduating from high school, and there was a girl I had a crush on, but we never got together and I was ready to forget her and move on. So I wrote a good bye letter and inspired by this song--"Ill try to forget your name, and leave it all behind me". And we never saw each other again. But I missed her and thought about her and this song often
Tom Scholz, the guitarists/organists/bassist/genius, recorded what would be the debut album in his basement studio. the album is nothing than a reengineering of the demos. all vocals (including the background singing) is done by one man, Brad Delp (he left us far too soon committing suicide 2007). The band has released a total of 6 studio albums. Boston Don't Look Back Third Stage Walk On Corporate America Life Love and Hope
You obviously have not listened to the demo that was submitted to Epic and producer John Boylan. The demo did not contain all 8 songs or nine if you count Foreplay and Long Time as separate cuts on the record. All of the tracks were redone by Tom at Boylan's directive. Not one track from the demo made it to the record. The arrangements and vocal harmonies changed slightly and the songs are more polished as a result.
On point as usual! Boston's greatest song ever though, A man ill never be, live will blow your damn mind! Ok Skeez on another subject. On my life if you check these guys out they may very well become your favorite band. This 3 piece band from Missouri blend gospel, soul, funk, and rock like no one since the Atomic Dog, Maestro Clinton. Kings X - Music over my head will change the way you look at every other band after and wonder, why can't they all be like Kings X? Please check them out!!!
I just had a clear memory of myself...16 years old, drivin my car with the sunroof open, with long hair down, parted in the middle, half of it flying out the window, warm summer day cruisin, and this playing on my 8-Track player...TURNT UP!!! CLASSIC ALBUM CLASSIC MEMORIES for this 61 year old chick...LOL
Found you because of your latest Boston reaction - new sub... I have been debating myself lately on if this DEBUT album by Boston is the greatest "Debut" album ever - some say period but this album is 9 songs of bangers out of 9 songs and a 10 outta 10 on the Rockn scale!
Do some research into Boston, the band existed before there were members. One guy practically playing all the instruments, mixing & remixing to create the sound with a friend doing vocals.
There sure is a great deal of Boston urban legend BS due to how selective Tom has been in telling whole story and key facts of the narrative of how this record came to be. The band was called Mothers Milk up until midway in the recording and mixin process. At the suggestion of producer John Boylan and at the suggestion of Warren Dewey, they changed the name of the band/project to Boston. Barry introduced Brad to Tom back in 69/70 and Barry, Brad and Tom played what would become the songs as we hear them on the record for years in area bands. Brad sang on the demos that were given to Epic and to producer John Boylan, and the record execs signed Brad to the same deal that Tom had. Brad also helped out with the arrangements of these songs. Tom often leaves out the contributions of Jim Masdea as well. All of Brads vocals were recorded at Capital Studios Studio C by producer John Boylan. Barry plays guitars on three songs. Fran plays bass on one song. Brad plays 12 string acoustic on one song. Let Me Take You Home was recorded in its entirety by John Boylan at The Record Plant LA studios. This record was mixed at Westlake Studios by Boylan, engineer Warren Dewey and Tom.
