Seen them live 3 times. Ya he was awesome live. They all were. He's just VERY underrated. The whole band is actually. They were ahead of their time back in 76 and I'll keep saying it. Funny it's taking until now for people to finally appreciate how good they were. If not for their stupid lawsuits and 10 year hiatus I think things would have been different. Just my opinion.

Were you from Boston-What a time Aerosmith-played at intermediate studios with Chc Corea, Larry Bird, Bostons World series appearance in a long time lost 1k watching the ball go underneath Buckner’s legs. The coach wanted to take him out I was their on first base line in NY with the son of Milton Bradley VP Chris Getney we were musicians and salesman and he loved me because I was the best but Buckner told the coach to leave him in so he could celebrate. They wanted to put in another player, younger, defensive player. So it was not Buckners fault completely the coach should of been more aggressive. I shit my pants when that ball went under his legs. But back to the time a great time to live in Boston-they just got Bledsoe with a ridiculous contract. Someone working for us found Lawrence Taylor rookie weekly pay check stub 22k he ended up getting ten times that much but we also know a mechanic who was working. on a car and found paycheck stubs in his glove compartment but found one check for over a hundred grand old and not cashed, forgot all about it he was getting paid so much-we knew then he was a burnout! The girls were hotter than people say. Got two sister who lured me into me bedroom during a party -the younger one said my sister is sick can you check on her went up tapped her on in her shoulder and she turned around and grabbed me and the they just took me to the moon asking me what I wanted. A week earlier the second oldest one I was giving a ride home and she said you know my girlfriend and mother slept with her boyfriend and she asked what do you think about that-I said what a lucky guy! She was feeling me out At the party I had a half pound of gold columbia pot in a bowl People were helping them selves but they were respectful nobody grabbed a pocket full- after being upstairs I got my boss who was with the oldest sister and I grabbed him while the oldest sister was sleeping and said come on we went upstairs and about 5 minutes later the sister they were Italian knocked down my door and she started yelling you two did it again and was attacking us and a friend grabbed a chair and held her off. They were naked I still had my underwear The next day she locked herself in a van and it was like 90 % so we called the police who called the emt and took her to the psych hospital but in telling you that was just one instance the younger girl was a freak Beautiful she would bring her friends over and we would just go off-a incredible life I had working for that company making thousands and was only 20yrs old.Met Walter Payton-Bernie Kosar who was playing the Bears but was playing golf in front of him and his 300lbs line man. Excuse the biography but if your from Boston All I can say is it rocked-southie, not mafia dudes, got robbed with automatic weapons and the guy took my vehicle and equipment but gave me a bad off killer pot! Crazy times! Fenway, Yazd was still playing. But the music talent was incredible, Boston Aerosmith, Stanley Clark DiMeola. And making money 1-1509 week 1980 20 yrs old. Went back it was a complete awesome city. All the city streets were underground. 👍

"I've got to keep on chasing that dream, though I may never find it. I'm always just behind it......." BTW, every song on Boston's debut album is at least as good as "More Than a Feeling" and "Foreplay/Long Time". One of the rare albums which has no clunkers on it. On a different note, there is another band from Boston who had a legendary debut album called "The Cars". Boston's debut was released in 1976. The Cars debut was released in 1979.

This is my other favorite Boston song. "Foreplay/Longtime" is more focused on Tom's awesome guitar and keyboards, while "More Than a Feeling" is mostly about Delp"s impossible vocals. Drums are great on both songs. For me, "Feeling" is more nostalgic and enjoyable, while "Foreplay" transports me in a sonic experience. Boston has a lot of other great songs too. Were all going to enjoy this musical journey! Still waiting for more reactions to The Who, and Cream. But I'll enjoy these regular dips into Boston.

@jraben1065 The electric rhythm guitars on Foreplay and Long Time are played by Barry not Tom. Bary also plays the lead solo on Long Time. This is documented in the liner notes of the post litigation 2006 Scholz remaster of the Boston debut record. You will never find a video of playing the solo to Long Time because that was Barry's work. Tom now has Gary Phil play the solo

@@justme2 While Tom did everything in his basement, he realized he needed a drummer. I forget the guy's name at the moment, but fortunately Boston got a great drummer! And Tom was also going to do all the vocals himself, but then realized that Delp was the man. Tom and Delp worked together, creating those complex vocal tracks. It's worth hearing Delp's vocals on an "isolated track" video on TH-cam. Tom created so much complex music, overlapping multiple music tracks, and he also innovated the recording technology in a big way. And Tom is a great bass player by the way.

We had no internet, radio was limited, buying records was not always easy for a young person. 2023 It's still Brilliant! I appreciate your love for this, there is not a weak song on the first record. The whole band is excellent. More Boston recommendations: "Peace Of Mind", "Smokin". Thank you

I saw Boston live 3 times in 4 weeks back in the 1970s. (And 3 more times in the last 10 years) They are a studio band but they really lose nothing live. In fact during the transition from Foreplay to Longtime, they had a huge and I MEAN HUGE organ, RISE from the back of the stage. I'm sure it was just a prop, but man what an effect it had on the experience. To watch it slowly rise as the organ played by Tom was just amazing. I consider it the greatest moment of my concert life and I've been to over 100 concerts. (Styx, Foreigner, ELO, The Moody Blues, Pat Benetar, Cindy Lauper, Cars, Blondie, Rod Stewart, Scandal, Stryper, Billy Idol, ZZ Top, and so many more.) More Than A Feeling is my favorite because of the Lyrics, but Smokin and Foreplay/Longtime, The Man I'll Never Be, Rock And Roll Band, Don't Look Back... really you can pick any song from the first 2 albums... you will not be disappointed. As for Yes, Owner of a Lonely Heart and Leave It I think are their best, but they do have a lot to choose from.

Not an exaggeration - there is not a bad song on this entire album; every song was a hit. Pretty much unheard of - and this was their out of the gate debut album! Go listen to the whole album. You can throw it in there cover to cover and rock out the whole time, and then play it again.
I wore out 3 cassette tapes of this album having listened to it that many times. This was the type of music that would blare from the garage when my dad was working on cars. I grew up on this stuff!
More Boston: Peace of Mind, Smokin, Don't Look Back, Rock and Roll Band, Satisfied, Party

Brad had an amazing voice. So sad that such a talented young man could take his own life. Boston blew my mind in the 70's and they're still one of the best bands of all time. The story behind their debut album is a legend maker on its own.

Peace of Mind would be next if going in somewhat order.
    Side One:
    1. More Than A Feeling
    2. Peace Of Mind
    3. Foreplay/Long Time
    Side Two:
    1. Rock & Roll Band
    2. Smokin'
    3. Hitch A Ride
    4. Something About You
    5. Let Me Take You Home Tonight

Great reaction and thanks for sharing. This album every song is great. Some songs are exceptional. Side one is one banger after another. Listen to 'Peace of Mind' next. Then start on side two. Tom Scholz wrote the songs, composed the songs, was the engineer and recorded the songs, edited the songs and played every instrument except drums on most of the songs. That includes classic guitar, 12 string guitar, lead electric guitar, rhythm electric guitar, bass guitar and organ. Brad sang lead vocals, backup vocals and harmonies. All the voices you hear on this album are Brad Delp. This song and album were recorded in Tom's basement using used, made and invented equipment. Yes, Tom is also an engineer and invented the 'Rock Pedal' system used by every single guitar/bass player in the world now. The little boxes you see guitars plugged into before the amplifiers. This allowed Tom to selectively change the tone of the guitars without switching guitars. It also allowed no other band to cover or copy their music as the settings Tom used he did not share with the general public even after releasing the pedal system for general sale. Enjoy more Boston. Chris

What I love about music out of the 70's & early 80's is that it gives us that 'Hey! Look Ma! No hands!' feel! 😄 All before vocals that used 'Auto-Tune' like a crutch... in fact... before 'Auto-Tune' was invented. You know... back when you had to have talent, artistic vision and mastery of your instrument, whether that instrument was their voice, guitar, drums or keys! Yeah... I spent my teens into my twenties during that era.😏 Give you some songs? Dire Straits, their entire 1st album and drown in the guitar mastery of Mark Knopfler. Pick a cut, or better yet, react to them all.

Tom Sholtz ( the bass player ) is an electric genius . He designed and built all the bands guitar amps and effects systems , then patented them. Their sound is pretty much impossable with any other amp brand or effects system to sound like Boston . The album this song is off of is one of the best if not the best debut album ever, I remember well when it came out and everyone went wild when the first song made it to radio. Even after almost 50 years to me it is still a REQUIRED album for my music collection

    • @neechee5150

Tom is the keyboard player, guitar player and bass player for most of the songs on this record. Tom did not design and build the Marshall and Ampeg amps used to record this record. There is no Rockman or Rockman prototype on this record. This was all old school tube amps and in the case of guitars Marshalls driven until the power tubes started distorting and compressing.

Brad Delp, RIP was an amazing singer!! Incredible range and vocal control. Listen to "A Man I'll Never Be" to really hear Brad. Another fun fact of Boston, the leader, Tom Scholz was a graduate of MIT. He invented the Rockman, basically a guitar amp in the form factor of the old Walkman. (for Yes; "Roundabout", "I've Seen All Good People" or "Owner of a Lonely Heart".)

Set the stage. Circa fall of 76. I just moved back to play football at Washburn University in Topeka from Independence Junior college. Kansas was my band. A FM station from KC would play new releases domestic/ foreign at midnight. I would sit home in the right frame of mind and listen to music that no one else had heard. They played Boston. Omg I had to have that album. I had to drive to KC to buy it. I brought it back to Topeka and recorded it on cassette. Driving around in my 69 VW and blaupunkt stereo it rocked. I couldn't listen to them enough. (Along with styks, equinox/fire and ice). I would bring it into the locker room, getting ready for practice and be playing it. I remember a brother passing by with an interested note ' Who is that?' another teammate had a stereo system that could play it so loud you couldn't hear someone talking next to you. Your reaction was the same as mine first time hearing. The quality of their guitar work and vocals were awesome. Reading the album cover these were engineers who created what they loved, music. It took multiple years for this first album. Brad's voice was not destined for concert venues. Being homebread in Topeka, I am a die hard early Kansas fan. Their songwriting / violin/ guitar and drumming is unmatched in early progressive rock. I come from the same high school and watched them play in the amphitheater/ auditorium. Check out those gentlemen that had no use of computers , but employed their mastery of multiple instruments. I'm rambling just my 2¢.
