@@neillenet291 But those are also 40'ish+ years old too.
The question was what songs made in 2024, even back 10 years, will people still hear played over the airwaves 43 years from today?
I'm with ya on those you listed. I could quickly add a dozen more. But they would all be pre-1990 songs.
And I do enjoy "SO" of the new stuff. But there will never be another period where first album releases from groups like Boston, Journey, Styx, and Foreigner happens. And could enjoyed first song to last song like those four.
Definitely add Pink Floyd, AC/DC, KISS, Meatloaf, Guns n Roses, Led Zeppelin for complete album Ear Candy...and still others.
Those 70s and 80s classic rock bands....just impossible to forget. And damned near impossible to beat.

I had a discussion the other day that in 50 or 100 years People will still know about and listen to the bands I mentioned, But no one will remember the vapid Pop being produced now. My first car was the familys old 1972 Dodge Polara 4 door....I bondoed the rust spots on it, sanded it down, had Earl Scheibs paint it from ugly assed Brown to Light Blue ($79.99) and put Craiger rims on it.....THEN I picked up the car, drove it home and my parents were waiting for me with my early Christmas present, a Clarion cassette player under dash and 4 Kraco speakers.....OMG!!! (My Parents were sorry they said I could get it. lol).
Also ubiquitous, in our cars and trucks, were Craig Powerplays, with Jensons on the side. When cassette tapes came out, a lot of us had to build brackets so we could keep our 8-tracks AND mount the new cassette players too, along with switching so we could feed the speakers from either source. lol.

Yet ANOTHER reason why you hear Gen X'ers say that our music was the best...Boston,Eagles,Poison,Van Halen,Twisted Sister,AC/DC,Journey,Guns-N-Roses,Skynyrd,Queen, Seger, the list could go on and on...and as you've heard numerous times, our generations music was raw, pure, from the heart,no extra equipment used to make the sound better...it was just talented musicians that loved what they did...as you've discovered throughout your journey of listening/reacting to music from this era...I know I've said it a couple of times, but THANK YOU! You listen to the music we grew up listening to,fell in love with, and sometimes perhaps got through many rough days listening to...and EVERY SINGLE TIME you listen to it,you are blown away by the vocals, the instrumentals, lyrics, you embody the whole experience and give us old timers a jog back to our youth, but you also show SO MUCH appreciation for what our music was, what it meant to us,you understand the beauty behind each and every song,be it pop, rock, ballads, south rock,country...and for that,I feel like I MIGHT could speak for all/some of your listeners when I say yet again...THANK YOU for bringing back memories, while also bringing our music to life for other generations to experience...

True, except it's not so rare. They sold so many of the debut album that it was the best selling debut album in history at the time, and I think it's still the 2nd best selling debut album to this day. It has sold at least 17 million copies in the United States alone and at least 20 million worldwide. I still have mine 🙂.

@@grand73am How far did you get on my comment before you decided to leave a reply?, I didn't think it was THAT long. I didn't mean the album itself was rare, I meant that it's rare for a DEBUT album to have every song on it a hit, you know, like this one? If you'd read my comment correctly, you'd seen that. Oh, By the way, I also have a copy of the album and a couple of others by them. Thanks for the bonus info I didn't ask for.

in 1976 there was a very real yet subconscious fear that "Rock music" was in its last days. Disco was everywhere and all of the well known rock bands were... lets face it, not kids any more. You have to realize, gray haired rockers didnt exist yet and there was a real feeling that maybe after being a great run the fun was over... Now I'm not hear to say Boston fixed all that, but when this album hit the shelves it sold some ridiculous number of records (17M+?) for a band no one had ever heard of, and a style of Rock no one had ever heard. It jolted the rock world and gave it the oxygen it desperately needed. Rockers everywhere owe a debt of gratitude to this album. And if you read the story behind it and the band it makes the story even more miraculous. 48 years on and it still gives me chills, one of those songs that when it comes on the radio to this day, my lady and I both reach for the volume knob to CRANK IT UP 🤪

When you were describing the Artwork...I was waiting. Will He See It? Nope! LoL!!
So the "Ships" that the "Cities" are sitting atop are Guitars!! Look just to the left of that "R" and you can see the neck and headstock, is it a 4 string Bass with a 3-1 head or a 6 string headstock?? So many things about that Album cover were just so Amazing!!
Boston was my favorite group from when I first heard them in 1978 until 2013!! They will always be one of the Best Bands I Know!!
Oh, Babymetal is my current #1...Sorry Boston, but I still Love you guys!!
As to the impact Boston had on Rock Music back in the day...This Album became the #1 most sold Debut Album (9yrs) until the G&R debut and is still #8 of all time. But through the 80's and 90's, and even into the 2000's, there was not a single Rock Radio Station in the US that did not have Boston in Rotation...especially during their Drive Time/Rush Hour lineups!! They were the 'Go To' sound of a generation!

Takes my back to running around in my little hometown with my best friend, I started out driving my Daddy’s ton Dodge work truck till I got my 1984 Jeep CJ 7 Renegade, loved going to the Friday night football games and Saturday basketball games! The ships are actually upside down guitars, though with only 4 strings they would be bass guitars. Album art was one of the greatest things about records that got lost when ported to CDs because they are so small. It is incredible that Boston's debut album was such a force and still considered one of the greatest debut albums ever released. The album is incredible from start to finish. The band is as talented as they come. Music was so incredible back then. Whole albums were great, not just one-off songs that were throw away like they are today. Bands had to be talented, had to play well live and had to perform live all of the time in support of their music. Concert tickets were cheap and albums were like gold. We looked at the covers for hours sitting on the floor, reading the liner notes and lyrics listening to the entire album, maybe even smoking a joint while we were at (wink).
You got it, Foreplay is basically the build up introduction at the beginning before the song. The spaceships are actually guitars.
