@@TomleyRC I didn’t have Xmods kit either growing up, but had gotten a kit for my son, just as they were phazing them out. They were pretty cool, but to get upgrade kits equal to what you get in this HeX kit, I would’ve had to spend so much more money.
@@BangForYourBuckRc I had the blue Honda Civic variant from back in the day. I was 12 and my dad got my brother the RSX for our birthday from Radio Shack. While they were not hobby-grade per se, they had tons of customization and brought me into the hobby. Great times.
My 13 year old loves RCS and building them. Finishing up a Tamiya Super Hot Shot right now. Looks like an awesome Christmas gift to get us through the 5 months of winter! And he has played with Hex bugs so this works great. Thank you!
this actually shows why my preference of car for race is not a short car, but neither too long, and preference of control and steering over speed. goes for RC, irl and videogame cars alike.
Definitely a rebirth of the X-mod. Definitely like the tunability/customization options. Still, for just a little more money I would probably pick the Carisma GT24 Subaru over this... with the 8000kv brushless motor and 2s lipo that comes stock, those things scream!
That's exactly what I was thinking. I still got my mustang and acura rsx models. I bring them out once in a while for nestolgia sake, wish they had a lipo battery though. They eat aaa batteries for breakfast, lol
Man I had some fun with that car, I had the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo with lights and stuff. That a little while ago haha, I think it was around 2000's. Hopefully we can buy this in Europe because I want one!
Very cool. Most of the fun I have with RC centers around building them. With the trend going more towards the RTR side of things, its good to see a builders kit still available for kids to get started with. Two thumbs up. Good to here about the collaboration your doing with the other guys. Can't wait to see your vid. You already got Matt beat, his speed limit is determined by how close the nearest curb is. Hah. Be well, and have fun. 😀
Very cool Mini Racers! When I was in this age category we only had mini slot cars. There was a massive wooden track in town. We rode our bikes there to test our slots against the rest of the town’s early tweekers! Great memories 😊 This kit is wonderful for the new age of tweekers! Thanks for the rekindled memories.
To test against the rest of the towns early tweakers?? Lmao You kind of outed yourself there......... It’s cool when my buddies and I were teenagers we’d sniff speed and go skate. Oh the great times!
@@rambomacleod2927 i think you are the one who outed their self. He was referring to tweaking his slot cars, tuning them and upgrading them. He wasn't referring to tweaking on speed like you and your buddies use to do apparently.
I like this video a lot, something about your accent, smooth tone and the fact that I love R/C's and I'm just in ahhh about these cars. Never thought an R/C could be changed so easy, even as a kid you could do it. I just had one with 4 body pins and interchangeable bodysuits, this has everything!
One of the few times I'd rather enjoy watching a video on an RC car then actually drive it. Looks like fun building it, but I cannot justify the price here in AUS. Very well done video, I liked how you changed the parts while keeping the car in the same spot.
What an awesome toy! When you introduced this I was worried it might just be a case of great idea but with poor execution and then seeing how the red car drove to begin with I was thinking it was a fail. However the 4WD conversion made all the difference. I want to be a kid again so I can open the big set on Christmas Day 😂 The tuneability is really what would excite me the most although it is also important the car is fun to drive.
Parents take note: garden hose is a cheap and fun way to make a track. And if you have pets it's a good idea to vacuum before running the cars on carpet because pet hair can bind the wheels and burn up the motor.
Yeah I’m sure I had something like this in the 90s…maybe not RC though? The def had tires and motors and shit but might have been for a track or drag not RC
I started RC with zipzaps as a tween. I then upgraded to x-mods, and finally hobby grade. One thing I liked doing was testing all of the optional parts to find the best combination. It turned out stickiest tires, dual motor (hot glue) using the fastest (purple?) motors was the winningest combination. That was zipzaps, i did the same thing for x-modz.
We had these when we were kids. You could get them from Radio Shack. I'm 46 years old. My brother and I would change all the parts around between the cars. They still have the same type of remote gun we had when we were young.
Reminds me of Zip-Zaps I loved as a kid. They were made by radio-shack back when they were THE electronic place to shop. Sadly you can’t find them much anymore.
It was this video a year ago that made me want one. I remember when these had licensed bodies. Found the Nighthawk and Vulture Hooniganish purple truck for $30 total US on eBay. I needed a smile. 🤓
I genuinely hope that these become huge! Great price point, looks like decent quality, now we just need replacement or 3rd party parts. I really miss XMods, I had the copper 350z and the Transformers Police Mustang, loved them both, think they were stolen though, they just disappeared out of my stuff years ago.
Blown away with the intricacy of the car, clip together plug and play. Hours of fun wonder if the battery is changeable in the car? Well worth the £49 or the £89 for the bigger bundle deal.
yeah totally......now for a "kid" still kind of pricey but what isn't these days? I was shocked when I looked at the price of model kits.....back when I was a kid, $2.00 for an ok one, $3.49 for a really good one. I'd shovel someone's walk in the winter for a dollar and do 2 or 3 and off I'd go to the department store.....
Dear Santa.... Yes please ! Would love to get several people with these, and set up races, even a racing league. So important what you said about the stem application of these....
Dude! My nephew and me was the first in the area to get our hands on a red and white Toyota supra xmod from radio shack back in the day. This looks awesome!
Not quite as “cool” imo, but definitely more practical in this day and age than XMODS due to being rechargeable 2.4 etc. I still have a huge collection of xmods and some still sealed! Seeing this brought a lot of nostalgia to my childhood, bang on about the STEM aspect as tinkering with things like this teaches a lot.
I was just thinking the same about mine but realised they were disposed of years ago sadly. Great kits. Loved the SVT Mustang and I had the later generation H2 which was alright.
The "sad" thing is, that only kids of our age will apreciate this. Awesome vid! BTW, my first RC-car was a Tamiya Datsun Firelady Z240. Can't find it any more :(
I wonder is there some way to Jimmy rig a 3wire servo into the steering and make it more hobby grade - won't like I'm quite interested just for the customise options and just fun in general
You can't be any older than me and I remember the Tamiya Tamtech 1/24th rc cars from the 80s. I could not afford one when they were new, but when they were discontinued my mom got me the store model from the hobby shop in the mall...
The thing that impressed me the most was how you able to get those rolling shots from the car at 9:45. This is pretty cool I will probably get this for my nephew!
I bought an MN99 for my nephew to learn how it works and to learn how to handle screwdriver etc... this would be better option as its indoor oriented :)) great video, thanks :)
