    After a lot of missed shots, I decided to go with this lens. The reason is pretty simple. I was using the Ricoh GR III, but it is not weather sealed. It was not the right camera for me, especially when I want my clients or subjects to take me seriously, so I got the X100V. I actually love the fact that you have to screw it on instead of clicking it on. It makes my camera weather-sealed again, and I can enjoy the 28 mm with the extended thumb rest, a grip, and the amazing Fuji film colors.

    Great assessment. You tipped me in favour of getting this lens. After looking at my best rated photos the most common focal length was about 28 mm. I realised how much I like this field of view which gains you more than 50% real estate.

    I have been using the WCL and the TCL since 2013 when they were first released. I have recently done the magnet hack to allow them to be auto recognized by the X100V. I would not leave home without either adapter in my kit although I do use the WCL far more than the TCL. If you think the WCL alters the ergonomics of the camera try the TCL and see what altered ergonomics really are. :-)

    I really like the telephoto/TCL mostly to capture my kids at sporting events. I've also started to enjoy shooting jpg, therefore I changed the "focus" ring on the X100V to work as a zoom. JPG Image quality is great. Shooting this way gives me more time afterwards because I spend less time editing in Lightroom.

    I used to shoot with Ricoh GR, which is another excellent fixed lens camera for street photography. That camera's lens was 28 mm full-frame equivalent. WCL X100II brings me back my old framing habit from time to time and I love this option with X-100V. It also gives me an extra grip on the X-100V by holding the elongated lens from the bottom with my left hand to secure the shooting position.

    thanks for sharing - I totally agree to your conclusions.
    For me 28mm FFE as a standard would be too wide, but for landscapes, cityscapes, interiors etc. especially when I can‘t back up I will get this little thing out of my jacket and onto my X100V. Besides the stunning results it looks absolutely gorgeous on that camera.

    Because of Portland’s small city block sizes downtown, the WCL could be very useful in that environment. There are so many times I wish for a bit wider field of view and cannot get it because of being backed up against a wall. It’s on my someday soon list. 😀

    Thanks Booray. Problem is size once you added this lens, I suspect you might as well get a camera in the xt line. I have the X70 which also has the 28mm focal length. I love that camera to bits. I sold my x100T after I got the x70. The x70 is really a pocket size powerhouse...
    Just a pity Fuji never upgraded the X70 to a newer model. Hopefully in the future.

You stated in this video you may leave it on all the time. Assuming that's true, I've noticed, with the exception of this video, you always have your square hood on the camera. I want the X100V with the wcl-70x converter. It's half the price, 2mm wider than the 100X. For me, it's a must have item and a lot cheaper than a separate lens for an XE-4 with the benefit of that awesome viewfinder on the X100V.

    A great video on this WCL, and I had this same thought process myself a while ago. I found out the X70 WCL works fine and picked up one of those off ebay for $100. It's a bit wider than the one for the X100 (I think it comes out to around 26mm equivalent) and not designed obviously so maybe there is SOME slight improper lens correction, but it works fine. The only thing I had to do was glue a tiny magnet on the inside lip to get the camera to auto detect it, but that isn't necessary if you wanted to just use the menu to turn on WCL auto correction. So I went on the cheap...and am definitely happy to have some wider options, for when I need it. AND, on X100V is the WCL/TCL makes the camera waterproof without the need for other filters.

    I shoot quite a bit on my my pro gear, I also have a Sony RX100 VI and had a Ricoh GRIII, both capable of 24 and 28mm. The truth is that the 28mme. When I need wider, I need 20 or 24mm. I wish the WCL did 24mm and the TCL did 60mm. These add-on lenses just fall a bit short for me to bother with. If the 35mm does't handle the job, I'll grab the Nikon D850 or even the little Sony RX100 VI.

    Great video as always! I’m a sucker for quality gear, but in this case, the answer will be ‘no.’ For one thing, I’m currently in the process of selling all my Canon gear and downsizing to the Fuji system. By that, I mean quantity and size - not quality. It feels great to travel light, which is the beauty of the X100V. But, in addition to that, I also bought the XPRO3 and fitted it with the 16mm f1.4 lens. I told you I’m a sucker for gear! I was barely able to justify buying the XPRO3 which I bought after the X100V, and if I start equipping my X100V with different lenses (conversions), then I’ve totally blown my carefully crafted justification for buying the XPRO3, which was to have the freedom to have more lens options. I don’t want to jump down the rabbit hole like I did with my Canon gear! Must. Keep. My. OCD. In. Check!!! 😂

      I too have them both and find there’s a lot of gray area between “must carry” and “never.” I like having them and I do use them as part of my “travel kit”. But I don’t have to pack or use them all the time. They provide flexibility at a relatively low cost - both of mine were “open box” purchases. Both are easily carried, along with my mini flash, in a sling bag. If I just want to grab the camera and go walkabout - still an option. The lenses can stay, with the bag, at home, hotel or in the car. And while the TCL is a bit bulky, I find that the WCL to be pocketable, so it can also be carried alone in certain circumstances.

    Question....if you are already 35mm and this takes you to 28mm...cant you just backup a foot or two to gain the same perspective of the 28mm? Thats what crosses my mind as its not a great difference but it is a difference. So why can't a person just step back a few feet and take the shot to get that same perspective of the final shot in 28mm? Because honestly the picture looks like you backed up a few feet to get a wider perspective.

    • @BoorayPerry
      @BoorayPerry  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
