  • Watch this Subaru diff service guide so you don't mess up your differential by filling up the wrong place causing major damage and a potential accident when the diff fails as it can lock up when complete failure occurs.
The Subaru models that have this transmission are as follows
2012 year onwards with 2.0 litre and 2.5 litre engines
    Legacy, Outback, Impreza, XV, Forester

This is a quick bulletin video I was asked to make to help raise awareness for technicians when doing this diff service.
As this info is equally valuable to any DIY enthusiast I thought it would be a good one to edit and post up. As always thanks for watching :)

I accidently put the differential fluid in the wrong fill plug tonight, the one on the left side of the car that is circled in your video. I feel like a total idiot! How do I fix this? Can I siphon it out or did it contaminate my CVT fluid? I was able to fill the front differential from the port on the passenger side but don't know what to do about the fluid in the wrong fill hole. Please help!

Good to know. It's crucial to use a data provider to give accurate guidelines for servicing and repairs.
    Good job mate! 😉

Hello and thanks for the video! On my Crosstrek my 2018 , the exhaust pipe is there, making reach for the fill plugg on drivers side (left) impossible. But on the passenger, right side there is a plug which seems to be fill plug as well. A bit confusing, because my exhaust is on the drivers side ,in contrast to images you show

Just wondering, what's directly behind the filler plug? I tried to get a sample of fluid and it was pretty hard. I used a pvc hose, but wondering if I could use a 90 degree bend aluminum tip next time or would I scratch up the backside of the ring gear? Thanks.
