Ok, here I am. In the parking lot of the theater. Unable to proceed with life until I watch your review of the movie that just ended 3 minutes ago.
It was 5/10 for me
3 for me. Terrible
@@dnice21684 thats fair
@@andrewcruz3837 yep, the ending really tanked my rating 😅
My husband: Let’s go see “LongLegs” this weekend.
Me: Let me see what Joseph and Nick think first.
My husband: Who?!
Me: 👁️👁️
I don't think Longlegs was the actual devil or possesed by the devil. He was just carrying out his will. Through devil worship and ritual, the devil's 'magic'/'powers' flowed through Longlegs and into the dolls when embedding that dark smoke-like soul in the metallic spheres in their heads.
Agreed.
Yes!
Yeah that's what I think too
But, ultimately, the devil is still the bad guy in the movie. I think the movie would have been more interesting if there were a practical reason that Longlegs was able to coerse these men into killing their families besides the fact that they were actually being possessed by Satan.
@@nastee10 Was the devil the bad guy, though? Were they actually possessed by Satan? They were certainly possessed by an evil sort of dark magic that Longlegs was able to conjure, and yes, it was powered by the devil, but it wasn't really Satan himself possessing them. Think of it like Star Wars. There's 'the Force.' And, specifically, the Dark Side of Force. That is what the Sith used. Look back at A New Hope for reference. The Emperor is named-checked. He's, well, he's the emperor. He's in command of things. But then there's Grand Moff Tarkin, and then under him is Darth Vader (Tarkin does appear to have some command over Vader). At any rate, to compare to Longlegs: The Emperor is the devil, and Darth Vader is Longlegs. But, at least with A New Hope, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who will say that "the Emperor is the bad guy of the movie." Most folks would say that Darth Vader is the bad guy. Same with Longlegs (heck, the film is named after him). Satan is just the Emperor in this regard. We barely even see him during the movie.
Before I watch your review, I just want to say. I'm glad anything original is being attempted. And I had a lot of fun seeing this in theaters with a full audience. It felt more like a well-crafted short story than a film, but it was not a waste of time. The nuance may be this film's saving grace.
@@connordebruler3264 Just want to say this is a nicely put review!
She was given the “intuition” because the first letter she received from long legs said tell them what we put in your head referring to her psychic abilities not being her own.
Longlegs was not the devil. He was a friend of “the man down stairs” which he says multiple times.
I told the same..... The real murderer was the nun.... I found her even scarier than Longlegs...... which surprised me......
It was explained that harker was also controlled with her own doll and longlegs was telling her what to see and what not. That explains her intuition
Why would Longlegs want Lee to see the truth tho? That's what I am thinking about.....
@@arontamas5639 All part of the devil's plan
Joesph's life story, "I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in The House." LMAO!!!
💯💯💯
He's not the devil, he works for him.....thus him yelling out hail satan.
The cinematography was amazing. I LOVED the way the film looked. I want to watch it again just for that alone.
Wait, I didn't thing Cage was the devil. I thought he was just a devil worshipping killer. They showed the figure with horns. 🤷♀️
That is exactly what I thought, then I keep reading he is the devil. I didn't get devil vibes from him, just devil nutjob vibes.
It wasn't a pentagram, it was an INVERTED TRIANGLE 🔻
Nick Cage looks like 1999 Marilyn Manson.
“He looks so alarming!” Lol I loved that he was roaming around looking like that. There were 2 of his short scenes of him acting wild that made me crack up in a good way. He’s great and nightmarish in this.
Agreed
And the way half of the Hollywood looks nowadays
He’s about as scary
I feel bad for saying this, but he reminded me of Vicki Gunvalson from housewives of OC 😶😅
"He also directed my life story" 🤣 the pause 🤣
You two are seriously refreshing to watch. You seem so genuine. In a genre of TH-cam that is so over saturated (like everything else) you guys stand out. Idk chill demeanor and seem like you actually understand the films you watch, I love it!
I liked that the end credits were played in reverse almost as if they were going down into Hell
Paying homage to Se7en
@@imaneightiesbaby oh you’re right! I forgot Se7en utilized the reverse credits
I went into the theater feeling so terrified because I saw the trailer where they showed Maika Monroe's heart rate going to 170 bpm after she saw Nic Cage's face for the first time. And his face had a bar over it in the trailer. I was expecting to see something so horrifying and it was just the same face we saw through the entire movie. Honestly I thought he was wearing a mask the entire time and something horrible was underneath. The marketing for this movie was way over hyped. It wasn't a bad movie. Just not what I had anticipated.
Excellent comment.
The movie was decent. I fell asleep here and there. I gotta rewatch.
lol I would love to hear your description of what could possibly be “so horrifying”. Black eyes ? Sharp teeth? Gorey wounds? Like WHAT would be SO scary? I can’t imagine whatever it is would be horrifying to most.
“He’s on a spectrum that satisfies…” 😂 Best description of a Nick Cage character. Ever!
I love odd Nick Cage anything, he just seems to be having so much fun parodying himself these days.
"copycat" is an underrated classic 90's thriller!
Some of the marketing for this movie was genius! Putting black billboards up with nothing but a red phone number across it was definitely an interesting choice. Of course I called the damn number & was greeted by some creepy ass man whispering & heavy breathing! So freaky!!
Favorite moment was Nic Cage singing that crazy song outside her house in a later flashback
i love that we got the classic nick cage scream
It sounds counterintuitive that a serial killer would want to be caught, but there have been so many serial killers that have outed themselves and they’ve actually gotten caught because of their desire to take credit for their murders. It’s actually not uncommon. I’m thinking specifically of Btk zodiac killer, Ed Kemper confessed etc….
Not only that, but there are plenty who are just incompetent. Movies always depict them as hyper intelligent when in reality some are barely functioning and few ever really rate above average.
@@jacobstaten2366 very true. They are sickos
Those irls were never caught even the zodiac isn’t official confirmed
I think I found the best movie reviewer’s on TH-cam. Even with the spoilers I still want to see this film.
Loved this review. After watching a few filmbro reviews where they spent the whole time saying "brooooo" I really appreciated your guys' objective stance.
They’re so knowledgeable and genuinely love film- make so many references to previous films I don’t even understand. 😅
Awesome review! I don't think that LongLegs/Cobble was the actual Devil, but "A friend of a friend" to Mr. Downstairs - which is what he called the Devil. I do think that he was some sort of lesser demon though, and that he was sacrificing the families and making it public to honor Satan. So the families were his devout offerings, creepy as that is. And he recruited Lee's mother to further spread the corruption.
But he said "Hail Satan" not because he's the devil himself, but because he was worshipping the devil. That's my take anyway, lol
Also, that was a Lucifer sigil I think, not a pentagram. Sorry, I don't mean to sound nitpicky 😂 I actually agree with this review, and enjoyed the movie. 😊❤️
Loooooooong legs 🗣️, that opening killed me 🤣🤣
@@amandadosanjos3994 do me a tell?
It was eh. Could have been better
The descriptions of Nic Cage's character had me cackling! :;P The problem with being overly hyperbolic, is that people will be majorly disapointed (especially horror fans, we often have smoke blown up our you know whats) when it's not true and word of mouth will kill this after the first weekend. I was already imagining all kinds of things and your rundown tells me my ideas were way too hopeful. Underplaying things is always safer to me. Anyway thanks for saving me being hugely disapointed guys! Now I can go in with much more reasonable expectations!
Just got out of the theater, and I really enjoyed it a lot! I didn't find it that scary, but as horror is my favorite, not much does. I agree with the exposition dump and we didn't need it! It seemed obvious!
I think this may be one of your biggest videos yet, guys. Counting down the minutes… 🎬🎬🎬
Did you know that the director, Oz Perkins, played that dorky guy David in Legally Blonde? The one that was like "The last 18 months I've been deworming orphans in Somalia" when they were sitting in a circle on the lawn. Just thought that was a fun fact!
He also had a small role in Nope as Fynn. ☺️
💕💕💕💕
@@redrumblond cool!
I didn't know that stuff 👍
His father is Anthony Perkins from Psycho. So he’s horror royalty
The antici....pation is killing me. I already have my tickets & ready to go.
Yay! Finally!! ❤❤❤been waiting for y’all’s take on this one 😊thanks for all y’all do!
Joseph saying that I am the pretty thing that lives in the house is his life story😂😂😂 same my love we on the same page! In the local Nick's face when he realized that's what Joseph was talking about is priceless
You guys are really great movies critics. You guys are educated, entertaining, truthful, and funny. You guys are like a modern day Siskel and Ebert. Love it.
I like Oz Perkins films, so I'll probably like this. But the ads put me off with "a modern Silence of the Lambs!!!" NO. Obviously, it's not like SotL, and that's going to disappoint many people. Stop doing that, studios!
How Lee knew how to arrange the pentagon and her intuitions finding the house at the beginning is because she was under the trance of her doll.....it allowed her to know things that LongLegs wanted her to know
“A little chihuahua shaking all the time,” is accurate 🤣 I paid more attention to the weird, anxious way she pouted her upper lip the entire time than anything else.
I enjoyed this film well enough, but I couldn’t connect with the FBI agents. They didn’t feel very human or real in how they went about responding to threats or expressing empathy for the main character. I understand why they were written that way, but I’m like damn can’t she call for back up, can’t her coworkers console her, etc.
The main character was really weird. She acted autistic. Then there was that part where her mother shows her the doll that was made of her and when her mother shoots it Harker falls to the ground and you see a kind of black smoke come from her head, Was that doll giving her the psychic powers?
@@StevenE-l9yI think so, but amongst all the exposition at the end that wasn’t clearly explained.
This is what I struggled most with - at no point did anyone call for backup. Even when they KNEW they were going into a killer's house.
Introducing fantasy to explain everything was such a huge cop out. This movie was a major missed opportunity.
1:00 I agree very much so with the hyperbolic and often exaggerated reviews of horror films these days just to market them to audiences. It just sets up unrealistic expectations. This is not the "scariest film of the decade" but it was promising and interesting!
1:52 Osgood Perkins was also in Legally Blonde (my favorite fun fact about him ever) haha
Overall, great review once again from you two :) I'm a big fan of Maika Monroe since Watcher (2022) so I was excited for Longlegs; Maika did not disappoint. As for the film, the tension was good but the overall story left some unanswered questions.
It was slow af. And definitely gave false expectations. 5/10
I am a new viewer but I have to say I love your movie reviews! You both get straight to the point and explain everything so well. I loved The Blackcoats Daughter didn't know it was the same director.
It’s the opening for me, Nick kills it🥰
Also why did Longlegs pick Lee's house if every other family had a dad and mom but Lee just had a mom?
good point, though maybe you could argue that's why he lets her make the pact in the first place or he already knew he could coerce her into making the pact so he could get someone to help
He said he targets White house’s and that Lee’s home was about the 7th he visited. Purely random
@ShaaneOh white was a euphemism for religious
Oh my god! I’m seeing this tomorrow night! Please be good 🙏🏻 💃🏻
hnmmmmm
Spoiler alert: it's good
I saw Nick’s Letterboxd score of 3.5/5 which gives me hope because his 3.5s are usually my 4.5s lol
Me too❤
Glad that you guys watched this. As soon as I watched it I had to see if it was me or this movie tripping. The movie was decent at the beginning but as soon as she was placed into a mind testing room.. I was like,, WHAT... To my knowledge, the only one that would have known about her psychic abilities would have been the partner that was killed in front of her.... So how would she need an evaluation on something that no one would have known about....
The mom sacrificing herself to save her daughter reminds me of deborah logan🤔
The atmosphere was tense and creepy. Nick Cage character will stick with you. Took my 24 yr old daughter and she really liked it. But we still had questions afterwards. She just texted me saying “ Why was there not a doll at the crime site?”
Good movie, good trailer, but yes stop with the overhype.
I was expecting it to be like the series Mindhunter not a horror flick
Great channel guys 👍👍
Because Lee"s mom was forced to stay there and watch for each murder so she took the doll in the case and left with it each time
@@amaebarnes I know, but the FBI were confused why there was no evidence that a outsider was at the crime scene. She would have left some sort of a trail. There were some holes to the movie, it was still good though.
Yall are doing the lords work.
Fantastic review! Agreed with so many of your guys points on the underwhelming feel of the movie. Keep up the good work!
Knowing one of my favorite reviewers watches my other favorite reviewers is awesome 😂! Can't wait for all of your spooky season reviews this Fall 🎃!
Cannot wait for this one!!! The trailers were so creepy and cryptic. I cant tell your opinions from the thumbnail😂
With all the B.S. Longlegs reviews that came out. I'm glad your guys is actual b.s. (the best stuff). No other reviews went into this much detail. You 2 really absorbed this film, and your analysis is outstanding.
Likes "You need to take yo ass to your mom's house"
I’m obsessed with them 😂
Man,I can’t wait to see this. I have loved Nic Cage since a young teen, enjoy most of his movies. Thanks lads as always, love watching your reviews 😊
Nick's comparison between this movie and Lost Highway was on point! I got the same weirdness when I was watching Longlegs.
I wanted to tell you guys that you make the commute to my summer job in Chino enjoyable. Also enjoy Joseph’s views on relationships
❤ your reviews and you’re always the first reviews I watch after a film. Glad I wasn’t the only one who thought of Baby Jane! If Baby Jane Hudson had a baby with the devil, he/she would look like Longlegs. Instead of singing Get It On (Bang a Gong), he would be singing “I’ve written a letter to daddy His address is Hell below” in his Baby Jane costume and doll nearby.
Just got back from seeing Longlegs. I dug it. Definitely overhyped but I'll add it to the library once released. Felt a bit rushed. If Perkins had a full two hours he could have really dug in to the mythos.
Oz is a dope director and he comes up with great stories. I think his movies would be even better if he brought in other writers. 7/10.
Thanks for the great in depth review and this is my favorite movie review channel
Seeing this tomorrow. Looking forward to it, but equally looking forward to your review✨✨✨
Im confused about when Lee's mom would have called the police and reported the intruder or mysterious guy? Because she went straight outside when Longlegs was outside and then she made a deal with him right then we are led to believe, in order to save Lee's life
Imo if the pentagram is completed ,the devil will be materialised as its own entity and wreak havoc 😮
Living for the shoutout!! Even in this context!! Love you guys ❤❤❤
I think the reason why she conveniently understood the evil symbol language was cuz subconsciously in her memories she remembers being around longlegs character and maybe he taught her or showed her what the language meant while those years he was hiding in the basement. Cuz a bunch of times she's getting flashbacks randomly to being inside her mothers basement and snake stuff being all over the place. Cuz remember her memory was wiped somehow, but she still has a connection to longlegs and he knows who she is and has been following her, cuz he's been with her for a long time. Originally i thought the twist would be the main character girl was the partner of longlegs and she was a plant in the FBI. But ut turned out to be the mom which actually surprised cuz i thought it would be the main character who was behind it all cuz she somehow knew so much about the crimes but its simply that she had the guy living in her moms basement since she was kid.
Always the best and most detailed reviews. Thank you for your efforts.
I was waiting for this review 😊
Hey there you guys! Yesterday I had the day off and went to see three movies. First I saw "Daddio" with Sean Penn and Dakota Johson. I'm surprised you guys have not reviewed it. This film was really excellent. Dakota Johson proves she can be an amazing actress. Also I watched "Thelma" with June Squibb. I purposely went to see it after your review from a few months ago. You guys were spot on about how wonderful this movie turned out to be. Last night I watched a re-release of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." It was obviously outstanding to see in the theatre.
What's Daddio about?
just came out of the theater. wasted such a good nic cage performance on a messy script that gets so convoluted in the third act with very little payoff.
100%!!
great review guys! love ur videos
Watching this before I decide if I want to see this at the theater today or not.
Freaking love you two, please never stop. I only watch you two when interested in an upcoming movie
Harker was a prisoner in her own body because she was STILL possessed by her doll. She was like this until her mother “killed” her doll.
Thank you! I have been seeing the hype for this movie and kept thinking, 'I'm going to wait for Nick and Joseph's review.' It just didn't seem as good, from the trailors, as it was touted to be.
Love ya channel. You guys are fire. How do you see these movies so fast? Do you have a membership to the cinema
They get invites to the premieres, which usually roll out officially a couple of days before the public sees them. 😊
@@TechnicJunglist wow. That is cool. I can’t listen to this one though. Long legs will bring back cage to the a list
14:35 thats the absolute FUN and great suprise they NEVER hinted nor said what will exactly happens when he completes his decades long mission. Its just a man and his dolls with supernatural surroundings. The "no payoff" is actually what I enjoyed most
It’s become a ritual for me to immediately watch your videos straight out the theater.
Yeah that shadowy devil figure shows up several times throughout film. Blink and you'll miss lot of them. Think I counted 5 sitings
Just finished, I loved it! Nic Cage giving Marilyn Manson Dope Show at Shady Pines 😂
Another great review! Everyone should watch your videos, you deserve to have 100k subscribers or more!!
You guys are some of my go-to movie reviewers. Keep it up!
💯
normally i like Fish Jelly Film Reviews and will check in here before bothering with a movie. I was already planning to see Long Legs having liked Black Coat's Daughter and some aspects of Gretel & Hansel. More importantly i like horror but have become tired of sequels, reboots, anything from Bloomhouse and therefore almost all that plays my nearby theater. I like Oz Perkins film sense. His deliberate slow pace and gorgeous imagery along with creepy/violent/disturbing/evil moments. So i went to see Long Legs. Even brought a friend.
Now checking out the Fish Jelly review i am reminded by how much i didn't like the plot, plot twists and characters. At film's end i wondered out loud there was nothing that had me care about the people and why they did what they did. The atmosphere is fine. The camera shots, settings and....deliberate slow pacing made me feel i didn't waste my time.
I read the interview with Oz in the NYT and he references the Thai art film Uncle Boonme as well as Dogtooth. So he has great influences. I think his writing for film needs help....
another turn your brain off production
Idk I’ve seen no one say it but this movie felt incomplete needs a sequel bad cuz like what was the ritual over years since the 60’s supposed to accomplish with Blair’s family being the final piece?
Yay! I'm glad y'all liked it. If it has your approval then I'm definitely going to see it tonight. You guys are the only opinion that I value when it comes to reviews. ❤❤❤thanks again
I have been waiting with bated breath for this review especially because I know how Joseph loves Nick Cage let's go!!!!
I've been anticipating this specific review from you guys because I wanted to be completely spoiled. Still debating if I'll go see it in theaters or not.
Id would wait till it streams. Don’t waste your $ like i did just now
It's an incredibly well shot film so see it in the theaters. Save the CGI movies for streaming.
@@chairun75 it was a 5/10 they overhyped nic cage appearance as well.
@@andrewcruz3837 I'm not really a fan of Nick Cage, but Maika Monroe has great subtle presence without having to try as hard as other actors. The cinematography was some of the best I have ever scene in a horror film, but many don't notice that sort of thing.
@@chairun75 her character was cool i guess. But she was too timid like a scared little puppy. Like how did she even make it in the fbi? Also they overhyped nic cage’s appearance aswell. He definitely did not look terrifying
It wasn't ''A Scariest film of the Decade'', But it was definitely an interesting watch, I would definitely recommend it to people who are more into crime/thriller genre, because this is definitely not a horror film. It has horror elements but it wasn't a full blown horror movie from start to finish. There was some unsettling and creepy parts but I never felt truly scared. Nic Cage and Maika Monroe were both great, the actress who plays Lee's mother in the film was fantastic, she was absolutely creepy. But it definitely a type of movie that you need to see twice, it demands that. So I am definitely going to be seeing again but this time alone at home. I just came out of the screening couple of minutes ago, so the movie is very fresh in my mind but I just... I don't know, I need to sit with this movie for a bit and think how I feel about it, because there were stuff I really, really liked and then there were some other stuff that I would put under a question mark. That's why I think it necessary to see it twice. I can say that I think this film should have been either longer or a mini-series, a 1 hour 40 minute runtime is not enough to tell such a story I feel like, there is quite a lot that is left to viewer's imagination, a very ambiguous ending. I don't hate the ending but I do wish we got a conclusion, it felt like we will be getting Longlegs 2 or something... but either way, I can't decide fully on how I feel about this film, I will say I did like it more than I did not like it, but I don't want to go in the details because I am not 100% sure if even the things I did not like I truly don't like you know? But it definitely was an experience that I overall enjoyed but at the same let down by few things, I did feel like it needed to be longer at the very least and the jumpscares were weak... absolutely weak to me. But I will still recommend for anybody to go check it out for yourself, especially like I said before if you are fan of these type of movies (Silence of the Lambs, Seven or Zodiac) then this could be a good time for you. I will say this, this film is definitely also not on par with Silence of the Lambs or Seven in terms of filmmaking, storytelling and etc etc... It definitely pays homage to those films but at the same time brings an interesting unique twist to the movie which I did really like. So yeah, go check it out. I feel like this movie is going to be very divisive, some people will love it some people will like it and some will straight out hate it, it definitely a more of A24 type movie. Also, Nic Cage's performance was definitely something... I did not know how to approach his character... but eventually he did get under my skin but I can see some people straight out laugh at this character because of how ridiculous he is in this. Even I smiled couple of times because Nic Cage was having a lot of fun in this one, oh my oh my... He was chewing every scene, the interrogation scene definitely is going to be a memorable scene from the movie. Gosh, I went on a huge rant.. I need to chill, but at the moment it very hard for me to rate this, I need to wait a bit until I can truly comprehend what I just saw.
I felt like it was well-made and atmospheric enough that I didn’t necessarily need the dolls to make sense I was along for the ride even if we ended up was pretty campy
I cant wait 4 this one. This one serms like my cup of tea. The marketing 4 this movie has been phenomanal. Every cpuple months there was a trailer and wpuld b just a polaroid with random words or phrases. Hooked me right away!! Great review
Just got out of the theater and couldn’t wait to see your take.
Thanks for the review. I think I will sit this one out until it streams and I can watch it at home 🙏🏽🍿
Smart choice. Don’t expect much tbh. whats your instagram
Notice a lot of great and Hansel & Gretel similar cinematography.
Yes, I agree when they say it's the scariest movie ever. It's a crime thriller, but it's more frightening and unsettling. I think it's worth a watch regardless.
Movie was good and not what I was expecting!
You two are spot on as always.
I watch your reviews just after iv seen the film as recap and to see your opinion.
Thought it was good, but yeah it definitely isn’t the scariest movie of the decade or any decade lol. Couldn’t agree more as well with how confused I was. I had more questions than answers and it just felt frustrating and not in a good way.
Holy cow thank you both so much this review is fantastic! I know it’s going to be a divisive movie and some people will be happy not having everything explained but I 100% agreed with all of the plot holes that you mentioned, I found yall in trying to see what I may have missed that has other people raving about this movie but fell super flat to me.
Will be checking out your other reviews!
The cinematography in this had me feeling Kubrick-esque vibes. I loved the set designs. This is definitely a re-watch for me.

Even when I don't agree with their opinions on a movie, I understand how they came to their conclusions and respect it. I will even go back and watch their reviews for a movie I have already seen just because their takes are entertaining. But I wish they would bookmark so we don't always have complete spoilers unless we choose.
i agree about the story leaving you wanting more but i wanted to immediately go home and shower after i left the theater 😂
