Everyone is drinking and having a chill vibe nobody is drunk acting stupid. Grown up way of chilling, i like this place.
That binge drinking culture common in the US and UK I don't really see in Latin America. People drink to have a good time but they don't get stupid with it. In my city in the US I can walk down the bar district and see people passed out on the sidewalk and puking all over the place. It's ridiculous.
Interesting comment. I agree. I've been walking and drinking these streets countless times for decades and I've never seen a single fight! This is really amazing. Perhaps because of the profusion of women. Why would a man fight? In fact, young people from Rio don't drink until they can't stand up anymore, as we see in the United Kingdom. The beer is light because the weather is hot and we (I'm from Rio de Janeiro) drink a lot, actually, to keep cool. From the beach during the day until 4 am in the nightlife. So beer can't be strong like in Europe.

I was here last year. I was blown away by the cultural disparity between Rio/BR and my home country (NL). The people in Zona Sul Rio live in the present moment, have sunshine, parties, beaches, beautiful mountains, forests with monkeys in them, fun, sex and adventure. They are living like we are supposed to live, in accordance with nature. People in my home country are living very shallow and unnatural, not really living at all, mostly zombies, living for tomorrow not today (studying or working), staying inside the house or office away from nature, caring about the economy and obeying the law, listening to their elite unaccountable government, experiencing fake things (Netflix), get fake achievements (having 9 to 5 capitalist bullshit jobs or by playing video games), have fake sex (porn), wearing stupid dehumanizing masks in terrible shit weather every day. Since coming back im experiencing reverse culture shock massively. Im depressed atm in NL and considering moving permanently to BR. However due to my lack of PT knowledge this is currently not an option. Im considering taking PT lessons in Rio next year. Ipanema/Leblon/Copacabana/Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas is paradise. My thoughts on Europe/USA: "The perfect dictatorship would have the appearance of a democracy, but would basically be a prison without walls in which the prisoners would not even dream of escaping. It would essentially be a system of slavery where, through consumption and entertainment, the slaves would love their servitudes."

Yet Europe/USA attempt to retain their superiority and keep brainwashing its citizens that life is best inside their prisons walls. Brazil GDP per capita (2020) is $6,400 with 12% unemployment vs $22,600 and 6% in Portugal, yet despite the worse economic situation Brazil ranks higher than Portugal in the happiness index. Levels of happiness in Brazil are on par with Italy and Spain, despite being 4x poorer. Turns out a lack of serotonin due to lack of sunshine makes people very depressed. In addition to this, Vitamin D3 deficiency gives us all cancer in northern latitudes. But we are supposed to be afraid of COVID-19 and stay inside even more. Turns out optimal Vitamin D3 levels reduce COVID-19 incidence, severity and mortality drastically yet Western governments conduct gross negligence by ignoring this crucial fact. The relative risk of simply acquiring COVID-19 are increased by 77% when being D3 deficient (Meltzer et al., 2020). Estimates are that 30-60% of the European population is deficient (Lips et al., 2019) yet no government initiates a population wide supplementation program. The only part of Western healthcare which is not useless is acute healthcare with preventive healthcare either being non-existent or highly dysfunctional. Aside from further exacerbating our vitamin D3, social isolation as a result of the lockdown increases the risk of heart disease by 30% a recent meta-analysis by the University of York (2016) has shown. We are getting COVID induced social isolation on top of highly individualized societies, which are in normal circumstances already skewed towards solitary behavior and removed from natural circumstances, which is social connection (see Putnam, 2000 on decline of social capital). We are supposed to live in tribes of 150 people and now we live in a tribe of 1 (See Christopher Ryan's book Civilized to Death, 2019) causing massive psychological problems. The imposition of a lockdown upon all citizens, irrespective of any democratic input or deliberation by the citizenry is indicative of the gradual transition towards oligarchic undemocratic societies wherein regular people lack political power (see e.g. Gilens & Page, 2014; Winters & Page, 2009; Wolin, 2017). Quality of life in Zona Sul Rio far exceeds that of the USA/Europe. These countries are a joke. Their entire functioning is designed in a manner which prioritizes the pursuit of economic gains, not happiness. While neoliberal capitalist thinking has penetrated Brazil, their way of life approximates natural living infinitely more than the unnatural way of life predominant in our individualist OECD nations. Money should be a means to an end, not the end itself. This is the error in thinking in the northern hemisphere.

Can you do a video about costs difference between Brazil vs Colombia?
Prices in rio are similar to european prices. I paid 15 euros for sunscreen in rio supermarket. However, some restaurants are really cheap, as long as you go away directly from the beach. Move one street away from the beach and meals of 5-10 euros. However in copa directly at beach i paid 17 euros for bottle of wine and 30 euros for a meal. Hostels are around 20 euros a night in dorm room. However now during covid prices are cut by 50 pct. There are dorms for 8 euros a night now
