yeahitskimmel Pretty sure you’re joking, but....... The gain control adjusts the amplifiers sensitivity to the input signal from the head unit so the lower the the input voltage is, the more you need to increase the gain to compensate for this. Going too far causes the amplifier to cut off the peak part of the waveform (clipping) causing violent direction changes in the speaker voicecoil which generates a lot of heat build up and can lead to that lovely burning smell and a dead sub. Clipping also puts excessive loads on the amps power supply which can burn out the fets and also draws more current from your battery and charging system, neither of which are ideal.
So that’s why you shouldn’t think of the gain pot as a volume knob👍🏻

Dont foreget a fuse on the cord from the battery to the amp, As close to the battery as possible, 2-3 inches is enough. So you protect your stuff :)

Well the L7 takes way more power that that MTX. Used to have a L7 12 on a skar lp-1000 and it was bumpin.

A 4cyl out of a Frito lays truck will bolt up to the 4L60 easily. He could also get a mercury 4.3L boat motor head and eliminate the spider injectors which would give him the ability to add power. Stock 4.3L liter suck for power.

When you get a chance just replace the head unit with pioneer head unit. It will improve sound quality substantially

Just plain cancer. Had to bore 3mm diameter and 2mm deep holes in MDF yesterday without a mask because of covid... just awfull. The whole shop still smells like burnt glue and wood.
You're going to need an upgraded alternator and you really should look into a drycell battery. I suggest downloading a free computer program called Winisd. It'll help you when building a sub box.
Turn the volume to 30 and adjust the gain on the amp until you hear distortion then back it off just a bit. Easiest way to tune without a SMD DD1.
unless your headunit max volume is 20, or 50, or 60... or who knows what. That is just horrible advice.

There's this awesome invention called a splitter cord/cable/wire/s also known as a Y-cord RCA SPLITTER Y-CABLES and then you have more RCA output and or input Jack's!!!

I love building systems. I learned from all my mistakes the first time around and became professional by the second install. I don't know much about competition setups but it wouldn't be hard to figure out.

15 years ago when I was in high-school one of my friends had a real nice custom pearl white dc4 integra with a 15" kicker solobarrick (square sub). That thing sounded amazing and pounded unlike anything I've ever heard before or since.

If the gain isn't set right you will toast the voice coils in the sub and don't use the bass boost

Right! I agree with you there! I had 2 15" L7s in the back of my s10 at one point. Probably 1 of the loudest systems I've hooked up and had the pleasure of owning. There's actually some videos of it on my channel if you wanna check em out. Was a clean install too. Had 2 Hifonic 2000 watt amps hooked up. 1 a piece, wired them to 2 ohms. Ported box. And a 300$ glass mat extra battery to keep the power from dropping. Actually got pulled over once for pounding as I passed by a couple police officers lol.

I didn't even know MTX made square subs. I had an old Kicker L7 15 like 10 years ago. It got jacked by some douche that on of my questionable friends hung out with, and crazy enough...he got in an accident in his F150 pickup. The Big ol' 15 was in a box sitting on the back seat, sitting directly behind him mind you, and he rear ended someone going about 60 mph/100 kmh. The sub smacked him super hard fractured his entire skull and he's actually a bit slow now. He had enough brain funtion to come to me and apologize about stealing the sub from me. He said karma caught up to him pretty quick and made him regret doing such a shitty thing to someone he knew. I only mention it, because I always think of this whenever I see a square sub. Which is why I only run round subs now. It really does give me anxiety. Whether or not it was swift karma, I'm not the "get even" type. I never wish anything bad upon anyone, even if they have wronged me or someone I care about.

Hey Kyle, you don’t really want to put the crossovers for the front speakers in the doors, they will eventually get wet and short out, if you have room back at the amp, you can mount them back there and run the wire forward from there, they don’t need to be close to the front speakers, a lot of people think this to be true, BUT NO!! Lol Just tryin to help out, or if already mounted well in door, put in plastic bags or anything waterproof. ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽
you dont need multiple rcas.... theres a rca out on the main amp YOU LITTERALY SHOWED THE DIAGRAM IN THE BEGINNING OF THE VIDEO
I wouldn't have mounted the amp to the subbox, and if you absolutely have to, caulk those holes to stop air from leaking. Run your power independently from the RCAs to stop noise. Tune the amp with a multimeter. It's pretty simple with a TH-cam tutorial. It'll save you from blowing the speakers. Good shit man. Love the vids.
Please hire me as a audio tech! The dual is a huge no no, especially with that set up. Just a huge smh moment.. Walmart brand head unit mixed with mtx, whyyyyy?! Hmu I got a portfolio of at least the 3d blue prints I designed for multiple systems. (Dream job as well)
You're gonna need a bigger battery at least. A capacitor might work here and should. Look into a capacitor first
The head unit is the most important imo. The duel might have the hookups you need, but, not the worthy-ness of the good MTX components. Also, pack fu#%ing everything with dayno mat or something like it. Sound deadening is key.
LS SWAP!!!!!!! yes a 5.3 will work with your transmission and transfer case. Or a late model 4300 2015+ would be bad ass.
I wouldn’t do ported. Yes it’s louder but usually sounds shitty at every frequency other than the one the port is tuned for.
Dual head units are garbage. Pioneer or nothing.
The smaller “amplifier” with the component sets for the tweeter is a crossover, not an amplifier.
Definitely run the power wire direct to the battery, and use a fuse or when you pinch the wire and short it to the chassis your van will burn down. A wire that size directly shorted can absolutely get hot enough to ignite your carpet before it melts in two. Ground your amp directly to the chassis somewhere close to the amp, short wire and low resistance connection is important.
I would ditch the 4x6’s altogether so you can crank up the 6.5’s to their full potential. Personal preference on that one though.
Not sure if you did this, but run rca’s down the opposite side of the car that you ran the power and don’t run them parallel with data wires in the car. The rca’s can pick up noise that’ll feed through as a high pitched whine. Even if they’re supposedly shielded.
MECP certified installer with over 5 years experience of fixing all the above mistakes people often make plus many more.
Strongly recommend you purchasing the pioneer dmh1500nex. It is an awesome radio sub 300 and has carplay or Android auto which allows you to use Google maps which would be optimal for your long trips
Pro Tip: Next time you're soldering a bunch of wires, get yourself an old cap from a rattle can, cut a slice at 9 and 3 o'clock, insert wires, and now you have two hands free to solder.😉👍

You should check out Caraudiofabrication's TH-cam channel. He has a lot of good info on how to make your system sound the best it possibly can and look professional. He's got everything from sound deadening material to preventing annoying vibrations in your system and more. It's definitely worth your time.
ummm... that crossover? you don't want that inaccessible, you'll need to adjust crossover points... bass or lo mid to 4" speakers is no Buenos...bbtw, mtx is low end

You def are not installing 2 sets of indoor component speakers and running wire to all of them in 2 hours.

Sorry to be that guy, but MDF is not great for a bass housing, as it's compressed sawdust essentially. Plywood resonates much better and gives a nicer tone, which is why guitar amps use it for the case.
The crossover will rattle to pieces mounted like that, on the inside. It's all circuit board and solder, which isn't super strong, it's also nice to be able to access is to tune the setup. It allows you to tune how the lows, mids and highs are distributed.
Make the wire only as long as it needs to be, it'll just rattle around and create wire breaks. Mount them to a surface as well to stop rattling.
Really , please whoever u are don't under any circumstances install car audio like this , if a company is good enough to give u the equipment for free u could at least install it properly. ........😠

Kyle mount that amp somewhere else. Never mount the amp on the sub box. The vibrations will cause the components to come loose from the circuit board, destroying the amplifier.
Can't believe how well the kicker L7 series performed when they launched all those years ago. Wish I kept more of the items I farmed-out when we moved house. 😔
Unless that was glue , you should never use silicon sealant on a subwoofer or speaker enclosure and then fit the speaker . The fumes will attack the copper voice coils .
Also that channel is running full range you can hear it . You need to turn the low pass filter on and set it anywhere bellow 100hz.
