Those more flexible ride cymbals are a joy to play on. I feel like they're more manageable in terms of controlling it with the stick, and tend to always have a really nice wash. Beautiful cymbal, man.
I also got almost a new old stock 602 24" from Drugans last month. Soooooooooooooo nice! You, Terry and I should get together. I have A LOT of vintage cymbals. Love vintage pies my man!!!
I really hope I run into you and Terry at this year's Chicago Drum Show!! I could talk drums, cymbals, and Zeppelin all day with you two! And jazz with you!!
Between 6:12 - 6:20 those drums my man, that sound. I’ve rewound it 8 times already haha! I love the sound of these Ludwig’s so much, I now know that the 3-ply maple/poplar shells are my favourite of all time. Now to mention that ride, all I hear is the opening to What Is and What Never Should Be. Sounds excellent, all of it!!
Paiste and I think all Zildjians have a clear coat on them. That's why some older Paistes with their higher copper content get so terribly brown or black once it is polished away or worn off. Not really so much with a Zildjian or a 602 which would have B20 bronze. To clean and polish it (lightly) and clear it or use Johnson floor wax which I have done will preserve the luster and not affect the sound. Rob Wood, a Paiste rep in the 80s told me about their coating.this is why color sounds were not a problem. They just needed to add dye to the lacquer although I do believe a heavier coat was needed for a consistent look. This cymbal sound GREAT! Kind of a thin old A Zildjian like sound. That's B20 for you. Love B8 too. Just different.
Ludwig Drums and Paiste Cymbals(what's not to love?). The cool, shimmering, glassy wash is unmistakably 602. I've always felt that the 602 line was 'colder sounding'(vs the 2002s). Especially the Crashes and Paperthins have a 'Wetter', 'Icier' attack/sustain/decay(like jumping into a alpine lake in February). And my 602 13" Sound-Edge HiHats look like they're spun from GOLD!(and cut through ANY mix!) My Friend, your Talent, Knowledge, and Generosity are ADMIRABLE! Grateful, Ted Furlo
That's an amazing sounding 24. What a find! Baby, Since i been Loving you sounding so good on this kit. Vintage Paiste is pure church bells of resonance with just a hint of wash. Has any cymbal ever sounded better?! I just paired my pre-serial 602 14 hi hat top with a modern Sabian HHX bottom and boy that's a great sounding combination. The 14 sound edge bottom still sounds great too. You never know what will work.
Funny you mentioned LZII. A couple years ago I got the reissue 24" 602, and it could've just been me wanting to be Bonham, but I was listening to the isolated track for What Is And What Should Never Be, comparing it with my lovely new ride, and it sounded almost exact to me.
I recently got a set of 2002s and I love them, but the 602s have my heart. It started with that 24, they are just the most beautiful sounding cymbals to my ear.
wow, I dig drums, but I'm 100x more into cymbals, and these sound killer. I am super into the crashes...both of em are really glorious. This ride is pretty awesome too....really sort of glowing tone compared to the one you usually use. And I learned 2 new things from this 1) 602 vintage sound edge were made. I didn't think they made those (never looked into it, just assumed) 2) Bonzo used 602s, which is the real shocker, because I always thought it was all Giant Beat or 2002, at least according to my memory of that cymbal receipt that's floating around the net. Which I just looked at again, and it does list some 602. And finally, to wrap up my long comment, are these the hats that you usually use?
I can't believe how good those toms sound. I have a 13 16 18 classic maple tom config and I can't tune the 18 for the life of me. I've tried tuning it to your video but I must have a tuning disability cuz it still stinks haha
Is that a black beauty you are playing? It's a little hard to tell from the lighting. I am also curious if you are also using a Remo emperor and the range at which you have it tuned (I know you probably get asked this all the time).
It's actually a customized black galaxy 6.5 acrolite , with imperial lugs. It has an Ambassador , tight bottom, med right top. The last video demo I talk about it a little
I haven't really played them but I assume I wouldn't be a fan because I don't like when they get up in that range. Weight wise. I prefer under 3400 g. So I suppose I would prefer the medium weight. Then again if it sounds good...🤷🏻♂️
Maybe just the recording but sounds more suited to jazz. Would it have enough brightness to cut through all the other instruments in a live rock situation. I'm not so sure.
Very possible. It's a beauty, but I don't think it would cut through loud live amplification. Great for recording and moderately loud settings. Great for jazz.
Also, if you notice ... Bonzo's ride isn't very distinct, live. Even on studio recordings, he never really had a pingy sound. Eventually he played a 2002 live after 75, but before that it was always 24" 602's or Giant Beats which aren't very cutting
@@BONHAMOLOGY Great points. Our ears have probably become accustomed to a lot of modern rock drummers using the Zildjian ping ride and Custom As, which are pretty bright. These 60s rides tend to be washier and less pingy.
WOW! Amazing drum set and wonderfull old cymbals. New ones dont sound so good . Are you shure it's a ride 24" 602? My is a little bit heavier 3300 and its a MEDIUM.
That ride has a super-sweet tone, all those 602's sound great. The reissues just don't capture the right tones as the early pre-serials have. Great video, enjoyed the sound and the style.
Dang George, what a find!

Absolutely, agreed! Thanks Ash.

Absolutely love the ride’s shimmering sound!!! Can just bask in its beauty!
Loving the sparkling tone of that ride and also admiring the nice rich/punchy sound of your bass drum.
Thank you!
Wow!! She is very sweet. Crisp. Nice chimney bell. I love old 602. Always my fav.
👍🏻😁
this video was an excellent escape from the world today. appreciate you!
This is a PERFECT video.
Looks like your settling into your new set nicely.
That 24 has great stick definition for being lighter in weight! That is definitely a beaut!!!
I really hope I run into you and Terry at this year's Chicago Drum Show!! I could talk drums, cymbals, and Zeppelin all day with you two! And jazz with you!!
Wonderful!! So happy for you! (Not jealous at all) 😉
😁🙏🏼
Led Zeppelin presence Tea for One. New ride cymbal looks brand new.
Took me until the crash build/fills til I recognized it, but once that started I was there lol
@@parkerdavidson5868 thanks Parker for the reply

I love Vintage gear. Its got the vibe and soul of all the music its been apart of.
Agreed
Watching Goreges videos always makes me want to play my drums / cymbals

Yeah, I had heard that from Terry . Very good points. Thanks for the comments, good stuff!
Cymbal is great. Snare also. Great stuff, George!
A beautiful old cymbal ... lovely tone ...
Nice bit of blues too.
Will look forward to your forthcoming Pfoz video ! 🥁🏴👍
Thanks!

Duuuuuuuude, that ride sounds sooooo clean! And yeah man, definitely hear the Zep II. Instantly made me think of What Is and What Should Never Be
Sounds wonderful. Like a nice rain drop sound. Perfect
Love the lighting here!
Love the glassy-type sound from this cymbal George; so p,easing on the ears.
Every piece of your kit looks and sounds fantastic. Congratulations ! I'm really looking forward to your videos this year.
Thanks, Gary
Definitely some magic it that baby, sounds great.
Thanks George, I was looking for a new 24" Paiste ride, now I know what I am going to get.
Sounds killer G! Nice find.
What a ride and that bass drum sound, is so nice.
Lovely sounding cymbals George.
I've been looking forward to hearing these ludwigs! They looked amazing in your christmas unboxing video.
That is a BUTTERY ride. Love it!
Today the overheads are on! Nice!
Wow, nice find!
All the cymbals sounds great. To me the bass drum is not releasing the strike enough but holding on to a gong like, high mid tone.
Soooooooo
smoooooth

I wish I'd secured some of those 602s back when they were plentiful. But was always scared to death of the cost and then cracking.
Nic thanks George

That sounds amazing.Do you have an opinion on the Agop ,Mel Lewis ride cymbals?
MY GOD!!!!!🤩🤩. They never took thoes out of the box/bag....I won't let my better cymbals see day light, let alone play em. I am envious as hell
Phenomenal!!
😎👍🇨🇭🎼🔊 PAISTE!!!
Led Zeppelin presence Tea for One, my guess. New ride looking sharp
Nice smooth sound but hardly any bell sound and no crash. Why?
I can't believe how good those toms sound. I have a 13 16 18 classic maple tom config and I can't tune the 18 for the life of me. I've tried tuning it to your video but I must have a tuning disability cuz it still stinks haha
The 18 can sound funny , but it records great and sounds great from a distance.
Tune the 18 first at the lowest poss. pitch that sounds good, then go up from there on the others.
Like a cloud
never heard
anything like it
Lovely sound but if you could only have the giant beat ride or that what would it be 🤔
Maybe this!
Sounds great. Is the SK the new go-to pedal?
Not really, but almost! 😁

Do you ever have problems with that ride cymbal arm just falling over to the side if you are playing too hard on it?
Not yet! Iv only had this kit 2 weeks. However , I've never had a problem with the arm on my Thermogloss kit sliding over.
Exquisite.
What's the weight of this 24" 602 ride?
What's happening with the Speed King reissue pedal?
Still waiting
George, do you mostly use two 18” crashed and a ride when doing zeppelin or do you ever use a 16”?
I usually use an 18 and 20.... occasionally a 16 added on the right.
What do you think of the heavier 60s 24" 602s? I was looking to get one i saw listed, they said it's around 3950 grams.
I haven't really played them but I assume I wouldn't be a fan because I don't like when they get up in that range. Weight wise. I prefer under 3400 g. So I suppose I would prefer the medium weight. Then again if it sounds good...🤷🏻♂️

Ebay....took a chance based on the look.

I'm not sure but I'm going to weigh it. The weight was written under the cymbal but I'm not convinced.
Any way sounds amazing! 💝
Sounds nice george! Does it crash nice?
Yes!! It's got some nice flex and crashes big but not clunky.
Thanks so much for hipping me to this!!! 🙏🏼
@@BONHAMOLOGY well if you get tired of it down the road let me know since xmas is over and I will be able to come up with some cash.
Did he use 602's on tea for one?
Not sure. Hard to tell. It does sound like a 602 on Tea For One but it could likely be a 2002
According to my ears... this ride actually sounds like my ride which is a modern day PAisTe Dark Energy Mark II. Check it out.
Sadly never owned a pastie
No forehead? I want my money back! lol
