    this ballade is probably my most favorite piece of music from any composer, and to hear it played like this is just breathtaking.

    Now this is a truly original, completely mesmerizing interpretation of the Ballade in F minor. In just over 11 minutes, he told the story of a lifetime. I'm especially impressed with the melodic secrets he revealed within this piece.
    I loved it. Bravo, Eric Lu!

    I find Lu's interpretation of this composition totally satisfying. I have heard this music a hundred times interpreted by the most famous pianists, and there is nothing missing here. Perfect expression, perfect technique, perfect respect for Chopin and no attempt to mix Eric Lu into that part of the work of art that belongs to the composer.

      +Pedagozi Nis - I know he plays the piano very well, and he doesn't make a bad sound. But I just did not fall in love. I don't like his idea of the phrasing, and there was hardly any "lilt" to speak of. Even though I think Chopin doesn't need much rubato, this was much too straight for my taste.

    • @Ernesto7608
      @Ernesto7608 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      laguna, you wrote quite an understatement. You will surely have other chances to fall in love... You can always add a rubato in your head, but it's difficult to take an undesired one out. Better straight than schmaltz.

    I've listened to Zimmerman's Ballad No. 4 over 1,000 times. I'm sure this person practiced listening to Zimmerman's ballad number 4. Tempo and beat are almost in line.

    It would be doing Mr. Lu a disservice to say that he plays the piano. Rather, he seems to get inside the notes on the page and animate them with his own sensitive spirit. It is hard to imagine him getting any better than he is now, but of course he will. Bravo, Eric.

Both are excellent pianists from Curtis and I have no objection to people who think the other way around because both are just wonderful and it could just come down to a matter of taste.

    I feel as though most parts of this interpretation were slightly too loud, giving a more agitated feel throughout the whole piece, when it rather should take a more introspective feel with only subtle hints of agitation throughout, as it is in Zimmerman's interpretation. Still a masterful musician nonetheless, and very deserving of the high rank he received in the competition.
