Yes,he was wearing protective gloves and clothes but still,this is insane. Jackie beeing a perfectionist,didn't like how said scene came out.So.. he let himself get kicked into the burning coals,again for a couple of times,untile they got it perfect!!

And it is prohibited by his dad because the Drunken Fist only works when he is intoxicated. So he drank that to boost his ability. Also fun fact, Drunken Fist is based on chinese fairy tales about 8 fairies. This is why there is alot of role playing in the middle of the fight. Like he mimic flute playing fairies and the lady fairies who he became feminine in the fight. Drunken 8 Fairies also traditional chinese opera script. As JC is Beijing Opera trained, he is using some of the element in this fight, which is super fun to watch.
I like the English version of this movie because he names his moves. Also I'm always blown away by the scene with the hot coals knowing he does his own stunts

Now, Jackie getting older, his stunts are more tamer.

This was not the original Cantonese version but it has the same sound effects which is fine if you are watching just the fights.
