This scene actually has even more of a resonance for me after I went on holiday to Hong Kong in October 2015 and actually visited the Wing-On Plaza where this scene was shot. It was actually quite eerie; even though the shops have understandably changed in the thirty years (as it was at the time of my visit) since this film came out, the overall structure seemed pretty much the same, and you actually realise that the height of the railing from where he jumped to slide down that pole is higher up than you might think!

Fun fact:
All the glass in some shots were twice at thick so that it would look more realistic on camera. Unfortunately, that also meant it hurt the stunt actors more so a lot of the cuts and bumps you see on them are real. That's also counting Jackie's pole slide where he burnt all the skin off his hands, suffered burns and broke his pelvis.

Jackie was ahead of his time. This was 1985. Hollywood can't do these types of fights even now .

Jackie stated that he was scared! That is why you heard him screamed before jumping on the long pole in ordered to get that brief case. Jackie suffered 2nd degree burns on his hands after that dangerous stunt. Those "bad guys" are part of his stunt team. Before filming, Jackie and his crew sets up each scene and fights so they don't get seriously injured.

One the best fight scenes ever! You ever noticed that no one goes one at a time at Jackie Chan like most movies do?
showed the replays because that was probably jackie chans most dangerous stunt, nearly killed himself. He got hospitalized once the adrenaline wore off. Suffered electrocution, burned off nearly all the skin from his hands, i think he dislocated his hip, damage to his ribs, and some more. That "ah" he does when ontop of the railing before he jumps wasnt part of the script, did that to psych himself up...he wasnt even sure if he was even going to do the stunt. Sure it dosnt look as crazy as sliding down a building, but that was more controlled and he didnt injure himself... he knew doing this he had a good chance of dying, and if jackie chan is guessing something, then you know its dangerous.
Police Story's mall fight was one of his greatest fight scenes.

The Mandarin Chinese title is "jing cha gu shr". It means..."Police Story". Chan did not get along with James Glickenhaus when working on The Protector(1985). He was shocked when he saw a rough cut. He swore he would make a cop movie HIS WAY.

lol? old school punching sounds added flavour to kungfu films and felt more realistic then the shit now, to make it more realistic they've changed the sound affects and it sounds even MORE fake and terrible. Have you seen jet li's "romeo must die"? that making movements apparently equals a stick/bamboo waved across the microphone....in the end fight scene you see him warp bits of shits ripped shirt around his burnt hands and that a) made sounds for some reason b) they sounded fake

This guy is too young to know the legend of Jackie chan. The last stunt the skin on his palm were burnt off and fell 20ft from the end of the pole onto some cardboard boxes as cushion for his fall. His stunts are so dangerous that no insurance company in america would cover him and he has his own stunt team
Unmatched Pure Amazing Action scene ! just the speed and power of the blows not to mention the incredible stunts are all real nothing sped up or using effects

well the thing is that all those stunts and hits are real, jackie rpetty much hurt himself soooo many times in that movie :( The thing i really like is that you can feel the anger and energy pumping through the fight and the pace!! feels so real and unstaged!
