The S1H has stabi… the BS1H has not… both have the Same AF. If you are looking for AF performance of the S1H… there are lots of test put there. I don’t use AF
@@MediaDivision I would like the auto F. for the gimbal use, but not too much. But I saw many things like No ND filters, no Canon mount... I don't know... I would like to test it first before to take a decision, but I test the Blackmagic pocket 6K pro and I like it a lot, the only thing is auto focus is not there.
Than go for the BMD?! These are very different cams for different jobs. 6k S35 sensor with a fixed EF mount (no focal reducer) is a no no for me. As you can see in the video. L to EF is unproblematic and allows to apply PL too
Thanks… very different cameras for different jobs. Mavo is worthless for life productions as it has no 10bit 4K out option… or even 10bit 1080p. For narrative I would prefer the Mavo, BUT that is largely because I’m used to it and it fits in my workflow. Mavo does not offer efficiency codecs… so worthless for long form recording, too.
Thanks a lot Junkie... and thanks for your support. Exploring the deepest depths of my garage there. Man... I would love to ... I have concepts in the drawer... just no opportunities and no contacts... and obviously to many bad excuses
Interesting camera, but I'm a little disappointed by the lack of internal ProRres/Raw recording, let's see if Blackmagic will soon release an S35 version of their Micro Camera
No internal ProRes RAW for anyone thanks to RED ridiculous 4K RAW US patent. ProRes is rare in energy efficiency cameras as it usually requires programmable CPUs… you can’t have it all. As I can show… quality wise, ProRes 422 HQ is not better than Panasonic’s 422 h264. BMD is not likely to release a FF camera soon. So, this is not comparable. Image quality of the large Sony Sensors is just so good.
@@MediaDivision I understand this without needing too many explanations. I was just saying that I would be curious to see a Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera with S35 sensor (actually I don't care too much about sensor size), since already with the 4K version it was possible to record in ProRes or Raw, which I would have liked to see in this Panasonic but that, as you say, not it is easy to apply due to the commercial policies of R3D
Both can look great. EVA1 stand no chance in lower light… Sony FF is just so very good at it. Watch Bernards channel for footage of both (S1H is identical to BS1H in IQ). th-cam.com/users/bernardbertrand
That jacket is a pain to my ears! But very excited to see this new BS1H :-D @5:20 why couldn't they have developed a positive lock mount? Like Sony has for E Mount for their cinema cameras. Or Z Cam has done for Micro Four Thirds. Unfortunate that the BS1H doesn’t have internal ND filters, is the one thing missing to tip me over to buying a BS1H/BGH1.
When I tested bs1h, I was very surprised that Panasonic didn't give the opportunity to shoot raw photos at least with an electronic shutter. I gave my preference to the Sigma Fp as I often shoot timelapses for motion pictures and commercial projects, but at the same time I needed a compact personal video camera with excellent video capabilities.
Well… I think you can when in tethered modus. Big whoop. It is obviously to keep the BS1H limited to video use. For photo use, the S1H is definitely the better alternative
with that eathernet jack if they start making it work stright into UE without capture card and allow the software to rack the lens... instant success for mixed virtual reality productions
Camera control and monitoring.... yes. Image ... no. I wouldn't trust that over IP anyhow. Giving the cost of virtual sets and that weight is of little consequence, I think that one would grab something from a higher shelf in that situation.
my shortcummings with s1 are, when a hdmi is plugged in switching modes have a 5second delay. not sure if that is not present with this but thats a plus.
how does the BS1H perform outdoors? DPReview says it's "environmentally sealed," but Page 6 of the BS1H manual: "The camera is not dust resistant, splash resistant, or waterproof. Avoid using the camera in places with excessive dust or sand, or where water can come into contact with the camera. If sand, dust, or liquid gets on wipe it off with a dry soft cloth." Wolfcrow comparing to a7siii, said the fan noise on the s1h was loud, but can't find any comments about the fans on the BS1H being loud. Is the BS1H less loud than the loud fans of the atomos ninja V? Maybe I'm crazy, but I like the look of the oversampled 4k from 6k a bit more than sony fx3, maybe the sony's 12mp wider pixels give you less detail, but the best lowlight I'm looking to upgrade from my a7iii, and I slightly prefer the image out of the s1h and bs1h, though they're a little older and slightly less recording format options. I never take photos, mostly shoot indoors, small, slightly less-than well-lit spaces. I never use autofocus, never use IBIS, always shoot on a tripod, always use d-tap to external 98wh vmount, use atomos ninja V to pull focus, but then turn off the monitor to avoid the fan noise. Looking to do more long-form interviews and narrative filmmaking and learn 10bit color. Also was considering the Zcam e2 F6, though a lot of launch issues/buggy, and old format CFast cards/maybe less good for people like me, editing in prempro/pc. The image is amazing out of the Zcam e2 f6, though I think the S1H and BS1H aren't far off, both got sony sensors inside with the 5.9k rez, more or less. Seems the Zcam is more fully featured, but less reliable, and reliability is king w/ filmmaking. So it seems like the BS1H could work for me, but squeamish if I gotta take it outdoors, and no info on the fan noise. Internal 4:2:2 10bit recording onto dual sd cards is very nice, as is unlimited recording.
Exactly like it does indoors… it has a fan, so the body is open. From that perspective I would recommend to: "Avoid using the camera in places with excessive dust or sand, or where water can come into contact with the camera. If sand, dust, or liquid gets on wipe it off with a dry soft cloth." I wouldn't use it in pouring rain or a sand storm
I kind of wish that Sony had done the same with the FX3, just put the sensor of the A7SIII in a box. Which they’ve actually done before with the A7SII. It was a custom note industrial oriented stripped down box version of the cam, but not available for consumers. Now box cameras are more popular amongst indie film makers
I get the "how does it compare to… XYZ" a lot. How can we possible compare all cameras with each other?! I never used a FP. The specs are different, but, you can look that up. The FP is a hybrid, this is not. The FP is aimed at consumers and prosumers… this is aimed at studios and people that need the form factor and connections.
@@MediaDivision the main thing the komodo lacks is a built-in gyro for gyro based stabilisation. I wonder if this has one. There's no IBIS in this right? IBIS is actually a problem in fpv as the magnets aren't strong enough to withstand the G forces in fpv which makes the sensor jitter around. Pancake lens? do they have various focal lengths in that range? I am not familiar with panasonic lenses. FPV drone shots are typically very wide FOV's. I'm not sure if there's a full frame lens that would give a wide enough fov without being huge.
I don't think it does have internal gyro. It has no ibis. You can add external gyro sensor (i have one) that records the data to to he audio track. Still, this will only be so good and it will do nothing about the vibrations. you can adapt almost anything long flange to L-mount, and with super wides on a drone, you wouldn't need AF. Everything past 3m would be infinity. I regards to pancakes... look around... maybe you'll find something fitting. there is a 7Artisans 35mm f5,6
If they pay me… maybe. Otherwise… I don’t have a Zcam and such comparisons are boring (for us) to all but a hand full of people. Get the right camera for the right job.
Thank you for the review. I think it is going to keep me from buying this camera. They really shot themselves in the foot not allowing full frame with braw. A non bmpcc allowing braw is amazing but it’s moot with that restriction. Also weird that in this day and age they skipped ibis. May have to save for that Komodo.
Boxy camera trend continues. It wouldve been nice if the BS1H comes with CFexpress card slots, and maybe internal RAW or Intra codecs at 4k. I thinks its a tough choice, given that an sony FX3 cost about the same and has slightly higher framerates.
That opening was perfection
Thanks a lot Adam

You're right what you said towards the end "it's more of an addition" to the bigger cams.
Other than that...🤷🏾♂️
... it's probably just not for you
Interesting camera, but I'm a little disappointed by the lack of internal ProRres/Raw recording, let's see if Blackmagic will soon release an S35 version of their Micro Camera
@@MediaDivision in fact I didn't talk about full frame, but S35.
Yes… I read that… and telling you that a s35 sensor is not comparable to a this FF sensor
Alright
God I love this channel so much.
Thanks Nyleen… very happy you do. Glad you are around.
cool content, keep making cool and educational content for us!!!!, you are better than my teacher
Thanks Alif... will try!
Like to see how BS1H footage compares with EVA1.
Both can look great. EVA1 stand no chance in lower light… Sony FF is just so very good at it. Watch Bernards channel for footage of both (S1H is identical to BS1H in IQ). th-cam.com/users/bernardbertrand
Thank you Sir
Most welcome
Awesome & Thanks :)
With pleasure..... and thank you
That jacket is a pain to my ears! But very excited to see this new BS1H :-D
@5:20 why couldn't they have developed a positive lock mount? Like Sony has for E Mount for their cinema cameras. Or Z Cam has done for Micro Four Thirds.
Unfortunate that the BS1H doesn’t have internal ND filters, is the one thing missing to tip me over to buying a BS1H/BGH1.
I would have loved to see a locking mechanism for sure... and an E-ND. Sounds like the Mavo Edge is your cam... has both
When I tested bs1h, I was very surprised that Panasonic didn't give the opportunity to shoot raw photos at least with an electronic shutter.
Such a cute camera!
isn't she
When he said it's tiny I didn't think it would actually be that small. Like WTF, how is that possible? :D
Thats what I thought... ridiculously small
with that eathernet jack if they start making it work stright into UE without capture card and allow the software to rack the lens... instant success for mixed virtual reality productions
Camera control and monitoring.... yes. Image ... no. I wouldn't trust that over IP anyhow. Giving the cost of virtual sets and that weight is of little consequence, I think that one would grab something from a higher shelf in that situation.
Great presentation. Very informative. Love the leather sound
thanks... I was sick, it was cold, it was in the middle of the night and it was the only jacket around
@@MediaDivision well besides looking cool it sounded cool👍🎬
making a logo out of cutters was bad ass.
Thanks man... I still like it, too
Love your work :)
Thanks man!!
my shortcummings with s1 are, when a hdmi is plugged in switching modes have a 5second delay. not sure if that is not present with this but thats a plus.
Can't tell if it is the same here
how does the BS1H perform outdoors? DPReview says it's "environmentally sealed," but Page 6 of the BS1H manual:
"The camera is not dust resistant, splash resistant, or waterproof. Avoid using the camera in places with excessive dust or sand, or where water can come into contact with the camera. If sand, dust, or liquid gets on wipe it off with a dry soft cloth."
Wolfcrow comparing to a7siii, said the fan noise on the s1h was loud, but can't find any comments about the fans on the BS1H being loud. Is the BS1H less loud than the loud fans of the atomos ninja V?
Maybe I'm crazy, but I like the look of the oversampled 4k from 6k a bit more than sony fx3, maybe the sony's 12mp wider pixels give you less detail, but the best lowlight
I'm looking to upgrade from my a7iii, and I slightly prefer the image out of the s1h and bs1h, though they're a little older and slightly less recording format options.
If sand, dust, or liquid gets on wipe it off with a dry soft cloth."
I wouldn't use it in pouring rain or a sand storm
like every time - I loved your übergeile intro films;-)!! go ahead
Thanks man… always trying our best
I kind of wish that Sony had done the same with the FX3, just put the sensor of the A7SIII in a box. Which they’ve actually done before with the A7SII. It was a custom note industrial oriented stripped down box version of the cam, but not available for consumers. Now box cameras are more popular amongst indie film makers
I didn't know that.. interesting, thanks.
Fantastic. But be honest - the squeaky leather jacket was a nod to Loriot, wasn't it?
cold, late, me sick, only option
How does it compare with the Sigma fp? Could you use them on the same production easily?
I get the "how does it compare to… XYZ" a lot. How can we possible compare all cameras with each other?! I never used a FP. The specs are different, but, you can look that up. The FP is a hybrid, this is not. The FP is aimed at consumers and prosumers… this is aimed at studios and people that need the form factor and connections.
@@MediaDivision Just a suggestion made without expectation - it's a way for you to know your audience.
i really hope black magic finally adopts this body style too
I get that this is way smaller, but how is this that different from a stripped ursa mini pro?
A tiny Ursa with FF would be swell.... I don't see it coming though
great intro :)
Thanks a lot Red!
Wow I had no idea this existed, maybe this is a good option to run on my fpv aircraft!
why not... if it is strong enough?! You can save weight by using a pancake lens. Vibrations could be an issue
Finally!
Finally a S1H in another form factor??
@@MediaDivision yeah should be better for gimbals
@@MediaDivision also fantastic video as usual
I wonder if they ever put out an EVA2....seems like decent evidence they will by reusing the battery.
I am not holding my breath.... I would rather like to see a full fledged cine cam.
I do not like your content, I love it!
Thanks a lot Hsuman... really appreciate that you do and that you tell us!
I really want to try this camera out
Why don’t you
@@MediaDivision I think will. Hopefully I’ll be able to rent one first depending on supply shortages
Very interesting camera but having the S5 myself, id just invest in the ninja V.
Sure… whatever works for you… while I stoped used external recorders altogether
Panasonic didn’t send a body cap with it?
You left out the network connected capabilities. This and BGH1 are great options for remote tethered work.
funny .... I do mention and show those
@@MediaDivision Oh that’s good I must have missed it. I did watch the whole thing. It was late.
Please comparison between panasonic BS1H vs ZCAM E2 M4
If they pay me… maybe. Otherwise… I don’t have a Zcam and such comparisons are boring (for us) to all but a hand full of people. Get the right camera for the right job.
Thank you for the review. I think it is going to keep me from buying this camera. They really shot themselves in the foot not allowing full frame with braw. A non bmpcc allowing braw is amazing but it’s moot with that restriction. Also weird that in this day and age they skipped ibis. May have to save for that Komodo.
I think that might very well be a restriction in the HDMI protocol… sadly. But not a deal breaker for 99% of people.
That quality is just too good For TH-cam!😆
Then get me out of here!!!!!! ;-) Tanks man
Boxy camera trend continues. It wouldve been nice if the BS1H comes with CFexpress card slots, and maybe internal RAW or Intra codecs at 4k. I thinks its a tough choice, given that an sony FX3 cost about the same and has slightly higher framerates.
now internal RAW because of RED patent you know.... for nobody... BRAW is not RAW. For everything the BS1H can do, SD is fine and much cheaper.
waiting for the 3rd episode
working on it
love me some media division during the early shift :)
next time maybe dont wear a leather jacket during talking head shots tho, its kinda loud 😅
Sick, late night, cold, only jacket in the office. Glad you enjoy
Leather jacket sound it's a little distracting lol but cool too
cold, late, me sick, only option
Can you tell more about colour space, like the rec2020
All the same as S1H
I wish Blackmagic do the same with BMPCC 6k pro. put that 6k sensor into a box shaped body with internal ND filters.
… and a full frame sensor, and SDI out, and better runtimes.
