    Cannot believe you're having so many major issues with this supposedly running truck. The owner is certainly being patient and understanding. Look forward to seeing what's next. Be safe and stay well.

    My first thought is leaking intake gaskets. I and probably always will put silicone around the water ports on a SBC, both sides of the gasket, not. pile of it, but a nice clean coat. The holes in the block, I wanna say I’ve seen plugs there, for draining the block. I’ve got a couple 327’s I can look at and a 350 sitting under my bench, I’ll try to remember to take a look next time I’m in the shop. I’ve never seen headers glow like that either, well not in just a couple minutes of running. It’s usually when it’s been running hard. There’s a lot going on here. I hate playing clean up man to an idiot.

      I skim the gasket at the water ports too, but the block does have 1/4” pipe plugs on each side down at the pan rail for draining. Any thoughts on that small backfire and then pressure in the cooling system?

      @@LeftForDeadGarage weird to say the least. I can’t get my head around a back fire causing a spike in pressure in the cooling system unless it had a blown head gasket. It doesn’t seem to run like it has a blown head gasket. My only guess is since the cooling system was past full and there was probably a little water up in the funnel so when it back fired it put a shock wave through the block and since water doesn’t compress you saw the shock wave. 🤷‍♂️ I don’t know. I know this, at this point I’m sure you are wishing the engine was a basket case when it came to you as well, so you could put it together and have a better idea of how it was assembled and what the parts looked like. Something else that bothers me, how is it a “restoration” shop has a run stand but doesn’t actually use it to dial the engine in??? Going off what you said they did I could do sitting on a couple blocks of wood in my driveway, and that’s how I got fooled on my 327. If I’d had a run stand I feel like the problems I had would’ve been discovered sooner.

      @RealWorldGarage head gasket was what I was thinking too, I really feel like I should check the torque on all those head bolts. It really scares me knowing it was ran but no cam break in was done. Then I couldn’t run it like I feel like it should have been ran for a break in. Fingers crossed that it’s healthy from this point.

    Those holes could be where a rebuilt data tag once was. I so it’s still a bad mistake by someone.

      @LeftForDeadGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A tag would kinda make sense, considering the spacing for the holes but yea you’d think they would avoid going into the water jacket. Maybe they used some type of drive in rivet since I feel sure there wasn’t any treads there.

      Many years ago I worked for a local engine rebuilder. We would build 25 engines per day so we saw a lot of things. We did see this a few times but most were smart enough not to go not water jackets and now days I would guess they would use some sort of glue. Who knows but that’s just one more level of crazy

    Looking into buying a el camino 1980 v6 and i want to swap it with a 5.3 ls how much would the engine plus labor cost?

    • @LeftForDeadGarage
      @LeftForDeadGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It really depends on how you go about buying the motor. I try to buy a running truck to get my swap motors so I know it’s a solid motor. Then address the basics or go deeper like heads and cam. Labor alone is around $2500
