Motion blur should have a toggle, the animations look absolutely fluid with it on, i dunno why they INSIST on not including it on the console versions.
Because it uses a lot of recources from the GPU and they would have to lower the res, the current gen consoles are starting to show their age, not a surprise they been on the market for a while now.@@coruviel
Great review and it was nice to feel that you really understand the nuances of fighting games. Super impressed. Great review for great game. Looking forward to playing!!!
The latency they achieved across all versions is a triumph. Tekken 7 had a bad rep on the console as it made some moves impossible to react to due to input latency
Growing up in the 90s and at times comparing GB games vs their SNES counterparts, I appreciate the Steamdeck so much more, playing games on the go at just lower quality is such a great advancement in technology. I cannot wait to see what the Deck 2 will do...
Cool vid but something went wrong with either your HDR capture or conversion in some of this footage. It's really blown out. Check out the jukebox selection screen at 3:19 - the cover artwork highlights have gone nuclear.

I played this on my series x day one for hours and I was just amazed at the visuals! I know my xbox was working overtime cause that air coming off the top was hot hot! 🔥
I am glad that John pointed out the loading time improvement, since it matters a lot for a game like this. Also for racing game like GT, I remembered I just can't put up with the long loading time for GT sport on ps4
I really wanted to get the PC version but the demo had weird graphical bugs on my setup with an RX7800XT. Right after release I saw many reports of crashes and other bugs on PC so I’m glad I opted for PS5. Eventually they will probably fix the bugs at which point I’ll double dip. But I’m having a blast on the PS5 for now.
With two AMD computers in my household. 3700X-6600XT & 5800X-7900XT, I've had no problems with the demo. Since you have a relatively new AMD GPU, make sure you update your GPU drivers.
I wish you guys would take the time to test XESS on an ARC card. I find it incredibly unfair that you test DLSS on Nvidia, FSR on AMD, but not XeSS on Intel, where it works much better
Just picked up the physical disc for PS5 today. I used to love fighting games back in the mid-90s to early 2000s, but haven't really played them much since then. And even then, I mostly played 2D (although I had the first Tekken on the original Playstation). I bought this primarily to mess around with on occasion, and don't have any aspirations of going online or fighting against another human, so the inclusion of all the solo modes, plus the overall generally great reviews the game has been getting, really sealed the deal for me.
Was it mentioned how the controllers were connected for the input latency testing? Bluetooth can add a surprising amount (or at least it did, I don't know about current gen).
Had no idea about the TSR AA. I was using the TAAU on pc demo and felt like something was off so hopefully the TSR will resolve that. Will give it a go later!! Edit: tried it out and yep TSR is a night and day diff.. looks soOoo good. Vastly superior! Thanks guys
For me vsync off and everything else is set to ultra with 100 resolution scale. I have a 4090 though. Game looks good with those settings. Can't quutr tell if AA set to low or ultra looks better.
It's amazing how they provide so many AA/upscaling options but don't include DLAA and UE5's FXAA & AA off option which is more far more relevant & useful than things like "Catmull-Rom Bicubic". For DLAA my reasoning as a UE dev is that it's a seperate plugin from DLSS so it's often an oversight. As for FXAA/no AA it's most likely due to excessive aliasing however from my experiments with the Unreal Engine Unlocker Tool I was able to fix the aliasing with some engine tweaks.
Amazing review, John. I’m also curious about why they haven’t added the motion blur option for consoles. Maybe they'll add it in future patches? Update Sep 2024: They haven't.
Ahhh yes glad the smallest console base even within its own family of consoles has a zoomed in resolution benefit of 100-200p at best, really makes up for the shafting.
It's the same dude with the PS5 version. Whatever very slight difference exists in dynamic resolution won't be noticeable for 99% of the gamers. John mentions that.
Yep, pc all the way for anyone asking which is the best here overall I quite agree. Love the inclusion on all the OST playable to one’s heart content. Bandai Namco did gr8 here. Def a step up compared to its main rival Capcom imho
Steam Deck users beware - Namco in their infinite wisdom decided to keep graphical settings in the cloud. So, you'll have to manually update settings each time you switch between PC and Steam Deck. Very annoying.
i Think that fight from the reveal trailer might look a bit more dramatic in the story mode. also, as soon as i saw the amount of upscaling options, i knew df would have a blast analysing all of them😭😭
i recommend setting effects to low while other settings to high. The effects just add flying rocks, mist and particle effects just clutter the screen. When low, it boosts performance as well.

I was obsessed with Namco fighting games back in the day. I'm over them now but it's cool to see the series still going strong. Love the new muscle flexing feature. Not a fan of the trend in overdesigning the look of these characters though. I prefer the clean iconic look of the classic characters from the T2-4 era. And why is Law so thiccccc? He's supposed to be Bruce Lee!
PC capture in this video looks way brighter than it should be.
I heard it happens if you capture footage with HDR on
Totally agree that motion blur should be available on consoles! Let’s make sure they know it’s wanted
Motion blur should have a toggle, the animations look absolutely fluid with it on, i dunno why they INSIST on not including it on the console versions.
I thought all console games have motion blur and pc games give the option to turn it off
Because it uses a lot of recources from the GPU and they would have to lower the res, the current gen consoles are starting to show their age, not a surprise they been on the market for a while now.@@coruviel
Great review and it was nice to feel that you really understand the nuances of fighting games. Super impressed. Great review for great game. Looking forward to playing!!!
So nice to see the steam deck settings in the video. Would be awesome if it returned on more video's
Now we just need to remind Namco about Ridge Racer
Riiiidge Racer!!
Soul Caliber 7
yeah it’s like they’e afraid to revisit their own franchise.
if there’s room for Ace Combat 7 then there ought to be room for new Ridge Racer
When John was showing Jin's model at 3:40 there was a second where I thought John's old desk setup was the actual background render in the game.
latency test is so great for these type of games really enjoyed this deep dive
5:00- llama tryin’ to get his screen time
i only played the demo but that ran quite well on Steam Deck, its way more optimized than im used to for new games
Cool vid but something went wrong with either your HDR capture or conversion in some of this footage. It's really blown out. Check out the jukebox selection screen at 3:19 - the cover artwork highlights have gone nuclear.
Hope you guys cover Infinite Wealth as well.
What a boring video that would be and for only around 70k views it would get wouldn’t be worth it for them
Forgot The muscle physics its insane when character do heavy moves or powercrash or electric they're body change veins pop out muscle tightening up skin colour change
This game is so great, have already played it over 10 hours since releae, I highly suggest you buy it.
12:37 damn that transmission from Lee to Jin was so smooth, awesome.
Loving the steam deck recommendation segment hope you include the steam deck more going forward.
I played this on my series x day one for hours and I was just amazed at the visuals! I know my xbox was working overtime cause that air coming off the top was hot hot! 🔥
Was so hyped for this game..and reading this video title is so satisfying!
This video took a lot of work. I'm super impressed. Amazing work.
So there is no option to disable TAA? Very disappointing.
wow, that intro-logo animation! :D shoutouts to whomever did the gfx for this.
Yeah sounds like AMD driver issues
Awesome vid, John, thank you for that. Wanted info on upscaling prefernces and got it. And having Noodalls do the latency comparison - perfect!
Pretty cool to see more Steam Deck comparison with the next gen consoles like this one.
Great job with the analysis and video!, however the proposed steamdeck configurations do not work well on the LCD version.
20:27 one hell of a PECKed game
I can't wait to get this game for m6 Xbox Series S
Aside from the high priced dlc content I can't get enough of this game .
Haven't seen any $20 skins yet.
Had no idea about the TSR AA. I was using the TAAU on pc demo and felt like something was off so hopefully the TSR will resolve that. Will give it a go later!! Edit: tried it out and yep TSR is a night and day diff.. looks soOoo good. Vastly superior! Thanks guys
Can you share your other settings that you have with TSR? Like what do you have for background effect, etc.
@@b-41subject57 I have a gsync monitor which I why I have vsync off
For me vsync off and everything else is set to ultra with 100 resolution scale.
Impressive the Deck can even hit 60 in this game at all.
Amazing review, John. I’m also curious about why they haven’t added the motion blur option for consoles. Maybe they'll add it in future patches?
Update Sep 2024: They haven't.
Sweet! Will be picking it up on Series X instead my PS5. Thanks for the detailed video as always.❤
really appreciate the inclusion of the steam deck. good to know its playable and the required settings for a smooth 60fps
Great to see Series X getting what looks to be the best console version. Tekken 7 got absolutely shafted on Xbox One.
Ahhh yes glad the smallest console base even within its own family of consoles has a zoomed in resolution benefit of 100-200p at best, really makes up for the shafting.
Yet has all the games you ponie warriors wanna play 😂😂😂@spenny2cents
It's the same dude with the PS5 version.
Whatever very slight difference exists in dynamic resolution won't be noticeable for 99% of the gamers.
John mentions that.
plays amazing, streamed it for 10 hrs yesterday
Yo, what's going on with the gamma levels in that footage of the Windows version? It's completely blown out.
HDR capture
Yep, pc all the way for anyone asking which is the best here overall I quite agree.
Love the inclusion on all the OST playable to one’s heart content.
Bandai Namco did gr8 here. Def a step up compared to its main rival Capcom imho
Steam Deck users beware - Namco in their infinite wisdom decided to keep graphical settings in the cloud. So, you'll have to manually update settings each time you switch between PC and Steam Deck. Very annoying.
Let me just say, its so cool to see a game that just gives you all the options for resolution scaling. This deserves a big shoutout i.m.o.
Why are you not calling out developers for not including taa off?
i Think that fight from the reveal trailer might look a bit more dramatic in the story mode. also, as soon as i saw the amount of upscaling options, i knew df would have a blast analysing all of them😭😭
i recommend setting effects to low while other settings to high. The effects just add flying rocks, mist and particle effects just clutter the screen. When low, it boosts performance as well.
And for someone like me they are a huge distraction as well. Now if they served any gameplay purpose I wouldn't dispense with those.
I recommend putting everything on max.
Thank you so much for the input lag measurement~!!!
Thanks for the detailed analysis as usual John, just one thing regarding arcade sticks, any stick that works on PS4 and PC also works on PS5 seamlessly without adapters or anything extra.
