- Naughty Dog brings The Last of Us Part 2 over to PlayStation 5 with a native app, extra modes, graphics upgrades and a wealth of behind-the-scenes materials. But with the PS4 Pro version already upgraded for PS5 with a 60fps, just how much of an upgrade are owners of the original game getting - and is the extra $10 asking price worth it? Resident TLOU expert, Oliver Mackenzie, has all the answers.

I think calling these visual upgrades a remaster is somewhat generous
Directors cut is the right label
More like an understatement. This is such a well-delivered package. It's crazy
It is a remaster tho, I think people get confuse. Remasters, or when you change the games, visuals and add content, but without changing any of the code remakes are when you completely remake the game from the ground up.
It has been re-mastered, in other words, mastered/(compiled is the word we use for code) again. It fits the technical definition perfectly, yet not the colloquial definition.
Original game still holds up visually. 10$ upgrade path for native PS5 version with new content and better draw distance, better anisotropic filtering and a few other tweaks is very reasonable price.
I can’t help but agree with what John Linneman said: they should’ve called this a Director’s Cut like what Ghost of Tsushima got because it’s very similar. They gave us some additional content, PS5 haptic support, and slight visual enhancements. Calling this a remaster is really overselling what this game is.
Yeah, and in 4 years there will be a remastered remaster for ps6.
$49.99 is a bit steep but you'll probably get it at $24.99 before long or on sales. It's ok I guess.
@@usul573 I hear it's a $10 upgrade if you already own the game so...
@@usul573 the main point of this is the PS5 version is full price, but if you upgrade from the PS4 version it's $10. Why do I mention Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut? It's the exact same deal. Very slight graphics improvements, haptic implementation, and some new stuff (Japanese lip syncing for Ghost of Tsushima, and TLOUp2's additions are even more significant.)
Yeah.. that's why it's a 10$ upgrade. They know what they're doing.

Pretty much what I expected. Can hardly tell any difference. It does speak volumes for what they truly achieved ps4 for sure.
Or it also speaks volumes about how lazy this remaster is, basically could've been a free update

It's the high res dirt texture that does it for me....I like staring at the floor for hours on end.
No, they cancelled it because it would have taken away resources from the single player games they typically work on. Live Service requires a dedicated team and Naughty Dog would have rather been all hands on deck for whatever their next single player game is.@@Robkots

The "No Return" game mode could have been an amazing couch co-op experience. PS5 should be able to handle split-screen quite well for this game, but sadly that isn't a thing anymore

Baldur's Gate 3 does splitscreen co-op pretty well, but it's indeed (and sadly) not common anymore.

@@ShrimplessScampi I said specifically for modern gaming which we all know it is. Thankfully Steam holds it together somewhat but even Valve are dropping the ball in some aspects.
So basically you have to play with 4x zoom all the time to even notice any difference
I was disappointed with the visual modes until you reached the VRR support section. It's always amazing when developers support this, now I can either play at 1440p 75-100fps or 4K 40-60fps. Rather than just a locked 1440p60 on the updated build.
They could do this with the old ps4 version but why not charge more?
@@WreckerALeX it can only be done on a PS5 native version, no PS4 native game updated for PS5 has had LFC to my knowledge, which is essential for the 4K VRR mode at least. Maybe a toggle on the PS4 version to unlock the framerate is the most they could do (at 1440p). Still, this upgrade also has additional modes, so the $10 are for the extra content.
You're right. For me personally, a quality mode with native 4k + 120hz is something I would like in every PS5 game. However, I regret one thing: why this mode in TLOU Part 1 is not as smooth as here. They could release a patch for part one.
VRR implementation on the PS5 is as lazy and lacklustre as this "remaster" though, and only works over 48 fps. That means you're going to notice lot of stuttering and frame drops in the uncapped 40 fps 120hz mode.
@@FEWGEE1I’ve played part 1 on fidelity unlocked and it has never stuttered only w few frame drops
The shot to Ellie at 4:27 basically shows that they replaced the render they did for the base game of the ending scene of Part 1 with how the PS5 remake of Part 1 does it.
If you play both PS5 games back-to-back, it’s probably for the sake of consistency.

The visual enhancements really should be free considering how tiny they are.
If they are that tiny, keep your original game and stop whining. The devs did a hell of a lot more work than $10 worth.

Don't support these practices where adding 10 more blades of grass or increasing resolution by 1% needs to be sold at 10$
TLOU from PS3 to PS4: 4x more resolution on Textures, better shadows, from native 720P to 1080P, double the framerate, better everything.
TLOU2 from PS4 to PS5: More grass.
😂
Also better dirt!!
More grass you say? I was also skeptical about this Remastered, but after running the game in Fidelity mode with 120Hz and VRR... WOW, the old PS4 version hides

@@MichaelNaeOfficial I mean the version of TLOU 2 with the patch FOR PS5, i.e. 1440p with 60 fps
Im curious how you didnt comment on the low frame rate fire effects used in some areas? I noticed it on my 60fps play through where some fire assets are obviously baked in at a lower frame rate. I thought they would at least update those for the ps5 version, but i noticed the same choppy fire at 09:15
Pretty sure this is happening when using Unlocked framerate feature.
Bruh, the remaster ain't about updates. It's about handing your money over to Naughty Dog.
@@ericstaples7220you’ll get your mind blown when you learn that every game is all about getting money to its developers.
Besides if this was truly a cynical cash grab they wouldn’t have given us PS4 owners a path to upgrade for just $10 which this remaster is very much worth it. I wouldn’t recommend paying $50 for returning players like me but $10? More than reasonable!
*I wish Rockstar would offer a patch for RDR2* since I still haven't played while waiting for the 60fps mode (which apparently it can handle pretty well)
Naughty added a free update and for $10, they have added so much more content, small fixes, and even the audio haptic feedback. And TLOU2 is 3.5 years old while RDR2 is 5 years old.

Sony needs to just do what Microsoft did and start providing an FPS boost mode for PS4 games across the board, if rockstar isn’t gonna patch RDR2
@@ReLapseJunkie I don't like Sony either but what's wrong with wanting to use your console to its fullest potential?

@@ReLapseJunkieI no no wanna :(
Not much of a graphical or technical upgrade. The game is still incredibly gorgeous across PS4 & PS5. However, that $10 upgrade is primarily justified by the new No Return survival mode, Lost Levels, & Developer Commentary.
Agree with everything you said.
Yea, It's kind of hard to argue with more levels and a game mode for pocket change. It kind of reminds me of the Xbox 360 days. Back then, DLC was dirt cheap. Now, it's more expensive than the game itself sometimes
Yeah thats pretty reasonable. Only thing i think that could have been handled better is MSRP if you dont own the Ps4 version. $50 is a lot considering TLOU2 Ps4 has been less than $20 for a while now
Sony has been pricing their remasters/remakes this gen pretty high at launch, likely bc Nintendo did it too. Unfortunate, especially since the prices have been staying relatively high for many of these games 2-3 years later
And Dualsense haptic's.

I mean it's heavy use of baked lighting is the reason why. When you don't have to spend a ton of time on calculating your lighting and leaving it precalculated it frees up a lot of resources to be used on other elements like geometry and foliage
@@crestofhonor2349 It's not just the baked lightning. The geometry of characters, the animation, etc. It's really insane. The only thing that makes Alan Wake 2 look better in places is the lightning (due to ray tracing, path tracing, etc). However, once Naughtydog makes a truly current gen game, it'll blow people's mind.
@@awsomeboy360 That's why I said using baked lighting freed up resources to be used on other assets instead of spending a ton of rendering time calculating more real time lighting sources
@@crestofhonor2349 That's such a weird statement to say because Ray Tracing was barely in any games last gen. There was no ray tracing Ps4 games. So saying 'by them not using Ray Tracing it freed up space' is such a weird statement to say because there wasn't any intention to implement Ray Tracing for Last of Us Part 2 to begin with (or that the practice was even that huge back then). Despite this, Last of Us part 2 looks great even outside of lightning.
@@awsomeboy360 The statement had nothing to do with ray tracing though as rasterization still is real time lighting. Ray tracing was only less common due to the fact that only Nvidia cards could do ray tracing from 2018 to 2020. Shadow maps, Ambient occlusion, and other rasterized effects are still real time lighting. As I said, baked lighting frees up resources because it's precalculated.
Typically baked lighting is calculated using ray tracing, typically at a low resolution as light maps can be quite storage heavy
I love this game, but the difference is so minimal I cant believe they are charging for this especially when GOW Ragnorok released Valhalla dlc for FREE!
If you upgrade to the PS5 version of GOWR from the PS4 version you still have to pay $10 tho, so this is essentially the same thing here

field of vew was adjustable in the original as well
But now you can adjust even further from 5+ to 10+ now
What i believe happened here is that devs at Naughty Dog knew that sooner or later the massive multiplayer project will not pan out as intended, and hence were forced by the studio to release atleast something to keep the brand image afloat while they put all their (newly freed) resources on an un-announced IP. This update/re-release feels like an attempt to keep fans pleased till some new project reaches the final stage.
If anything let this be a lesson for the executives at playstation studios, that these super talented single player devs shouldn't be forced into making a cash grab, they literally bought bungie for that, so make use of its resources

The last of us already has more remakes and remasters than actual games. It's not enough to just be a slight difference when so many of its peers release similar upgrades for free.
If it was full price I'd agree, but 10 dollars is a bargain. This is also an industry changer in terms of giving us "Cut content" to actually play, I'd love to see that more in Remasters/Directors Cuts ect
@@traviscue2099 Lego star wars did it decades ago. I get that it may be worth it for some, but in the same way that a full $70 game might be. It's certainly no bargain.

@@existentialselkath1264 10 dollars is 10 dollars, its very cheap for what you're getting. Its basically a free upgrade.
It's subtle, and may just be a result of the remaster being darker overall, but to my eye there seems to be a little less inappropriate light bleed on at least on primary character assets in areas like under the arms, hair, between the thighs, and in the folds of clothing. It's the kind of improvement I normally associate with bent normals or some kind of tracing solution, but might also just be some kind of granularity bump to whatever system they were using before.

Digital Foundry in a nutshell.
You guys always do such a great job at providing technical analyses of video games, while giving us a balanced look at current trends. 😊
Big problem of original Tlou2 - lot places where Shadows just turned OFF, must places in Serafits levels, like Garage and Shop (from E3 trailer).
Also very small draw distance for Serafits models and their clothes.
I played the original on a base PS4 on a 1080p TV and it looks and plays amazing. I now have a PS5 and a larger 4k TV and I worry I won't be able to tell a difference with the new version besides 60 fps. I never did try the PS4 version on the PS5.
Naughty dog: Improved shadows!
Digital Foundry: We did find a swinging crate
Great video as usual, but one small feedback- the graphics modes description is a bit confusing to be honest. It makes perfect sense after watching the whole video, but it really was confusing as all the modes were introduced without real structure. Would've been great to get an introduction table at the start of the graphics section.
Yeah agreed - Ollie is usually extremely good at structuring content. Explaining the modes upfront would have helped a bit as I just assumed it would have a fidelity and performance mode but it has 40fps and unlocked modes as well.
Unlocked 40FPS mode wasn't clear what Res it's running - he said "it's same visuals to their 60fps counterparts". What doe that mean?
@gkork6 it means it's 1440p
@@gkork6The Fidelity 4k mode can run at 40fps+ on a 120hz screen. The Performance 1440p mode can run at 60fps+ on a 120hz screen. The “visuals” he’s referring to is that there’s no difference in the graphics settings between and of the modes. The only differences are resolution and framerate.
@@mattjudy6780 So how come unlocked Fidelity and Performance modes run different framerates if both are 1440P? Virtually no other GFX differences only res.

This feels like more of a director's cut of the game than a remaster. The extra content isn't bad, and considering they're allowing people to "upgrade" for $10 is nice for that extra content, but calling it a remaster is a stretch. They could have just either relabeled it to The Last of Us Part II director's cut or just straight up made the extra content paid DLC. The PS5 backwards compatible version of PS4 looked great and ran at 60fps. I'd literally need a magnifying glass to see any visual differences.
the elli model is identical, in the first shot the camera is just zoomed out and the FOV lowered compared to the original shot, giving her face a different look, even though its the same model.
This should be for free after Factions got cancelled.
Lets also not forget that Factions was also removed on part 1 Remake, which makes part 1 technically less of a package than even the original release.
I only have one question- when I played TLOU pt 1 on my ps5 and LGC2 (55 inch) - I loved the look of fidelity 4K but it induced this horrific motion blur that was not adjustable like the blur in the blur settings. It made the game unplayable in this mode. Even with VRR / 120hz in my OLED. Does this fidelity mode also have this issue????
turn off "motion smoothing" or whatever it's called on your tv settings, then also check for a game mode in the tv, and then I would try turning off motion blur setting in the game. but I really recommend just playing performance mode on any game that has it, whatever detail in graphics that is lost is more than made up for in the clarity of 60fps
I have a C1 and just beat part 1 in fidelity with VRR again before this release, had it running in game mode and had no issues visually it’s recommend playing hdr games in game mode setting and sdr games in standard vivid mode since that’s what I use on my ps4 pro with smooth motion on to help 30 fps games feel more like 60
@@randomradonymous by motion smoothing do you mean the clarity / fps mode - like the movie 24fps vs the “natural” 60? That’s always set to off anyway when my game mode is on - which it is. I also already have the in game blue settings on zero. This does nothing. Is it an issue in the new game? I know it isn’t tv related since another person had a Sony a80k and same issues
@@EternalNightingale I do play in game mode - but fidelity is not 60 in tlou pt 1 so by your logic wouldn’t playing in sdr be better? Anyway that’s not my issue - the issue is the intense motion blurring effect when the camera is panned in fidelity mode - it’s not related to the tv settings at all. You don’t notice this compared with performance mode?? Thanks for replying
Regarding Ambient Occlusion (6:31), maybe the increase in resolution makes the game render more foliage on top of the AO of the foliage behing thus making the image looking like it lacks depth when in reality, there's just more things rendered in front of the AO, blocking the shadowy effect. This is a phenomenon similar to what appens in GTA V regarding anti-aliasing: when using MSAA, the game makes the grass look kind of transparent, which makes it look like it lacks some detail compared to classic FXAA ; the explanation lies in the fact that it just renders too many samples and just can't show them, making it look transparent on anything below 4K.
Why absolutely NOTHING happens with Bloodborne since it's launch but we get stuff like this instead?!
Because The Last of Us is a flagship PS franchise. Bloodborne is not.
@@strykah92 yeah but it sold very well, has glowing reviews and it's in desperate need of moving over to a platform where it will run at a higher framerate.
Ideally PC in my case since I'm never getting a PS5
@@JAM92 I know it did, but it's still quite a long way away from Sony's top performers and it's not exactly baffling that they tend to be the ones that take priority.
As far as any sort of patch/upgrade/port for Bloodborne specifically, my best guess (and this is just my own speculation) is that they need FromSoft's involvement in some way to make it commercially available and they're not playing ball, which is possibly also why OG Demon's Souls never got a PS4 version and we eventually got the PS5 Bluepoint remake.
This feels more akin to the “Director’s Cut” label that Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding got rather than an actual remaster. But for a $10 upgrade I’m happy to get a few new features.
This is what I'm thinking, I'm pumped to get it either way but having Remastered as the main title rather than deluxe edition or something seems like it's leading their audience to expect something that doesn't really seem to be where their actual priorities were
No this is a remaster as it doesn't contain dlc side story incorporated directly into the game like a Directors cut. You're thinking of a remake like Part 1 got which entails a ground up rebuild/re-render of the graphics, animations, etc. This is the same as the original remaster for TLoU in 2014 which essentially bumped the resolution and frame rate to 1080p/60.
Yeah they also called the (almost unchanged) PS4 version of Part 1 a "remaster", so it's at least consistent. ;)
Each split scene is sharper in the new version. This might come down to a different anti-aliasing method?
40fps mode without changing System Settings would we nice. Thanks for testing that it is working with this work around.

Did they compensate the shutter angle of the motion blur for 60fps in this version? If there is so much headroom, as shown by the unlocked mode, why doesn't the game use DRS? It could deliver noticeably higher resolutions at 60fps.
I just want all this to translate into a decent PC port, unlike Part I. It's incredible what they managed to pull off initially on PS4, and upon reading their Siggraph presentation , some of their shader / material work sounds very impressive & artist-friendly.
I mean, Part I was fundamentally decent in the way that even at release there was hardware that could run it well; it just broke down on weaker systems (to an unacceptable extent, of course). That's very different to say Jedi Survivor, that still doesn't run well even on the best hardware available.

I think the biggest reason for all the negativity and complaints is the "Remastered" in the title. This is an enhanced PS5 port with extra content, no remaster. @@ibrohiem why should it be free? there is additional content and new modes, support for unlocked framerates, better level of detail and an option for 4k. It shouldn't be called a remaster, sure, but if this was DLC, or a directors cut, or ultimate edition, sure a $10 fee is perfectly reasonable. Naughty Dog doesn't owe you free content, lol.
I bet the developers had an easy day in the office “remastering” this one.
Yep. Min effort for lots of financial gain due to the PS5 fanbois that will buy the same Naughty Dog game three times in a row.
It’s not a Remake, isn’t advertised as one and for the extra money you also get extra content.
you mean remastering? I swear the amount of people confusing remastering to remaking is insane
I bet the developers are underpaid and overworked, all the profit from this remaster will just go to the top.
@@earljohnson8486 sorry sorry... "Remaster"
Ok so the visuals are the same.
Please say if the haptic controls are like those on Part 1 now? I really liked the trigger feel of the revolver in part 1. For me that would be worth the $10 plus the faster loading times.
For a game almost 3 years old, hitting the abandoned software mark with old tech and all, it is still holding up the test of time.
They are legit asking money from their customer base for providing high settings instead of medium.
I’m really thankful for DF’s deep dive on this title. I’m really torn…sure it’s $10USD, however it still feels like a money grab to me. It’s a title that’s been lightly reworked, in the sense of noticeable changes for end users - not remastered.
It’s a pure cash grab nothing more. As you say it’s only £10 but it’s the principle. They’ll do this more and more if people pay that money.
For me … they can kiss my arse.. this is a piss take and I’m not interested in this franchise getting milked.
I’m not being part of the problem
I want new games ffs
It gives you access to PS5 things like high frame rates and VRR, it's worth it if you have a modern top TV. Ignore the other guy, an Xbox shill with its cute Gears of War videos on his channel lol
They did add that rougelike game mode and 3 sections. Take that for what it is, but it may be worth $10
Don’t buy it then.
The visuals look the same, but the rogue like is worth 10 for me.
The main draw here definitely isn't the visual improvement. It's the dualsense haptics and the additional roguelike mode for me. Definitely worth the $10 considering it's more than a visual upgrade.
"They're the same picture" - Beesly, Pam
I think they are using this to plug a financial hole after the multiplayer collapse. I couldn't tell what was different from the free upgrade before this video. After the video I feel none the wiser as to why I should spend a tenner, for a horde mode I won't play, some unfinished levels and some commentary. This is the Emperors new clothes of remasters.
I think you’re 100% correct.
They could have easily patched the existing ps5 patch with this and included the extras.
$10 LOD mod for the win 🥳
To this day I still believe this game should have never existed. The first game was lightning in a bottle. That story deserved to stand on it's own.
It's an odd way to access the 40fps mode. The in-game menu doesn't offer much clarification.
Kind of a bummer the textures and shadows were not improved even more. Looks overall like a cash and grab extra fan service after the planned standalone online mode got cancelled. Upgrading for 10 € is ok for me - I guess.
Should've been called directors cut instead of remastered. Still, as someone who only recently got their first playstation, I'm happy that this is the version that'll be my first TLoU2 playthrough.
An upgrade to RT shadows would have been very nice
After playing TLOU P2 when it came out, I'd argue that it never needed to be made in the first place, let alone the remaster.
Could have been a patch. A free patch...
It's a separate native version. It could have been a free upgrade but not a free patch. Although it does have new content in it.
there was a field of view slider on the ps4 version too
I think I'll sit and play thru this one now.. I got it when it first came out but was done after the golf mini game
Ps4 version on ps5 was alright glad we get 60fps but I would love to see remaster like Killzone, Motorstorm & Resistance trilogy’s
I'd kill for a new Motorstorm in HDR...my tv was so shitty back in the day that I couldn't even see during some of the night races lol. Agreed, Killzone and Resistance were amazing IPs. 👍
Yeah, I'll definitely be playing fidelity mode with 40fps. That field of view adjustment is probably my favorite and most wanted addition.
Field of view was already adjustable in the PS4 version, just hidden under the accessibility/motion sickness menu
Granted, it looks like you can now adjust it more extensively than before, which is nice.
@@SamuliKauppila Damn I must have missed it then. I definitely didn't see it. They need to add it to Uncharted 4 as well.
So what do we have to do again? Switch vrr to automatic or some shiz? Complicated.
Why bother with fidelity mode when they’ve just showed there’s literally no difference to performance mode?
@@ocat1979 Obviously you weren't paying attention. Fidelity is native 4k. Performance mode is 1440p.
Online co-op No Return mode would have been awesome, but I can't wait as I am 200 hours into the game many playthroughs and TLOU2 might be one of my all-time fav games, so no issue shelling out $10 to Sony and ND.
If you want to fight hordes, try Days Gone. The 60fps patch on ps5 is excellent.
@miketexas4549 I love Dayz Gone. I was talking about TLOU2 not DG.
@@hiawa23 Yeah I know. I was suggesting DG as an alternative for fighting hordes if you'd never experienced it.
@miketexas4549 I get why you would make the suggestion, but my point was to be able to play TLOU2 characters and universe in online co-op.
@@hiawa23 yeah I was specifically commenting on your words "horde mode would have been awesome," not your seperate wish of "coop in rogue mode."
I don't really care if only FPS or resolution gets adjustments. I wish we saw more creativity with games & what "extra" stuff they do with games. We used to have over the top sports games, wacky action adventure games, hack & slash (that ISN'T a souls like game) i just wish we could get some games that tap into the way PS2-360 games used to be before things were built around the Internet. So we got a range of game modes, offline gameplay against CPU bots, cheat codes, etc.
For real. Sony used to provide those things I feel until Naughty Dog made uncharted. Then that style of game just became the brand as a whole.
lol what is a "CPU bot"?
Me: So did you double the framerate target like TLOU 1 Remastered on PS4? The PS5 supports 120 FPS-
ND: No.
Me: RT modes? Performance RT? RT audio?
ND: No.
Me: Any other rendering/physics/AI improvements? More polygons? Real time illumination? Mesh shading?
ND: No.
Me: GPU based decompression or I/O coprocessor optimisations?
ND: No.
Me: So what did you add?
ND: A roguelike mode that could fit in the original PS4.
Me:......
I'd probably say you were being condescending if I didn't agree with absolutely everything you said.
@@flannelsykes0 it's a bad sign that sarcasm and condescension are no longer required in expressing disappointment. I genuinely wanted to be wrong about this being a Director's Cut disguised as a Remaster.
"The Lost Levels DLC" would be a much more exciting name for this project, giving us some Crash Bandicoot nostalgia!
We can clearly see from the vid that the frame rate cannot go to 120 FPS, but it is basically close to that. Maybe with DRS it woild be possible, but it is understandable.
And idk if implementing ray tracing would be necessary. The game already looks really good, and there aren't many places where ray tracing is needed. It would be hella expensive and could kill the frame rate.
I mean the game's frame rate was doubled over the PS4 version which ran at 30fps
@@crestofhonor2349 I know, but that was on PS5 too. But even the PS5 on Backwards Compatibility dropped frames in some sections. And this is on the same platform, but with native PS5 support, so there is potential for higher frame rates, which is shown in the vid. I think it is quite awesome what they did, bc it is around the level of SM1 Performance RT uncapped mode's performance, and TLOU 2 is way more visually impressive than that game.
Plus, IMO it is unrealistic that we can see a major graphical upgrade, since the PS4 is known for basically being the limit of graphics. This gen is more focused about larger scopes of worlds and more minor visual stuff that isn't too noticable for the average consumer.
IMO this game couldn’t really look any better. It already looks better than 90 percent of games out there. I’ll pay the 10 bucks to be able to play with Joel and Tommy though
Are there Now CONTACT SHADOWS present in teasers of the game before release (PS4) that aren't present on the PS4 version? To me one of the key things I wanted them to work in. Was expecting WAY MORE for a REMASTERED by them (image quality wise), resolution is not everything...but for the price it makes sense, just a missed opportunity I feel.
So, this is what I think. Naughty Dog had not planned to release a remaster of ToU2, not at least at this time since they were working with the multiplayer but when they had to canceled the multiplayer they decided to release this "remaster" with elements that they had already worked on for the multiplayer, such as the customizations of weapons.
Agreed, and it’s a crying shame.
The execs said ‘you better release something !!
I'd rather them do that, and put more effort into The Last of Us Part III - than worry about multiplayer right now. Finish the trilogy (if that's what it is) and then make an awesome multiplayer title set in that world at that point.
They announced a directors cut a little over a year ago. They just changed the name
2 teams. How can they slow the main TLOU team from the multiplayer team. Stop bullshitting
Ah ok, almost 4 years now, dozens of hours with my psychologist, I think I'm ready to replay it.
Naughty Dog's next game: The Last of Us 1 Remake Remastered, then The Last of Us 2 Remastered Remake
What about a power draw comparison between the original vs the remastered?
Pro tip:
Game on Quality mode + De-Judder 10/10 on high end 2020-2024++ TVs.
Pure Motion Clarity bliss !!!!
Honestly the lights in the remastered version looks a little bit brighter but that is all. This upgrade only worth if you wanna play No Return imo
There was always a FOV option notably under the settings “motion sickness” however if it’s a expanded version of it then aight
The only way I'd buy this again is if they went back and remade the game with a different story line.
Can someone make sure I understand correctly? If the game's resolution is native 4k, then turning on 120Hz or VRR does not reduce it, right? However, if the game has a resolution specified as dynamic, then turning on 120Hz or VRR reduces it depending on the options enabled, right?
I love TLOU but I'm disappointed that they want $10 for the upgrade if you already own it on PS4.
On the other hand, Capcom released RE2R AND RE3R with PS5 upgrades for free if you already own the PS4 version.
I get naughty dogs thinking but I wonder what went into it... did they rewrite code or basically just change graphics settings and change the buffer frequency for loading times.
Either way I want the remaster so I gotta come up with $10.
I don’t like the DualSense so I rather choose PS4 version, except for the new content I would like to try.
The horse riding vibration felt really bad on Sense compared to DS4.
RE2 and 3 remake runs better locked 60fps on PS4 version too on PS5.
Thanks for this i was about to drop £10 on the upgrade when released 😅
So from your comment, you won't be now?
@@andypandy4607of course not .
@@KaneK1234missing out on an awesome game mode. Added at least another 15 hours of gameplay for me.
Why are you pretending the slight visual upgrade is what the ten dollars is for? The meat of the price is the new content, not visual upgrades.
I never finished the first one and I happen to have a PS5 now, so I'm probably going to come back to it if I can figure out the controls again easily enough without having to start all the way over.
Its honestly so good that i would call it a remake, like they need to sell this for 70$ imo.
Calling it a remaster is joke.
Surely you jest
I Love this Game, another PLAYTROUGH incoming 👌
So foliage is better and draw distance is improved but other than that minimal visual updates?
Kind of a let down BUT a new mode & slight improvements for only 10 bucks is still cool
4k/40fps mode & almost no loading times is a win tho
Here’s hoping we don’t hear from Naughty Dog until they’re releasing a NEW game
Only $10? This paltry amount of updates should be free.
Very cool coverage! Just love you guys, personally I have no interest in playing through TLOU2 again. Between working in retail in the pandemic at the time and going through a nasty break up it was a very dark toxic combo to mix binge playing TLOU2 in lol.
And it's a long game that you need to want to play again. Like you, I'm not that interested
Wasn't the ps4 version on ps5 ,running at 1080p native that was upscaled to 1440p, while the default ps5 performance mode is1440p native?
Basically just uncapped frame rate and vrr support and more native 4k options.
And they retooled some of the lighting and reframed some shots and did some slight tweaks to the character models for certain scenes.
And they threw in a new game mode and gave us some cut content. Sounds like an alright package.
I can agree with the comments criticising the use of the word *remastered* to describe the release, when it looks largely similar to the original game (post-PS5 patch)... but it already looked fantastic.
Without the additions it would have been harder to justify at full-price, but with those and a £/$10 upgrade for it, it's a no-brainer for me.
Looking at this, I wonder if DF will ever make a video talking entirely about fire rendering, how it has and hasn't really improved that much in 10-20 years.
Have been playing on 4K fidelity VRR and I find the 40fps super smooth. I wish more games offered this option. Spider-Man 2 was also amazing in VRR fidelity.
