    Brilliant job, the best one of these I've seen, many thanks for posting this video. I love the overhang around the inner edge of the false ceiling surround, most of the DIY builds I've seen don't do this, but it seems important to me as a way of hiding the LED strip as well as increasing the effect of the starfield being way up in the distance beyond the ceiling. Can I ask, where is the LED strip mounted - is it on the horizontal or vertical? Thanks again, this video's been extremely useful as I'm going to begin my own attempt at this next month.

      Thanks so much for your positive feedback and message. It was a pleasure to read and I greatly appreciate it.
      The LED strip is mounted on the horizontal part and points light straight up, so only ceiling edges would appear to be washed out and not the whole star ceiling.
      I hope it helps and good luck with your project!
      Do not hesitate to get in touch if you will have further questions along the way.

      @@DIY_it_ALL Thanks so much for your reply, very helpful: I'd been trying to visualise where the best placement for the LED strip was - and yours works perfectly, so I'll go with a horizontal mount. I've seen several of these starfield DIYs where there's no lowered outer surround, rather the whole starfield is contained in a "dropped box" which, to my eyes, 100% misses the point of what makes these look so good. Thanks again, yours is the video that's fully inspired me (i.e. yours is the build I'm going to copy!) Cheers, keep yourself safe and healthy, all the best.

    Loved your video. A job well done! Can you guide on how you connected 15 m of addressable led strip. I mean addressable led strip are only available in 5m rolls. Can you possibly make a tutorial on connecting 15m led addressable strip as a single strip project

    • @DIY_it_ALL
      @DIY_it_ALL  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Monis,
      Thanks so much for your kind comments.
      You are absolutely right, addressable LED's do come in 5m lengths. But it is very easy to join them by soldering strips together or just using small wires to join them (like any other LED strip).
      The strip can be as long as you want it to be, but the key here is to maintain voltage throughout the strip and ensure it does not drop below required levels. Try searching 'addressable LED power injection' or 'addressable LED voltage drop' on TH-cam and you should find some tutorials.
      I might do LED strip tutorial video in the future, but my focus now is on the new project I am working on - bedroom with projector and cinema surround sound system all mounted within the ceiling. Projector will come down and go back up into the ceiling whilst using a remote control.
      Feel free to subscribe to my channel and keep an eye on my videos.

      Bulkhead is 250mm high, recessed depth is 500mm and height is 150mm.
      Painting over fibre optic strands is fine, they shine through with no issues. Though I did leave them sticking out by around 3mm, in case I would need to trim them in future after more layers of paint are applied. Good luck with your project!

    Hi once again lol, another question for you if you don’t mind 🙈 1) on the main plaster boards with the star lights in them I can see that they don’t fully go to the edge (as there is still a gap around the outside, how did you cover this gap. Did you just cut some more plaster board (without stars) or did you just use a filler in the space. (The space I am talking about is basically where the led strips shine around the edge. 2) in the clip where you had all the fibres hanging down once the ceiling was up, what did you do at the point to hide them etc as I couldn’t see this in the video. Thank you so much for your time

    • @DIY_it_ALL
      @DIY_it_ALL  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Adam,
      Thanks for your question.
      On one side of the ceiling I used the same plasterboard sheet and deliberately left 200mm off the edge empty (no fibre optic strands). But on the other side (where my light source was) I used a separate piece of plasterboard with no strands, which was around 200mm, to fill the remainder of the ceiling. So in the end all edges of the ceiling had around 200mm off the wall with no stars. This is so that LED light and stars would not clash.
      Hope it makes sense and helps.
      Good luck!

    Fantastic job.. like a few others I'm trying to replicate it, I've a slightly larger room with a similar 240cm ceiling height. I've read and reread the comments below and even resorted to measuring my computer screen and comparing your 4" roller to get measurments. Adding mesurements to the sketch up plan would have been ideal. The drop looks 200mm (you've mentioned a few heights below) with a 60-70mm lip (2x2 plus plaster board and edge) this leaves the gap to original ceiling from lip @ 130-140mm.
    No plaster board on the vertical edge of the lip, just the plasterboard edge bead?

    Amazing!! I really want to add it to my home. But I am worried about its durability. Do you have any idea about its life??

      Hi Thomas,
      Thanks for your comment.
      LED's last much longer than standard incandescent or fluorescent bulbs, so durability would be the last thing I would worry about. Also, I personally left an access hatch to drivers and electrics, so that in case something goes wrong I will be able to access it and replace the faulty part.
      Hope it helps.

    This is the best ceiling design I have seen ever. Can you please educate me about lights. May I ask from where you procured these lights?

      Thanks so much!
      I bought all lights from China, but I'm sure you can get them anywhere in the world - SK6812 strip, SP108E controller, 30W driver and 400 fibre led starlight set.

    How do you paint the ceiling without painting over the LEDs/fiber/pinholes? I don't get it - it looked like you rollered right over them, but how does that not cover them with paint?

      It is ok to paint over fibres, they shine through absolutely fine (I did two coats of white vinyl matt paint).
      However I also left them sticking out about 3mm for future painting. When they will no longer shine through, I will cut ends by about a millimeter to expose fresh unpainted fibre ends.
      Hope it makes sense.
