  • The new loader gets some much needed TLC. We replace the low pressure fuel regulator with help from our friends at @AreaDieselService and do a little grinding and welding as well.

    It seems like all of my favorite YT creators owe Area Diesel Service a case of beer for all the free tech support. Sounds like a great company and good people to know.

      How do you know ADS?
      I only know them from the ytchannels they cooperate with.
      So that's pretty good advertisement for ADS, don't you think?
      And that's worth something too...

    Sam, I'm gonna say the same thing I said to Matt at Diesel Creek some time ago; I, for one, appreciate that you don't edit out your mistakes! It shows us that we all flub things up every now & then. I also liked the fact that you can laugh at yourself afterward. Very glad you got the issues straightened out & look forward to watching whatever comes next.

    Used to work on these, worth changing the axle oils, if they’re higher than the fill plug before draining it’s a good indication the brake pistons o-ring seals are bypassing hydraulic oil into the axle housing. There are also brake wear indicator pins on each final drive to check for excessive brake disc wear during a service.

    Just a note about maintenance. I managed a fleet of over the road trucks for a bunch of years. Our policy was whenever a truck came into the shop
    for any maintenance that involved and interaction with belts, my mechanics had standing instructions to replace them all, regardless of condition. Hoses, same.
    It is cheap insurance. I would rather replace a belt in my shop than 1,000 miles from home on the side of the road. That Volvo was begging
    you to change the belts while you had access and it was in your shop, not out on a jobsite. Belts and hoses are cheap compared to
    a $1,000.00 service call or a lost day's production. Plan your work, work your plan.

    Even though we have an L90E (same Deutz engine and drivetrain as L90F) among our loaders, other than comfort it just never will beat the old pure 90's and 90B's. An entirely mechanical machine is just incomparable to today's electronic nightmares.

    On the fuel filter housing water can leak into the fuel. just above the fuel filter water passes through the back of that housing but I’ve seen a few create a small crack in the wall between them which makes them mix, they can crack if the filter gets pulled too much when removing it

    Had a 5.4 ford van do that to that to me, it sat for more than 5 min it lost all prime, would almost never start first try, have to prime it at least twice. I replaced a ton of things on that thing as it never spit a code or anything, Turned out after months of playing with it, it was the fuel pump, changed it never had the problem again. I hate problems thats not always obvious lol

    On newer F-series with deutz engines there is a extra check valve mounted btw rail return and it's hose. Just a ad on piece and solves often the problem with long cranks on these slightly older ones. I can't help you with the partnumber right now. If you need it just let me know.

    A little tip, if you use it heavily, put the exhaust muffler outside or completely away, as this creates enormous heat build-up in the engine compartment, which causes all the seals to harden.

  • @tiredoldmechanic1791
    @tiredoldmechanic1791 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Deutz used a belt drive pump too and they often allowed air into the system. I think there would be fewer problems if they didn't use the pump as a tensioner or build in better bearings if they do.

    Like the oops, especially when its some else’s and I don’t have to clean up the mess, oh my, I have had some EXON VALDES experiences with hydraulic systems though, and man, to me, nothing worse to clean up/off than hydraulic oil, always carried a change of cloths with me on service calls, saved me more than once. Nice job of chasing down the fuel system problem. Thanks for the VOLVO update, appreciate your time and effort on the video.

      Flash those black plastic parts with a propane torch to bring back the color. I haven't seen Hastings filters for quite a while.

    • @michaelovitch
      @michaelovitch 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jaygraham5407If you do that with a torch,you will have stains caused by uneven heating when the plastic degrade again.
      Linseed oil will last longer and coat it very uniformely,it's also cheaper.
