The RTP versions have a strong fan behind the oil cooler which kicks in when the engine temperature reaches a certain level so it has extra cooling for hot days when you get stuck in slow traffic for a long time. This is a great feature, so practically speaking the bike can't really overheat in normal traffic situations. The RT is a nice cool bike on hot days as very little engine heat gets anywhere near your legs. I often ride in shorts in Australian summers with no problem at all.
My rear seat is attached to the metal plate beneath it by two large velcro strips, purchased from an auto-upholstery shop. It is necessary to mount it like this as you may need to access the electrics under the plate someday quickly and easily (the radio-box mounting plate is held on by 4 torx bolts). The velcro allows the pillion seat to simply rip off and to be reattached quickly and easily. This would allow you to refit the radio box simply and easily by fitting the hinge assembly and rear lock, returning it to original condition for resale if need be.
Nice, enjoy. So long as the bike is serviced regularly, it should give you many more kms. Mine is on 173000km now and going nicely. I recommend getting a Haynes workshop manual and doing your own maintenance if you are mechanically minded
Nice idea. I was looking at RTP's wondering what was under the plastic cowling and whether I could build my own seat. You've given me the confidence to try it. I wonder if it would work with a water-cooled RTP?
Hi Mike. I think they would be helpful for slow topple-overs if the pillion stayed with the bike. It might keep their left foot above the exhaust pipe... and prevent a possible burn.
Hello sir my question is how did you tie down those stuff on top of that metal because you actually have to screw down from top of that metal so if I put the letter on top of that how I’m gonna tie it
Hi guys, Is it possible to connect the original BMW radio to Rt police version. I have BMW r1200rt police bike 2011 and have difficulty with connecting the original radio system

Money matters, that's why I got a used police motorbike for cheap! Great idea on the pillion seat. Looks great!
Thanks
YOu can leave the Panniers on and remove the crash bars. The bottom attachment will accept a foot peg.

Quite possibly yes
Good idea.
You sound like Michael Doohan.
I just wonder if keeping the pannier brackets might be dangerous for the pillion passenger in the event of a crash

may try this very very good
Love to chat more about this, as I just bought a VIC RT-P. What did you do with the siren connectors down near the crashbar?
Hi GrumpyOldRider. Don't think I had those when I got the bike. Think the police must have removed that wiring when they auctioned off the bike.

???????
I used two wide velcro strips to keep the seat on the metal plate beneath it. Works well and is removable

Hi Arif. Sorry not sure how to do that. Good luck

You don't need a pillion seat! You need to learn to be self sufficient and not require the acceptance of others.
