Clean & Unclean Foods (Part 2 of 2) - Examining Monte Judah's teaching on the kosher food laws

  • This is part 2 of the most comprehensive Biblical examination we’ve ever done on this channel on why followers of Jesus are not required to eat biblically clean or kosher. We're going to dive deep into the Torah and the Gospels and more, tracing the thread of God’s commands about food. And we’re going to use a video by a Hebrew Roots teacher named Monte Judah as the platform from which we’ll launch various excursions into the text of Scripture. Here in part two, we examine Acts 10, Galatians 2, and Acts 15. We also examine two common Hebrew Roots arguments and address five unbiblical burdens the Mr. Judah needlessly places on the shoulders of believers in Yeshua (Jesus).

Here’s the thing. God created all the days. Just because someone worships God on the first day of the week and once long ago someone else worshiped the sun, it doesn’t mean that that person does too. That logic is from leading questions, not from reality. God made the sun. I don’t avoid the sun or wear sunglasses to shield my eyes from the sun because people worshiped it long ago. I worship God alone. To the pure all things are pure. Walk in the liberty wherewith Christ has made you free.

I second that! It is truly difficult for me to be as gracious as you are, Rob, yet I do feel the pulling and tugging of the Holy Spirit to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. @GoodGodFatherGGF @Iamlainylaine That means a lot to me. Thank you! God is good because I don't feel nearly as patient as you give me credit for. I feel that frustration, too! It must be the Holy Spirit "editing" my raw reactions that allows these videos to come across in a fairly reasonable tone.
I try to think of Hebrew Rooters as people who love God but are in a temporary state of delusion and will one day come to their senses. So my job is not only to make a theological defense against their claims and the damage they are causing in the body of Christ but try to do so "with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame" (1 Peter 3:15-16).

What I have learned is that the best thing that we can do is listen.
It is not so important that somebody disagrees with us. What is more important is understanding the reason why they disagree with us.

The relationship between the people of God in the Old Testament and the people of God in the New Testament is better described in terms of an organic development rather than either separation or replacement. The true Israel of the Old Testament became the nucleus of the true church on the day of Pentecost. @@achristianconvertedtochris5862 I see what your trying to do but no amount of law-keeping was good enough because the problem is the human heart. Jesus went on to illustrate how bankrupt their understanding of the law was by making comparison after comparison (you have heard that it was said. . . but I tell you; Matthew 5:21-22). For example, the Pharisees’ teaching implied that if a man avoided having sex with someone other than his spouse, then he had kept that portion of the law. Jesus, understanding the universality of human lust, filled the law out to the full by pointing out God’s original intention-because adultery is a matter of the heart, people regularly commit this sin through a single moment of lust in the mind.
A careful examination of the remainder of the Sermon on the Mount reveals that virtually every point Jesus made draws a contrast between the pseudo-righteousness of the religious leaders and the true righteousness that God desires. The person who discovers and appropriates true righteousness will manifest the character qualities described in the Beatitudes (Matt 5:3-12) and will impact the world as described in Matt 5:13-16. The Pharisees did not.
Jesus drew attention to the gravity of his foundational premise with the formula, I tell you. He equated himself with the author of Scripture which, of course, he was. Jesus insisted his words bore all the authority of God himself which, of course, he was. Jesus claimed deity for himself.
Jesus was essentially declaring war on the false pharisaical religion. He insisted that no person could be saved by his or her own righteousness. This was something the law intended to indicate all along, but Israel had missed the point (Rom. 2:17-3:31; Gal. 3:17-29; 5:3-6). The point was hard for the self-righteous to swallow-no one, not even the super law-keeping Pharisees, could enter into heaven. All needed a Savior! Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior not Law keeping. Please read the Galatians as well, May Lord God be with you.

Hi, Gerda! Yes, you are correct that Paul was writing to the church in Corinth, which was not part of Israel but in a pagan, gentile area. But even the land of Israel at that time was a province run by the Roman government. So even meat markets within the land of Israel presumably would have included "non kosher" meats.

I wonder if you could please do a teaching (if you haven't already ) on Torah'ism that teaches that it's not a salvation issue, but that we just won't rule with Christ in the millennial kingdom because it's only those who obey ALL His commandments, which hooked me.
And on another note I noticed the word says that in the new millenium only the feast of Tabernacles will be required which seems intriguing and that animal sacrifice will be reinstated which blows my mind 😮. Any thoughts on that?

@@brucepayton6322 Hey, Bruce! There are three significant problems with the idea that Peter’s vision in Acts 10 was only about Gentiles and had nothing to do with food. First, the vision was _literally about food._ Jesus told Peter to eat the animals. Second, on what basis are we willing to allow for a change on the issue of people but not food? That’s completely arbitrary. Third, if the vision of the food was solely intended as a metaphor for the Gentiles, then Jesus was using a false analogy. He essentially said, “Look, I know in this vision I’m telling you that all food is now clean, but that’s not true. It’s just an example to show you that you can hang out with Gentiles now.” No, God does not use false metaphors. Food and people are tightly linked in the Torah (See Lev. 20:25-26). This is how Peter knew (without being told) that a vision that was _only_ about food signaled a change in the status of people as well.

And I'm sure you would agree that not every command that God has given applies to every person at all times. Some of His commands only apply to certain people (i.e., men, women, parents, Levitical priests) or for certain times (i.e., building an ark, gathering manna, while in exile). And I'm sure you would also agree that we are each only expected to keep the commands of God that apply to us. The NT teaches that the ceremonial Mosaic commands do not apply to Christians today. (ex. Repeated blood sacrifices for sin are no longer required (Heb 10:18).) We still serve God and obey His commands, “But now we are released from the law, having died with Christ to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code” (Rom 7:6).

The Law of Moses and the halacha
A Case in point when gentiles hear Jewish law, we think of an ancient archaic law that has lost any relevance to us today. There are two sets of laws, the Law Moses and the halacha (oral tradition) passed down as law. We can read the Law of Moses (Torah) but halacha is the law that teaches oral tradition manmade. Halacha was created at the fall of the first Temple, when they lost the only place that they could make sacrifices
Halacha was not written down until 200AD.
      Acts 24:14
14 “But this I do admit to you: I worship the God of our fathers in accordance with the Way (which they call a sect). I continue to believe everything that accords with the Torah, and everything written in the Prophets.

      Matt 23: 1-4
1 Then Yeshua addressed the crowds and his talmidim:
2 “The Torah-teachers and the P’rushim,” he said, “sit in the seat of Moshe.
3 So, whatever they tell you, take care to do it. But don’t do what they do because they talk but don’t act!
4 They tie heavy loads onto people’s shoulders but won’t lift a finger to help carry them.
The heavy load is halacha. At that time not everyone had a copy of the Torah, just Torah-teachers, Pharisees, and the very wealthy, so the interpretation and application of God's Laws had to go through their filters to get to God’s people. Just like today the church has filtered and twisted the truth because it was too Jewish.

Once again Rob makes a clear distinction between those that follow Torah today, and those that believe no follower of Jesus is bound to the Commands of the Father. It should be clear that there are two very different Saviors read in the NT; the Catholic Jesus that did away with parts of the Torah for followers, or the Hebrew Yeshua who taught how to keep Torah. After loading all the bases, Rob uses Charles Spurgeon to hit a Grand Slam to close out the teaching. Let’s read what the Preacher Spurgeon thought about celebrating the Catholic feast Christmas in a sermon in 1871. “Certainly we do not believe in the present ecclesiastical arrangement called Christmas: first, because we do not believe in the mass at all, but abhor it,… because we find no Scriptural warrant whatever for observing any day as the birthday of the Savior; and, consequently, its observance is a superstition, because not of divine authority.” Those that follow the true God of the Scriptures, don’t need Monte or a professor to teach them. Hi Plumber! Interestingly, Gen. 8:20 is the first reference to a sacrificial or worship altar in the Bible. And we know it was not a sacrifice based on the Mosaic Law. Not only because Israel did not yet exist and that Law would not be given until a thousand years after Noah, but also because Noah's sacrifice did not conform to Mosaic standards; it was not performed in Yahweh's Tabernacle by a Levitical priest. In fact, his sacrifice would technically be illegal for Israelites once the Sinai Covenant was given and the Law of Moses put into effect. (However, I believe Noah's sacrifice prefigured the sacrificial commands that would later be formalized in the covenant at Sinai.)
So the designation of "clean/unclean" animals in Genesis does not directly or necessarily invoke the animals that would later be listed in Lev. 11/Deut. 14. Especially since Gen. 9:3 says *_“Every moving thing that lives_* will be food for you.” There may have been an earlier awareness of animals that were appropriate and inappropriate for sacrifice. Or, the Biblical author may have added this detail anachronistically to avert potential contradictions with the law.

Also I’m not saying God did or didn’t change anything. But if he wants to. He can. Just like he can change his mind on how to respond to someone. Also. Israel. Is not the church. The church. Is gentile and Jewish believers. Israel is the Jewish people. The word is very clear that despite unbelief of some. The Jewish people are still Gods chosen people. We non Jews got Jesus sacrifice because the Jews (mostly) rejected him. No Jew or Greek. Also says no male or female. Gender still exist. So does ethnic distinctions. The church. Is not Israel. Gentiles are blessed by the sacrifice of the lord. Through the Abrahamic covenant. Not. The mosaic covenant. There are certain laws that apply to all. And some that apply specifically to the Jewish people. “Unclean. To. You.” Who was you? Those under the mosaic covenant. The Jewish people. There were non Jews too. Ok. Proselytizes? Or foreigners? That makes a difference.

Mark 7 is NOT about Kosher, Jesus rebukes the Pharisees for NOT keeping the commandments in that same passage, is He now going to in His next breath tell people to break the commandments. If that is what He meant, there would have been a reaction right there and then. If any Pharisees heard that and understood it that way that could have arrested Him right there and then. You have to put your social and cultural leanings and your pre-cocnceived learnings in the bin, but too many people dont have the humility to do that.

1 Thes 4:7-8 (NKJV) “For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. 8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.” Emphasis added, and if your interested the OT will teach you about uncleanness.
1 Thes 4:4-5 (NIV) “that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;” Emphasis added and in this unfortunate case, the word “pagans” in v.5 is used by the scholars, but in other translations is translated as Gentiles. Also Depending on what version you read, again it may not be such a good idea to only identify as a gentile because, in 1 Cor 12:2 (NASB) “You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols,…” Emphasis added and the word for “pagans” is normally translated as Gentiles. So are Christians gentiles or pagans? I guess it depends what side of the bed the scholars woke up on that day to choose how the Greek word “ethnos” is translated.

Your prediction is right, we shouldn't make the bible say something it doesn't, Peter's vision wasn't signifying that all foods were made clean, if that were the case he would've stated it, the vision wasn't about food at all, you read that into the bible.
The Holy Spirit could instruct Peter to go to a Gentiles house but not instruct him regarding all things being made clean? Very interesting.
Galatians 2:12 isn't dealing with eating the unclean thing but association with Gentiles, and food sacrificed to idols.
Nowhere in the bible does it say we can eat all things now and it mean the unclean thing, even in Genesis 9:3 the key phrase is "even as the green herb", can we eat the poisonous herb?
The things written in Acts 15:20 are taken straight from the Torah in Leviticus 17,18 and 19, but maybe we don't have to honour our mother and father anymore, or maybe we can worship idols since they're not listed.
The new testament DOES NOT TELL US ALL THINGS ARE CLEAN AND FOOD NOW, that's something man reads into the bible that's not there, if anyone can show me where Christ says he's made all things CLEAN or even that he said he's done away with the law, I won't be able to deny it.
Food is not made holy by praying for it but by the word of God, he only made certain things holy and he told us to eat those things and be holy - Leviticus 11:44-47, if every creature is good in the sense you're making it, then cannibalism is okay, that's a dangerous stance to take.
Followers of Jesus wouldn't have to be told to eat biblically, they already knew to do it, they would have to be told not eat biblically anymore, as the command has already been given.
I will give Monte this, if you're not following his law and commandments, you can't be a believer of him, nor is his spirit in you, once you receive the spirit by faith, the spirit will cause you to walk in those things - Ezekiel 36:27; 1 John 3:24.
Those who break God's commandments and teach men to do so, will not inherit the kingdom of God, and I don't say that with a hateful heart.

In Acts 10:28 and again in v.34 (2x), Peter says the vision was about not calling any man unholy or unclean. Adding anything more to this Spirit lead conclusion is basic eisegesis, and that is a very bad practice.
The sheet of animals was related to food just as much as Abraham sacrificing Isaac was about human sacrifice.
In Acts 15:19-21, the 4 requirements for the gentiles turning to YHWH, were the “starter pack” from the Law of Moses/Torah, so nothing new here. Still required to follow Torah and hear Moses preached on Sunday, whoops I meant 7th day Shabbat. Faith comes by hearing the words of God.
As for Torah/YHWH words causing divisions in families and churches, as sad as they are, what did Yeshua say about the truth he preaches: Matthew 10:34-36 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’..”

The argument about “native born and sojourners” simply doesn’t work logically in my opinion - 99% of the world’s Christian population does not live in Israel or somewhere among a high concentration of religious Jews. For example, in the city where I grew up less than 1% of population are Jews (and majority of them are secular). That would be very far from reality to label Christians like me to be “sojourners among Israelites”.

For those that think no food can defile you now in this church age, consider the end time rebukes about eating things sacrificed to idols that is given by Jesus to two of the churches in the book of Revelations. Remember, this if right from the mouth of your Savior.
Revelation 2:14,16a “But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who kept teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols…16 Therefore repent…”
Revelation 2:20 “But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.”
Have you heard of Islamic Halal meat? You could possibly be eating out of ignorance meat consecrated to the idol Allah today for lunch or dinner. You figure it out, does what you put in your mouth matter to your God? Jesus tells these believers to repent.

The last supper was not a Seder, it’s “the last supper of Yeshua''. Let’s put some logic to the subject; Yeshua cannot be the Passover lamb and eat it too for He is the lamb without blemish.
    Who is the church
All or most denominations that exist today have catholicism as their foundation. The protestant churches cleaned up the catholic beliefs, like putting the ten commands back to its original state, lost the idols in their churches, lost the elaborate and perfected masses and the confessional. But the root of their doctrines is still “catholicism” not the Hebrew root that Paul speaks of.
Removal of the Jewish Faith and culture
The church fathers worked very hard to remove all the Jewishness from the creation of their (new) doctrine that they would teach for almost 2 thousand years. In the first century church, the Romans were killing Jews not because they were believers in Yeshua, but because they were Jews and at the time most believers were Jews, They saw the people of The Way just as just another sect of Judisim. God gave Israel seven appointed times, the Biblical Feast days. Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Trumpets, Atonement and Tabernacles. The church gave us festivals that are tied to nothing except easter which packs the three spring festivals into two celebrations. Their feasts are: The Feast of Mary, Ascension Thursday, Assumption of Mary into heaven, All Saints’ Day, The Feast of the Immaculate Conception and Christmas the Nativity of Our Lord. I’m not going to try any logic to this because it makes no sense. The protestant took from that mess easter and Christmas so, the protestant kept the fundamental doctrine of catholicism.
    Conclusion
Who is the winner here? Of course, it’s the adversary(satan). This is what the Pharisees were doing in Yeshua’s time. They put their Halacha (oral tradition) between God and His people. The founding fathers of the church taught the people a doctrine not of God but of man, then Scripture is twisted to make it fit. To close this is the tip of the iceberg, there is so much more to learn.
If in Yeshua, the Spirt in me is the same Spirt in you and the Spirt knows its own work. First Cor:17-25
For the Messiah did not send me to immerse but to proclaim the Good News - and to do it without relying on “wisdom” that consists of mere rhetoric, so as not to rob the Messiah’s execution-stake of its power. For the message about the execution-stake is nonsense to those in the process of being destroyed, but to us in the process of being saved it is the power of God. Indeed, the Tanakh says,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise
and frustrate the intelligence of the intelligent.” (Isaiah 29:14, 1 Corinthians 1:14)
Where does that leave the philosopher, the Torah-teacher, or any of today’s thinkers? Hasn’t God made this world’s wisdom look pretty foolish? For God’s wisdom ordained that the world, using its own wisdom, would not come to know him. Therefore, God decided to use the “nonsense” of what we proclaim as his means of saving those who come to trust in it. Precisely because Jews ask for signs and Greeks try to find wisdom, we go on proclaiming a Messiah executed on a stake as a criminal! To Jews this is an obstacle, and to Greeks it is nonsense; but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, this same Messiah is God’s power and God’s wisdom! For God’s “nonsense” is wiser than humanity’s “wisdom.”
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of Adonai is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of holy ones is understanding.
Psalm 51:7-8 True, I was born guilty, was a sinner from the moment my mother conceived me. Still, you want truth in the inner person; so make me know wisdom in my inmost heart.
The point is God's wisdom is not our wisdom, to obtain God's wisdom is to seek it form God but with total trust and submission to His will. You must check your worldly wisdom at the door.
I pray this makes sense to you.
May God bless you and give you understanding. In Yeshua's Name

Isaiah 19:21 “Thus YHWH will make Himself known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know YHWH in that day. They will even worship with sacrifice and offering, and will make a vow to YHWH and perform it.” Scriptures teach that some sacrifices will be eaten afterwards, and we should already know that any unclean sacrifices were an abomination. Regarding the scathing rebuke of Monte’s position about eating with disobedient believers, Paul supports Monte’s position. 1 Cor 5:9-13 “I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; 10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, …, for then you would have to go out of the world. 11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, an…idolater, or a reviler…-not even to eat with such a one. 12 …Do you not judge those who are within the church? 13 …REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES.” A non-Torah follower could be categorized as immoral and an idolater. Remember what Jesus will say to some highly spiritual church members, “Depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness” (Matt 7:21-23). The biblical definition of sin is lawlessness (1 John 3:4). Immoral people are those that do not follow God’s will, and because they put other religious practices before His, they would be idolators. That would be this layman’s opinion, but I am not an expert by any means like the professor.

Great passage from Paul . Rob, a solid Messianic should agree with all of the letters Paul wrote. I do find it interesting though that in verses 20,21 many scholars and their different versions of the Bible don’t agree whether to include the parentheses or not to in those verses. We are praying for you Rob.

This is a false teacher. What does this man know that God doesn't know. Does this man have any power to change what God said NO. who is this man to test what God said and try and say that it means the opposite of what he said. You just became a false teacher or what your saying and if you think what your saying is true you saying saying that the God you followed is a false God. The God I know does what he pleases and what he says goes and he is a merciful but jealous God. The one who destroyed sodom and gomorrah the one that brought his ppl out of the egypt. The God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob. Read Abraham's story again that's a prime example. God told him to sacrifice his son a command. So abraham followed the Lords and what he said and had done for him and was about to kill his son and God stopped him. Because he did what Gid said God promised his whole descendants will be given land of enemies and they will be blessed because he obeyed him.

You make your argument not even knowing what FOOD is. If it is unclean it is not food. read your bible ALL of it . If you do not understand this basic concept, how do you expect to understand anything? Stop twisting scripture to fit your doctrine.

Actually the definition of "food" is anything that can be eaten. And in the Law of Moses, some food was labeled ritually clean, while other food was labeled ritually unclean. Consider this passage:
“You shall not eat anything that has died naturally. You may give it to the sojourner who is within your towns, that he may eat it or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a people holy to the Lord your God" (Deut 14:21).
Animals that died naturally were still food, sojourners could eat them. They were only designated "ritually unclean" to the Israelites.

Here you go again instilling this belief that the food that you could give away but not eat themselves actually includes that which is in the unclean category!

He is says not to follow what God said. Because jesus went away with it. Did heaven and earth go away? Well neither did his laws and commandments. If you think God words went way how can he come back to save us if his word goes away. How can anything he says be true if it goes away. You proved yourself to be a false teacher at the highest level.

Hey, Cos! I'm curious. Do you believe the annual animal sacrifices to atone for sin (Lev. 16) have gone away? Or do you think we should still be keeping those sacrifices? RLS

    • @Cos.....
      @Cos..... 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@TheBiblicalRoots Yea. Do you know what that was for atonement was for right.ATONEMENT is to be cleansed from all sins through the lord. You gave a sacrifice to the lord on your behalf to be cleansed from all sins for you and all the members of the community. Because back then not everyone had offerings to give so this was a way to show the lord that you want him to forgive or cleanse you and your community for any and all sin Leviticus chapter 16 verse 33 THROUGH 34 AND MAKE ATONEMENT FOR THE MOST HOLY PLACE, FOR THE TENT OF MEETING AND THE ALTAR AND FOR THE PRIESTS AND ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. THIS IS TO BE A LASTING ORDINACE FOR YOU: ATONEMENT IS TO BE MADE ONCE A YEAR FOR ALL THE SINS OF THE ISRAELITES.
They were making sure the most holy place the tent of meeting and even the altar were cleansed before the lord. You realize how big that is. To clean stuff used specifically for the Lord. That's why they did that.
If you think your gonna go to heaven with out doing what the lord says to do your sadly mistake and it's bad when your telling ppl not to follow what God says.

The problem with your interpretation is that God _never said_ the unclean animals had been made into clean animals. He said: *"What* God hath cleansed, that call not thou common." What had God cleansed? God cleansed men. We are not to call believers 'common'.
After his vision, Peter was perplexed as to what the vision meant. Peter didn't suddenly assume it meant unclean animals are food. He pondered the vision and was shown that it was about 'man-kind'. Peter *never* went on to say that unclean animals were now 'food'.
We are to test the spirits to see if they are from God. If we have a vision or a dream that goes against God's word we know it's not from God. Your interpretation gives anyone who has a dream or vision contrary to scripture the ability to say their vision tops scripture. Not so!
Peter never ate unclean animals while Jesus was here on earth in the 30's (the vision took place about three years after Jesus' ascension). Then later in the 90's John wrote "The Revelation of Jesus Christ" in which he spoke about 'Babylon the Great' being the habitation of every *unclean bird.* Unclean bird? Yes, still unclean.
Isaiah tells us the Lord will destroy believers who are eating unclean animals at His future coming. You are leading people astray. You need to study this further.

Hello, Mr. B. Puppies!
      Blessings, Rob

Hi Rob, here is another cookie-cutter argument. Acts 10:2,3,22. Cornelius was a devout man, God fearing, was charitable to the people, prayed to God continually, a righteous and
God-fearing man, well spoken of by the entire nation of the Jews. The vision that came to him was at the 9th hour ( the last daily sacrifice of the day ). The scriptural language used
to describe Cornelius clearly painted him as a Torah follower. God - fearing ( kept the commandments) , a righteous man ( kept the Torah ) , ate clean ( the Jews spoke well of him ). The only thing missing….Peter explains to him what Yehoshua had done on the cross
( the 9th hour ), the Holy Spirit fell on him, he was baptized in the name of the Messiah
Yehoshua. Vs. 43 every one who believes ( obeys ) Him has received forgiveness of sins
( transgression of the Torah ). Hebrews 1:6 when He ( Yehoshua ) again brings the first-born
into the land “ And let all the angels of the God worship Him. So here we see that Cornelius
has become a first-born ( he follows Yehoshua and His Torah ). Got Torah Got Truth
