I know this video looks like it all happened quickly but, trust me, it did not.🤣 Everything took a couple of months, between demoing, painting, flooring, electric, unpacking enough crap to find the parts I need to hang my shelves, going to the hardware store 1000 times to buy anchors cause I never had enough, labeling and reorganizing boxes so I don't have doom piles and doom drawers everywhere, etc. However, it is done, it is functional and I love it very, very much.
I hope this video helps give you ideas for a functional craft or sewing room, especially if your workspace is dark or in a basement.

I empathize with having something pretty much done and realizing you have to take it down and re-do it cause it's wrong. I do that so often and it's actually the number one reason I abandon projects because I'm like "ffs I have to do it all again" and then I don't 😆

My parents linoleum floors still look new after 30+ years. I’d take that over that weird grey laminate fake wood flooring that’s going in everywhere any day.

I have linoleum floors in my house from the 1950's and they still look great! No divots, cracks, stains, or wear spots. Linoleum is magic.
The paint tool your dad was wondering about, the curved notch is used to scrape the paint off rollers before washing them.

Fab sewing space! I like the idea of lino for the floor (I have carpet in mine, because it used to be a bedroom, now combo home office/sewing space. The amount of thread tails on the floor are unreal).

I also have carpet in mine because my mother was adament that i as a seamstress would only use my work room as a workroom occashenly and it woudl be a gest room more often and she new best i deeply regret giving into her and having carpet in most places

It looks amazing! So excited for you! My mom did cork flooring in her sewing room and we highly recommend that. When pins and needles fall into a cork floor, you find them sticking straight up.
I am happy with my hardwood floors having them lay flat and it's simple enough to see and pick up all needles
I have a large magnet on a stick and periodically sweep the floor with it. Finds all sorts of sins.
I am aware this works great for you or you wouldn't share it, but to clumsy me that sounds like the worst possible floor. Give me a floor that they lie flat on and a magnet on a stick, please.

Love your Dad!!! I love the white look for my sewing/crafting space as well. It really makes it easier to see the colours of threads buttons etc that I have in clear jars on my Billy (from Ikea) shelving.

You should look up the 5 Ss. It's an industry concept but it works for any workspace including kitchens :)

The Sewing Room and Antique Clothing Storage/Cutting Room look awesome! Many solid logical design choices to have good light for filming and storage shelves for keeping "all things" neat and organized. Nicely Done!
For the buggies, try diatomaceous earth. It's a fine powder you spread along baseboards that kills crawling bugs. Non toxic to pets & people because it's shells from itty bitty sea creatures that scratches up crawling bugs and causes them to dry out.
It’s a carcinogen. It works great, but it’s not good for humans. We were very firmly warned off it in graduate painting school.
It's a desiccant. It absorbs the lipids from the exoskeleton of insects, which damages their ability to retain fluids and they become dehydrated and die (not tiny shells scratching them. wtf?). Though it is low risk, it is still regulated in the US due to the risk of inhaling it and causing illness.

Looks amazing. As much as i love the space and what you have done, I think your parents are serious bonus-content! It is easy to see where you get your sense of humor and whimsy. I'm glad you were able to move closer to them. Good job on the house. (You might want to do an episode on linoleum-marmoleum, for those who still confuse it with sheet vinyl. Share the history, manufacture, etc.)

Yeah, IKEA has been hurting from supply chain issues for a while...it's frustrating to say the least...

I see lots of SKADIS! :D I have 2 large ones connected for my scissors and thread...and 4 for my embroidery thread :'D made my cutting table out of the Kallax set, ironing station with 2 Elfa from Container store and 2 small SKADIS for my Cricut maker. I also have wood linoleum for my floors too - high five!

I love your parents they’re so fun! ❤️ I seriously regret having hardwood floors in my sewing room. My feet hurt lol I usually wind up having to take a lot of breaks and roll around on my rug. This used to be a bedroom and at that time I didn’t really focus much on sewing to make whole garments just to repair things. But your space looks amazing! I’m saving this video so I can go back and look at the shelves because my space lacks a whole of storage lol

I had that ikea island at my old house. It was amazing. While it’s main purpose was kitchen island I used it for cutting fabric all the time. Even sewed washable shelf liners for the shelves.
