Interesting you backbuttered the wall and troweled the grout on the tile. Looks like a throrough job, you checked every single tile like 5 times!!

Can you share the source for the wall tile? They are matched up so nicely looks like a continuous design. Makes all the difference 😊

Tile Elements in Santa Ana. I think they sell something similar at Floor and Decor as well.

Waterproofing seems a bit lacking but good finished result

They had done it for me and said it was "ready for tile". This was one of the last jobs I took without doing the waterproofing as well. Also the last time I used hardibacker. I couldn't believe they spent so much on tile but wanted to waterproof it with hardibacker and tar paper. I did at least add some hydroban, and I used kerdi fix at the bottom line and corners.

@osearcy4 even if you had them sign something if you went to court you'd be liable. You're the professional and you know better is how that goes in court. According to others. Hardi is shit. Cement board and kerdi seems to be the most solid shower. Tile the world. What area are you in? Pac NW here

@@derekhindman8442 I was working under another contractor. I do know a little about business law (I had to pass the exam), and you can have an indemnification agreement which covers you for such liability. I have this in every contract of this nature. I also hold 2 licenses (B and C54) for which my GL insurance would cover me if anything were to fail. Did I mention I used hydroban at the penetrations and kerdi fix at the tub connection and corners? I know it's old school, but this form of waterproofing was and still is done by many to this day. I don't use it anymore (moved on to Schluter); however, if done properly, this method will last. I used it for the first 15 or so years of my career. Side note: this is also still a CSLB approved method.
PS: I 100% agree hardi is shit. I only use it as an option to solidify a floor, then I cover it with Ditra.
I am in Orange County, CA.

@osearcy4 By your answer, you seem to be ok with this minimal waterproofing method. Thats handyman shit. Just putting a topical waterproofer over the seams is bare minimum turbo. And didnt you fur out the hardi? Thought so. Thats your method but nice try on the " someone else did it / got it ready for tile ". Glad you switched to schluter/kerdi. I'm licensed and passed the exam too! Different states have different laws and I build showers for life, not 10-15 years!

ugghhh...over dry wall? bad idea even when using a shluter system but terrible idea without it and not even a coat of hydroban? glad it's not my shower. Good gob on laying the tile though.
