That was my local castle when I lived in Dumfries when I was a boy in the early 1960's. I cycled there a few times with friends. I understood it meant fort amongst the rushes or something similar. In the mid sixties I occasionally exercised the dogs of the then current Lady Maxwell for pocket money. Nice video & nice to see the old place again. I have lived in the antipodes now, for several decades. I seem to recall there was some talk of a much earlier Roman fort in the same area.
Greetings from Wisconsin! I loved my visits to caerlaverock. I made a second visit to there with my grandson to show him what a beautiful castle that was. Great historical narrative thank you! I remember as well the delicious snack shop on the premises. Thank you for this video
Thank You , Emily ! What a wonderful castle !!! It would be so cool to camp out there overnight !! Thanks for all your efforts to bring us theses castles ! 🇺🇲/ 🏴
A beautiful place, a beautiful ruin, a sometime sad, but wonderful history!! Thank you again, Emily. My day has been enhanced, with vivid pictures of glory! Mary. USA
I didn't know that this channel existed. I just subscribed. I very much like the presentation and the accent is wonderful also. I am half Scotchish so this history is important to me.
Just wondered why you referred to the Lowland Scottish Family the Douglas Family as Clan Douglas, when in their hey day, just like the Maxwells, they never referred to themselves as a Clan
Lovely peaceful setting. Thanks for letting me dream.
Glad you enjoyed it!♥️🏴

Thanks and welcome!♥️♥️
Tip Cammie, never ever refer to yourself as Full Scotch or Half Scotch. Scotch is a drink!!!
That poor beautiful castle sure took more than it's fair share of beatings over the centuries.
Thank you for sharing we had our wedding photos taken there in 1997 after being married at gretna green and we are still together
Thanks for sharing!♥️🏴
Hi Emily love your videos would love it you could possibly visit Drum castle in Aberdeenshire near Peter coulter
@@nigelervine1 I’ll get to it ♥️🏴
This is my family castle as I am a Maxwell on my father's side.
Only one Branch had this Castle, other Maxwells looked after Castles in this area and beyond!!
Great Drone shots.....how did you get permission to launch a drone especially when the Castle was open?
So it's just going to be left to fall in?
Why do you think the Scaffolding is up?
