I had the opportunity to meet Mike Vallely in Caracas, Venezuela. When he was signing autographs I told him that I took a 16h bus from my local city to meet him and it totally worth it! He stood up and gave me a hug and took a picture grabbing me as a bro. That made my day and my skate life!!! Also, he give "greeting fists" to kids while skating and listened them. He's a great guy!
you goed to caracas from san cristobal right? Useche and 16 hours got me a glue, im useche too and from SC by the way, i was 8 hour trip to ccs but i get the info that he was in ccs later, i felt really bad because he is my favorite skater
@@heyyou7536 glad to hear that you're sticking w/ it. I've been going snail pace but I also wasn't good at skating as a kid either. I'm just figuring out ollies and am very happy w/ that progress. It helps that there's more cool helmets out there. What kind did you go for? I went w/ a Pro-Tec w/ a Skeleton Key graphic on it.
I think it’s dope that you wear a helmet. I just bought two triple 8’s for my kids that want to start skating. One weird thing though, I used to wear them at some indoor parks that required them when I was a teenager but I feel like I hit my head more whenever I wore it. If you got it, might as well use it! 😂
I live in Des Moines and I’m 49 years old, I used to skate until I was 19 and I’m seriously thinking about skating again just because Mike moved here .
Years a go I got his Revolution Mother Element deck signed by him at a Fayetteville Demo. I wasn't even skating back then just respecting the music and the legend from my youth.
I saw Jason Lee and Mike Vallely do a demo behind Sevananda grocery store in Little Five Points in Atlanta Georgia for Thomas Taylor’s Stratosphere Skate Shop in the late 1980s early 1990s just before Mike Vallely turned around and backhanded his girlfriend in the mouth. What a punk.
I just listened the second time on the back porch skating around. I want to say I love you guys. The Nine Club rules. I haven't said much lately. I supported you guys before. I have to say you can expect me to donate regularly once again. Winters in PA are depressing. You kind of forget about what matters in winter. You guys matter. Mike V matters. Everyone who skates matters. Much love. 🙌🤙
I loved that story behind the Powell Peralta elephant graphic. in my opinion thats the best board graphic ever. That image has been with me since 88 in whatever format. Its on my arm, on my wall and a set up by the front door ready to go. That's a seriously powerful image.
I met Mike V once in the middle of a crowd walking to get a beer at a LA Kings hockey game at Staples Center in the late 90s! He was so friendly and genuinely stoked to say hi! I will never forget it! Dude is a legend!
This is another special, special interview. I can't get enough Mike V. If the conversation is not 5 hours plus, it seems like not long enough. You guys have us all spoiled now.
Fucking ending was heavy, skateboarding is life whether you grind rails, slap curbs, just push keep it going, much respect 9 club the world needs skateboarding
I started skating around 2005, back then, no clue what Mike V. is all about. His skating really intrigued me from the start. Before a Kickflip I learned boneless, street grabs and some crob plants. Still to this day my favourite skater. Much love.
Mike is one of most genuine and inspiring people in skateboarding, I remember coming home from school and watching the sports school trick tip segments he did with time warner cable. Helped me learn so much and kept me stoked to keep learning and skate anything even a little drain or crack in the ground. Never looked at skateboarding the same since and I love it.
Same here. Funny thing is his Powell board was popular in my town as a kid, saw him in themagazines and videos and still I couldn't get it right til he was on then off World.
Mike V, what a fucking legend. Dude just has the best stories and the way he can captivate you with his words is unreal. Always a treat to be able to have him on.
Mike's decision to use a helmet made me think about it. I'm in my forties with kids and it suddenly dawned on me why the f**k have I never worn one? I wear one on my MTB and I'm much more likely to whack my melon skating? Saved me from at least 1 concussion so far so thanks Mike!
Met Mike V in Indianapolis when Black Flag played. Super nice dude, bought a Street Plant board, he signed it and chatted for a bit.. Dope dude!! Love to see him back on here!!
Saw him skateboarding at a warped tour once and finally got to meet him a couple years back. He was just walking around after they had done sound check and he was super cool and chill. Took some pictures with my daughter and I and chatted for a bit. He killed it later on stage with Black Flag
I had the opportunity to see Mike win best trick at Tampa Pro 2012!!! I’ll never forget!!! He broke his board and like three other pros boards trying it and then made it!!!
Always entertaining spending time listening to skaters from the OG days such an insight to what is their perspective on what was, what is and what will be. My only time seeing Mike V was when the bones brigade toured uk and he was at ROM skatepark along with Sean Goff and some other uk pros, It was the first time i had seen a No Comply and when Mike V smashed a 4ft out of the 6ft banks the world just got redefined in that moment, Massive thanks to The Nine club and Can't wait until Mike is back in the studio.
First board I ever owned was a Mike Vallely element! 17 years ago! I remember it like it was yesterday! Baby blue with a beat up smiley face, it said “have a !@%$# day”. Everyday I spent on that board I .... had the best days... of my life!
just thrilled about Mike being in the home state. Also with a park that size in Des Moines who would have guessed Iowa. He really embodies a lot of skateboarders that grew up throughout the state. We never had great parks until recently, so we skated whatever. We had so much faith in the ones we knew had potential. I think it was the community, still like any other, all we wanted to do was skate. also just say dead without the D and then say moyne. or the way those seagulls from finding nemo say "mine"
First time I saw Mike V, I saw a video of him flying around a cement park. I still never seen anyone killing those transitions like that with so much air connected. Scary guy... in a good way. And now we see that he is a really nice and intellectual guy too.
I learned about skateboarding from my dad so my family swears by the bones brigade. Mike V and Ray Barbee were my first introduction to street skating.
I too could easily listen to 2 1/2 more hours of this. Great stories. Kelly it was an amazing time in skateboarding to learn/invent new things weekly (started in ‘89). Maybe 2 videos were released per year so the possibilities were endless. Thanks Chris, Roger, Jeron. Stacy Peralta would be huge on the show btw.

My friend who I got into skating with when I was a kid had a stutter. I thought dude's name was Mike Valley for like 10 years until I actually saw his name spelled out.
Hey Mike, I remember watching you rip the street course at Slam City Jam. You and Chris Senn had the most distinct styles and were the hardest charging skaters there in my recollection. That was a great time in skateboarding. I'll be picking up a pair of those shoes come September. Thanks for your contribution!
