Everyone just look at the amazing animation. The way the characters move, how they're designed, the wonderful voice acting, it's all carefully planned out and a LOT of work is put into it. His characters are so much more alive compared to his first video. He's really come a long way. Thank you James, every time you post it's the highlight of my day.
It helps to remember that you can't find inspiration, inspiration finds you. Inspiration is everywhere. You can write about anything. Everything has a story to be told, you just need to know how to see it. I have no problem with getting inspiration, but I do have a problem with having the ambition and motivation. I write in my journal sometimes and that helps, but making the effort to write isn't always easy. It'll come when it comes. I believe that everything that needs to be written will be when it's time for it to be. If you stress out about it, it will be that much harder. Just relax and let the ideas come to you.
It really can't be emphasized enough. You need discipline before inspiration, you have to put in a little elbow grease to get the things you want in life!
I was honestly surprised to hear this said concisely from james. I feel like a lot of youtubers say stuff like "just do it" like james said, but yeah. You don't wait, you set a schedule and stick to it, it's hard, especially if you weren't taught discipline as a kid, but it's the only way you'll get anything done
Genuinely, I needed to hear this. I never thought about discipline, but after some months of not touching projects I'm realizing that I do need to stop waiting for "if and when" and start doing "here and now"

I don’t like it personally. The old kind of jumbled animation style has a certain charm to it. This feels more like a corporately-made animated series.

The whole moving the pen and putting ideas out onto something physical, is so true! I've been writing my own stories lately and every time I like an idea, I write it down somewhere so I know thats what I want to work on, plus just typing whatever comes to my brain is so helpful for getting gears turning and ideas flowing, it just works out so well Also that discipline thing?? That is a life saving tip!! Sometimes you can't just wait for motivation, you have to just get up and DO IT!!

Man you took me back to my highschool years with forced writing and word counts. There is hope for some though. Business degrees have a business writing course which literally retrains you to be concise, clear, and polite. So many people struggled to break the old habbits. It was so satifying to do a writing assignement where you were trying to write as little as possible.
Ah that explains a lot. I skipped school (homeschooled) and all I thought was 'I don't remember learning to write like that' lol. But I do see people struggling at uni because they want to keep to a certain 'format' even if it's completely redundant
@@thedarklordofall6792 That's rough. I didn't really have a curriculum but I guess my parents really get me to love writing so I was writing whether or not my mom gave me writing tasks. If I stayed at school (I went to a small school up to 6th grade), I'm pretty sure I won't enjoy writing as much as I do because a lot of how I improved was of my own initiative.

These are actually all very good points. I know my pen doesn’t start moving on its own. I have to make it move. It really does help to just start, even if it’s garbage, and then tweak and edit until you have a masterpiece.

If I could add something to the advice of “Just Do It”, I’d say start with something short and simple that you can finish quickly. Finishing the project is very important to keep you motivated to move on to the next thing. The longer you do it, the better you’ll get, and the longer and more complicated you can make it. You’ll have a hard time writing a novel if you’ve never written a short story

The animators have done a really good job with the transitions and movements. Everything looks so seamless. And this was helpful as creator, since it’s been really hard for me to find inspiration for last 2 years
"You're not going to be motivated until you get disciplined." It's amazing how all it takes is to find the right set of words. I've been going through a pretty rough art block recently and this really helps.

My ELA teacher makes us do that (write about anything that comes to our minds for how ever long she wants it to be). She calls it "The Stream of Conciseness" and does this to get our brain flowing.
School doesn't teach you EVERYTHING. Life and personal experiences do more. I need constant flow of inspiration as a filmmaker. The pandemic really made me feel like "meh" and fostered a creativity block. I miss the times when we didn't have restrictions. I am reflecting back on my recent film "Tears of Oizys" th-cam.com/video/nSC4ptU79-8/w-d-xo.html. I miss creating films and submitting them for film festivals, and pass stories for the world to see! I am using this time off to really be in tune with what is out there and register stories. My advice is never be afraid of failing! You fail 100000 times but you succeed 1 time. Who else went to watch James' first video? Edit: On the subject of five paragraph essays, I for one wonder how teachers get through so many essays time and time again. Edit 2: I have heard of that tip for creativity. I've used it a few times. It works well! On the subject of motivation vs. discipline, my sister has said the same thing...She keeps saying I need more discipline. Motivation was consistently enough for me before my current medication caused a side effect known as avolition...I think I just function differently. I find that if I force myself to come up with something, it's much worse quality. When left to my own devices, I'm typically able to manage fine.

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my TH-cam channel 2 months ago about self development. Now I have 190 subs and almost 82 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I couldn’t have learned without getting started in the 1st place.
2:45 I’ve related to a lot of things James has said but I don’t know if I’ve related to anything more than this. I actually remember a specific 1000-word-essay one of my teachers made us do in 8th grade. And I’m pretty sure the last 3/4 the essay was me just making the same point over and over to up the word count. What was even worse was our teacher made us write the essays by hand, so it took a lot longer than it would if we were to type, plus we had to count each word on our own whereas Microsoft Word would’ve done that for us. Even though the last 3/4 of the essay were basically me reiterating the same point in different words, the teacher never said anything about it. She did talk to a lot of my classmates though, mainly because they didn’t even attempt to REACH the word count on their essays.
I remember vividly when I finally figured out the magic formula in college: 1) Write enough to make the point 2) Replace all contractions with the longer words 3) Add liberal amounts of bullshit until you reach the word count.
Looking back on James’s first video, it really shows how much better he’s gotten at animation and drawing. First videos are a good way to keep a memory to show how much you’ve grown and changed!

Bro this dudes animation skills and the background has improved so much like it’s insane. Comparing from his video “things I do that adults probably don’t do” (which I love btw) to this video the improvement not only in animation but the way he speaks. He has improved a lot, but he has a team now which does a lot of things for him, helping him do more impressive things and still have a regular upload schedule. Also a lot of the impressive things he has in his videos are mainly done by his team, such as a lot of backrounds.

I've been wanting to do animations similar to this for quite a while and I just have to say that this segment 4:54 is one of the best things I've ever seen
He'll never see this, but the one issue with making a schedule is that only really works if you don't have anything that can constantly disrupt it. Basically he does this for a living so he has the time to set aside. I work a retail job so I can have food and power and stuff, and the commute and work while not stressful, does leave me a bit physically exhausted. I've found I can't simply come home and muster the energy for 'personal projects' though I try my best. Hell I barely game anymore as I just don't have the time or energy.
Bro, stop the excuses. I believe you can do it. So fcking open your calendar and make an event for next monday 8 pm. No matter what come you will do it. If you don't do it now, then you just don't wanna do it. That's what my grandpa was used to say
@opinion Yeah it's hard to find time when you have so much to do. Right now my work schedule is like 11am to 7pm, and I use a bicycle to get to work. Which takes an hour. My day consists of getting up, biking to work. Working on my feet all day, then biking home. I'll have a few hours after I get home to do anything, usually cooking dinner. I try to write some when I can, but I'm just so burned out from the day. I get two days off, but Saturday I have a stream I do in the morning, and another at night, with choirs/groceries in the day. Only real day I have off is Thursday which I also do a stream that night. Sadly a lot of times on that day I just can't muster up the energy to do a writing project, and would rather just unwind and relax. Sleep in and that stuff. There just isn't much time for me to "schedule" time for a project like he says to do in this video.

I know it sounds like excuses, but to me it's just me being honest. I already have so much going on, there isn't much time for something like this, and it's not something I can just put a date on a calendar and do. Likely, as with the date you just gave me, I'll be at work. Best idea I can think of is to cut one of my streams, but I'm not big on that idea. Those are what I look forward to, for getting me through my weeks.

The solution is not that hard, do your goal first, instead of staying up tired after coming home from work until 11, go right to bed at 9 , get up at 5 or 4 AM and do what you want to do FIRST, then no matter what happens later you have won that day! good luck to you, love brother!
I can agree with James a little bit on here. I've always had creative thoughts and ideas but even sometimes too lazy to do it. But I've also been in a couple of short stories and I'm working on a book that I've been working on for like 2 or 3 years (or more.) because sometimes motivation isn't there. Now trust me I'm not a professional writer or reader but I have been told by a few that I can write decently. But I would like to post my stories on the internet but I don't know where to stay if anyone has any ideas or advice please help me out I would really appreciate it. And thank you James not only for another amazing video but to let me see the light a bit brighter.
just on the discipline thing, something you have to remember is that even if it's only 5 minutes a day that is still progress, because even thought, you haven't put tons of time into it you put some time into it, and improved, even if it is slightly

It helps to remember that you can't find inspiration, inspiration finds you. Inspiration is everywhere. You can write about anything. Everything has a story to be told, you just need to know how to see it. I have no problem with getting inspiration, but I do have a problem with having the ambition and motivation. I write in my journal sometimes and that helps, but making the effort to write isn't always easy. It'll come when it comes. I believe that everything that needs to be written will be when it's time for it to be. If you stress out about it, it will be that much harder. Just relax and let the ideas come to you.

I was honestly surprised to hear this said concisely from james. I feel like a lot of youtubers say stuff like "just do it" like james said, but yeah. You don't wait, you set a schedule and stick to it, it's hard, especially if you weren't taught discipline as a kid, but it's the only way you'll get anything done

The whole moving the pen and putting ideas out onto something physical, is so true! I've been writing my own stories lately and every time I like an idea, I write it down somewhere so I know thats what I want to work on, plus just typing whatever comes to my brain is so helpful for getting gears turning and ideas flowing, it just works out so well

Man you took me back to my highschool years with forced writing and word counts. There is hope for some though. Business degrees have a business writing course which literally retrains you to be concise, clear, and polite. So many people struggled to break the old habbits. It was so satifying to do a writing assignement where you were trying to write as little as possible.
Ah that explains a lot. I skipped school (homeschooled) and all I thought was 'I don't remember learning to write like that' lol.
But I do see people struggling at uni because they want to keep to a certain 'format' even if it's completely redundant

These are actually all very good points. I know my pen doesn’t start moving on its own. I have to make it move. It really does help to just start, even if it’s garbage, and then tweak and edit until you have a masterpiece.

If I could add something to the advice of “Just Do It”, I’d say start with something short and simple that you can finish quickly. Finishing the project is very important to keep you motivated to move on to the next thing. The longer you do it, the better you’ll get, and the longer and more complicated you can make it. You’ll have a hard time writing a novel if you’ve never written a short story

My ELA teacher makes us do that (write about anything that comes to our minds for how ever long she wants it to be). She calls it "The Stream of Conciseness" and does this to get our brain flowing.
School doesn't teach you EVERYTHING. Life and personal experiences do more. I need constant flow of inspiration as a filmmaker. The pandemic really made me feel like "meh" and fostered a creativity block. I miss the times when we didn't have restrictions. I am reflecting back on my recent film "Tears of Oizys" th-cam.com/video/nSC4ptU79-8/w-d-xo.html. I miss creating films and submitting them for film festivals, and pass stories for the world to see! I am using this time off to really be in tune with what is out there and register stories. My advice is never be afraid of failing! You fail 100000 times but you succeed 1 time. Edit 2: I have heard of that tip for creativity. I've used it a few times. It works well!
On the subject of motivation vs. discipline, my sister has said the same thing...She keeps saying I need more discipline. Motivation was consistently enough for me before my current medication caused a side effect known as avolition...I think I just function differently. I find that if I force myself to come up with something, it's much worse quality. When left to my own devices, I'm typically able to manage fine.

2:45 I’ve related to a lot of things James has said but I don’t know if I’ve related to anything more than this. I actually remember a specific 1000-word-essay one of my teachers made us do in 8th grade. And I’m pretty sure the last 3/4 the essay was me just making the same point over and over to up the word count.
What was even worse was our teacher made us write the essays by hand, so it took a lot longer than it would if we were to type, plus we had to count each word on our own whereas Microsoft Word would’ve done that for us.
Even though the last 3/4 of the essay were basically me reiterating the same point in different words, the teacher never said anything about it. She did talk to a lot of my classmates though, mainly because they didn’t even attempt to REACH the word count on their essays.

Bro this dudes animation skills and the background has improved so much like it’s insane. Comparing from his video “things I do that adults probably don’t do” (which I love btw) to this video the improvement not only in animation but the way he speaks. Like he sounds so much more relaxed and loosened. All I’m saying is that the improvement is astounding. Keep it up
He has improved a lot, but he has a team now which does a lot of things for him, helping him do more impressive things and still have a regular upload schedule. Also a lot of the impressive things he has in his videos are mainly done by his team, such as a lot of backrounds.

He'll never see this, but the one issue with making a schedule is that only really works if you don't have anything that can constantly disrupt it. Basically he does this for a living so he has the time to set aside. I work a retail job so I can have food and power and stuff, and the commute and work while not stressful, does leave me a bit physically exhausted. I've found I can't simply come home and muster the energy for 'personal projects' though I try my best. Hell I barely game anymore as I just don't have the time or energy.
Bro, stop the excuses. I believe you can do it. So fcking open your calendar and make an event for next monday 8 pm. No matter what come you will do it. If you don't do it now, then you just don't wanna do it. That's what my grandpa was used to say
@opinion Yeah it's hard to find time when you have so much to do. Right now my work schedule is like 11am to 7pm, and I use a bicycle to get to work. Which takes an hour. My day consists of getting up, biking to work. Working on my feet all day, then biking home. I'll have a few hours after I get home to do anything, usually cooking dinner. I try to write some when I can, but I'm just so burned out from the day. I get two days off, but Saturday I have a stream I do in the morning, and another at night, with choirs/groceries in the day. Only real day I have off is Thursday which I also do a stream that night. Sadly a lot of times on that day I just can't muster up the energy to do a writing project, and would rather just unwind and relax. Sleep in and that stuff. There just isn't much time for me to "schedule" time for a project like he says to do in this video.
@@sirdave48 Ha, I'd be just getting off work at 8pm next Monday. :P I appreciate the support, but read my reply to opinion on this comment. I know it sounds like excuses, but to me it's just me being honest. I already have so much going on, there isn't much time for something like this, and it's not something I can just put a date on a calendar and do. Likely, as with the date you just gave me, I'll be at work. Best idea I can think of is to cut one of my streams, but I'm not big on that idea. Those are what I look forward to, for getting me through my weeks.
@@Videomaster21XX 11AM TO 7PM sounds like a crappy shift. You can change to something earlier like at 6 7 or 8 that way you have more time to do whatever. Idk if you can do that on the fly but you have the power to do it and if you think thats too early go to sleep earlier as well.
The solution is not that hard, do your goal first, instead of staying up tired after coming home from work until 11, go right to bed at 9 , get up at 5 or 4 AM and do what you want to do FIRST, then no matter what happens later you have won that day! good luck to you, love brother!

I can agree with James a little bit on here. I've always had creative thoughts and ideas but even sometimes too lazy to do it. But I've also been in a couple of short stories and I'm working on a book that I've been working on for like 2 or 3 years (or more.) because sometimes motivation isn't there. Now trust me I'm not a professional writer or reader but I have been told by a few that I can write decently. But I would like to post my stories on the internet but I don't know where to stay if anyone has any ideas or advice please help me out I would really appreciate it. And thank you James not only for another amazing video but to let me see the light a bit brighter.
