- This is chaos. I wanted to see how The Sims 4's engine would handle tons of Sims in one residence to make hardware recommendations in the future.

I saw some unique behaviors while I was doing it, in how the game handled interactions and many activities, buffs, and deaths with so many Sims on screen.

Heh, even with a normal number of sims in a household the AI is dumb as a stump when it comes to self-care. It's almost a drinking game to take a sim to an acting gig or detective day and take a shot every time a sim at home is in the orange because they're TOO BLOODY STUPID to grab a bowl of chips or take a dump. Argh!
Oh, and the sim on the edge of the pool was probably running face-first into the 'ew, it's too disgusting to eat here' behavior. Can't really blame her... except, y'know, she was STARVING TO DEATH. Sims, amirite?

Exactly! And I can honestly say that the sims in sims 3 actually took care of themselves.

Im actually going to see a performance drop when I upgrade my PC for editing, so need to get videos like this out of my system. I have 5ghz cores to give it for now, but will drop to 3.5 with the new one.... but many more cores for rendering my videos and editing work. More important than this.

Grim showing up, looking around assessing the situation, then noping right out never stopped being hilarious. Hands down the best part of this amazing video.
It's like Lemmings, but with Sims. Simmings, if you will, on a perpetual "death choo-choo".

Between this and Gray's multitude of experiments, it makes me wish there was a trait in game that made people... not immune but if you don't know a Sim? Less effected by the death. Like... a muted reaction. The uncontrollable sobbing makes sense from family and friends. But strangers should probably just stop at the shocked stage? Especially if they're Evil or Mean.
The only way a Sim doesn't react is if it's an enemy and even Good sims will react with Elation to an enemy dying which is... really weird;;;

I know the extreme violence mod has the serial killer trait which sort of does that. But sometimes even your killer sims may still cry over someone.
It is weird. My sim is a spellcaster and it is less work then repairing her burned out beyond recognition furniture (which she occasionally sets on fire when she is bored) for her to bring a dead sim back to life. But yet she still stands there balling her eyes out just like the rest of them.
This was not pointless it was perfection. I laughed so hard I spilled my morning coffee all over myself and as a person who has taken courses and understands processor design and coding principals it is music to my ears to have a source of humor and knowledge-based discussion woven together. You, sir, are a true hero. To EA's defense, they started their design with backward compatibility in mind and I cross my fingers along with you that they have people on board who can advocate for better use of the capabilities of the machines as they move forward.
Thanks, Elaina. I feel pretty sure about 4 cores, but it was using a little of the 12 threads it had access to. Utilization never went above around 27%. So I think it was the scheduler sending work to various cores but never more than 4. Being capped on frame rate it seemed sufficient to make that call. I think 6 is the minimum I would prefer for my own machine.
Carl's Sim Guides so the game can’t multitask sims well. And pretty much the sim complain to much to get anything done

I kept wondering what would happen if you'd made their needs static to begin with. I live for these in depth "unnecessary" type experiment videos, this is the type of gameplay I used to partake in before my computer got too old and slow to handle all the expansion packs and I had to stop playing
this honestly seems like it could be a fun challenge: put as many sims as you can in one house, let them all die out one by one, and whoever is the last to survive is your new generation m/patriarch xD

Yeah, 4 cores at full speed and not able to tap any more.. if I had added maybe 50% more we'd be at 20 frames per second and probably still acceptable for SIms, but it seems like a wall you cant get past. Also, the more you had the less actions would be taken. I want to look into this more, as to why it can't think for more and use more cpu. It may be possible to get 40-50 working.

I'm laughing at this video, and like the footage of all those sims with herd mentality. I like the fights for the shower, for food. I thought the game-breaking "NOPE" of the Grim Reaper was very funny. xD And the comment about freaking out and washing your hands--that was very human.
I would like to see another video like this with 30 sims, on a smaller lot. The queueing up and the disasters that strike are so funny. The mob run to indoors made me laugh hard, as well as laundry everywhere and the woman who sat around the pool.
Alternatively, this video reminds me of the Asylum challenge. If I might make a suggestion, I think I would enjoy seeing you do that challenge as one-time video or a series. I imagine you could play the asylum challenge while having one or two sims of your own and do a twist. Instead of having seven other housemates, you could have fifteen or twenty--if your computer can handle that. It would both be a visual spectacle! + you wouldn't have to craft your own narrative! The game can create disaster after disaster while your sim(s) try to escape the asylum. Just an suggestion!

Sims 3- can simulate an eniter town of 100 or more sims once. Plus have other things like spawners and Sp runing in the background.
Sims 4- stuggles to simulate 50.
Last it makes for a funny video.
You make a point I didn't think of when someone else brought up 3. It has the ability to definitely simulate at least a few more than 4's planned to do... need to check that out :)
@@CarlsSimGuides I'm sure that townies arn't as deeply simulatied as sims in the active household (when they go into their houses they are put into a state of semi hibernation) but the fact that they never completely hibernate like in the other games and always exist physically somewhere on the game map while their AI is completely dynamic rather then scriped like other open world NPC's is something that truely fascinates me and makes me appreciate TS3 so much. I think the main thing that makes having more ative sims slow the game down is the dream manegers, as the more sims with active DMs takes up more CPU power.
I have 52 sims in my one household they don't act like that since I played them ever since they born, they grow up with manner and responsibility in their mind. They don't make mess instead they cleaning everything in our house maybe because they are family not just a random NPC. I'm thinking about adding more sims in my household but I think I need to reconsider it again because of this video 😅😅😅

The sim scooching her way along the swimming pool desperately trying to find a comfy place to eat had me wheezing. The Welcome Wagon nearly did me in. CAN'T BREATHE! WAHAHAHAHA!

Imagine an experiment that provided an adequate amount of needs outlets. More toilets, showers, fridges/stoves/microwaves, beds, etc.
Because one thing I've noticed is that Sims look for the closest way to boost their lowest need and if another Sim is queued up for that object there will be conflicts and the 2nd Sim to queue up will "forget" what they were doing and stand around for another 30 minutes.
This was hilarious. By far the most amusing Sim video I have ever seen, as well as being informative (my laptop would not be pleased so I cannot create such a thing myself). Far better than actual reality TV, I want to know the Sim that one your version of Survivor.
The Reaper going "nope, screw this" was probably my favorite part.
I have to admit, I think it's really fun to see a lot of sims in an area (at least, before they became a sad-pee death train). I kept thinking about how if it were possible to see bigger crowds on the world map it would feel so lively.

So normal about lagging when you enter any festivals in St Myshuno, esp. your controlled sim just stand and do nothing like a mannequin.
And when Grim arrives he thought, no, not Grey again. Grim didn't notice Floridaman is Not Here.
I swear it is only a couple sims breaking the rest. Because I see it on smaller groups too... but yet simulation lag mods don't fix it entirely.
@@CarlsSimGuides the modder hasn't update the mod quite long time. Also didn't code construction change each time the patch update? Hence make mod incompatible?

What I like most about your videos is the casual way you work in your extensive knowledge of the game's mechanics with the mayhem and silliness that is the Sims. I knew I had a good thumb on that God video! It did help me a lot, but working out my own style is super tough.... thumbs are shockingly important to how well a video does.

Make a video like this with a hand full of normal sims living with 50+ vampires.
Schrodinger's Sim instead of Schrodinger's cat, brilliant. This gave me a good laugh. I first learned about the theory in Star Gate. It's strange to see that the AI in the Sims four isn't all that good at keeping the Sims at least somewhat healthy, even if it's a modern game. When I get the game I'll really have to keep an eye on them. It's like setting a bunch of children loose in an unsuspecting world and forcing them to govern themselves. They may be adults on the outside, but their pixel craniums are full of air. I found in the Sims two that they didn't need much maintenance, but they were still highly efficient at setting the house on fire, even if they are good at cooking. Pyromaniacs the lot of them. I like how yours forgot what collision was. And the fact that they couldn't sleep with a bunch of strangers standing in the same room as them. Poor things, but still highly entertaining.

You should try this setting with a house a tiny bit more suited for so many people. I mean sure those house has space but only so little sources of interaction of each. I'd love to see how the AI can handle things if there's a lot more kitchens, places to have fun, beds, bathrooms etc.
Interesting...very interesting... Especially the way the game queues every single sim and the Grim Reaper giving up on doing his job.
I was really hoping Judith would join the torture party. I feel about her the way Carl feels about Thorne. Not that I like Thorne, but Judith liked to show up at the stores I was running and pretty much ruin my sales.
She's so snobbish, can't stand her either and used her in my celebrity revenge vid a while back... but Thorne gets under my skin. I guess all Sims 4 Celebs feel a bit narcissistic but he sets me off and I had some bad experiences with him covering GF.
Also, stealing "death choochoo" because I swear that even in a small gathering during a kava party, stupid vampires show up/crash the party and can't figure out to leave when they get warm, and die, and the whole party does exactly that! And heaven forbid they all be in party clothes, in some warm weather, because then they all start to die.)

I played a family of 8 twin sisters yesterday and even they could not take care of themselves considering it was only 8 sims even though they had plenty of resources to do so. Therefore, I am not shocked at all by the situation in this video. Nevertheless, it was hilarious to watch and listen to :D

This is one of the things I love about Sims. It allows you tot totally fail at life with zero consequences and one hundred percent comedic value. So refreshing to real life.
From what I have noticed even 4 sims left to their own devices can barely stay alive. A house hold with 3 adults can barely keep a toddler from getting taken away. I have no idea how they seem to get worse at talking care of themselves with each game....
