    The beginning and ending tracks (about 6m total) are a bit too loud by about 5db and I failed to notice this, but it seems salvageable. I am going to find a way to normalize these because they are all kind of different volumes and each time I do a video I am trying to set them right. This time, I just didn't catch it even though I watched it a couple times. I'm getting a bit numb to the music. I'll correct that. Thanks for watching anyway!

      Carl i understand your criticism, and i think you're right in many points, but for me i see those new features as merely options to someone that wants an easier gameplay, like cheats are, i don't think they necessarily ruin the experience for hardcore players because they can be avoided. From my point of view playing this game hardcore is an active choice of playstile and its ok to be like that, it doenst need to be the main playstile. Although I still agree with you when you say that gameplay mechanics need more depth.

    i really feel like they went waaayy too far with the buffs. like the positive mood buff is unecessary, the gardening buff is unecessary, the skill buff is imo unecessary. the bill reduction makes sense, and the relationship gain (especially going both ways) makes sense, but like you said, the fact that it works on any lot as long as youre playing with the active household makes no sense. imo it should be a moodlet from the lot type in a sense. like, i like the functionality and the objects that came with the pack, but the gameplay is too op.

    I agree that these bonuses are too overpowered. Most things in the game are too overpowered before this pack came out. Add that to the fact that things in the game are too easy to begin with and failure rarely happens (and seems to not have consequences) and it’s going to be no fun. The failures, struggling and challenge is what always made sims fun but it’s never really been in sims 4. It’s all too easy and all about being a party simulator instead of a life simulator. I’ve been one of the people really excited for more dynamic personalities and more intricate relationships. I hope they do the things they hinted at in the survey and tone back the buffs so the traits and relationships matter instead of whatever this instant gratification is with these buffs on overdrive.

    I’m a full believer that this pack is MAJORLY overpowered and needs to be nerfed BAD. I honestly expected everyone to feel this way considering people were already making comments about how the “study spot” trait makes skill gains too easy. But every video I watch, they make an off hand comment about how “its a powerful perk” and then never mention again. I was wondering when someone was going to point out “hey, we were JUST complaining that you made skill gains too easy with Uni. Now you’re gunna do it AGAIN with tiny living?

    • @ap0calypse5
      @ap0calypse5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      PiercedBitxh Aila It gives me the feeling that they are trying to include buffs in all the packs so that people who can only afford certain ones get to enjoy the benefits of that kind of thing. The downside is for people that own most/all of them now having ridiculously over-powered possibilities.

    • @ReadObituaries
      @ReadObituaries 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Julia Meadows that’s a really good point, actually! I never thought about that but that could be a possibility.
      Personally, I believe double skill gains AT ALL is too overpowered and shouldn’t be in the game. I just finished the 100 baby challenge and trust me- it’s not difficult to get all the skills (especially if you only have a few packs) fairly quickly already.
      Then again, I also believe the moodlets lasting double are too overpowered as well (mainly bc the regular moodlets are already overpowered). I don’t know.. I’m just noticing an uptick in “here’s a pack that will keep your sim smart and happy super easily so you can spend all your time building! Yay!”. But that could just be because I’m highly disappointed with the “tiny living” stuff pack and the fan service that it was. If the game was harder OVERALL then giving these perks to allow crazy buffs would make sense... but in a game that is already fairly simple, it just doesn’t make sense to have such powerful buffs. Especially when it’s not countered with equally negative buffs (I.E. the inclusion of the “feeling fine all the time” buff but not having a “claustrophobic” de-buff (I guess is what you’d call it? Idk lol)

    Thank you for your review of Tiny house stuff pack and for captioning this video, as I am deaf. The bonuses are powerful and it is well worth it for my sim or two to live in a micro house. with inclusion of lot traits, and clubs(you dont really have to spend alot of time concetrating on just skills). Thank you also for your advice on murphy beds, plan on building your sims handiness skill, start repairing and upgrading murphy beds as a first priority. Due to a prior video of yours having your sim have dance machine trait enables him to cut down on sleep via disco nap and you can fill your energy in lots of less time so you can max out the murphy bed before it breaks down. Due to being deaf, I do not really get notified well in the game when people visit etc so I build my house accordingly. I make 2 unconnected rooms. So I can see with the walls down. Here is some functional building strategies. For a starter home, don't bother with windows, make the roof glass instead. You can extend the roof out so weather does not affect the ground under the roof. The game does not count the roof extension as home squares so you can literally furnish inside the roof as you would inside the house. I think it is connecting walls, fences that the game counts toward home squares.

Take them home and plant one of everything. Research them all, it builds gardening skill as well as teaching you all the graft combinations if you don't know them. Look after your garden every morning after 6am, and when you get to level 5 gardening skill, graft strawberry onto snapdragon. When you get a dragonfruit, plant it. The first time it produces a crop, plant them. Also, fertilise every time you can, so they evolve faster.
      Welcome to becoming a multimillionaire. Orchids are nearly as lucrative as dragonfruit, and death flowers even more so, but dragonfruit are the easiest high-earner to produce.

    I think what Sims 4 is missing out on, in general, is that if you introduce something that makes the game easier in some way it should be through a NEW challenging mechanic. For instance, with the magic stuff, it's obvious that the curses and whatnot were supposed to be the new challenging thing to deal with in order to enjoy how magic makes other things easier. But with how easy it is to master magic you can quickly negate all curses extremely easily and thus all you have now is super easy gameplay.
    Likewise, with the tiny living, it's obvious that the challenge was supposed to be "Get everything you need into a small area" but once you've figured out how to do that then the challenge is gone. You now have all the perks with no continued challenge.
    Sometimes they get close to getting it right. For instance with the famous stuff. Sure you get all these perks to make life more interesting but there is also the other stuff you pick up that gives you a downside of being famous. Or being a vampire requires you to take some weaknesses the more powerful you get to balance out your new cool powers.
    But even when they are close with things like the famous stuff, they still fail in that it's SUCH a hassle to become famous and remain famous that you then look at the perks, and almost everything they offer is the stuff that you could get with other means. Like "Star Treatment" that makes things free. Seriously? Free? Money is so easy to get and that's your level 5 perk for having a positive image? And most of the high-level perks are all geared towards making money. Sure that's cool. But at the same time, it feels lackluster for the effort you have to put into maintaining fame.

      @Codraroll 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think that's the challenge of designing The Sims in general. As somebody said somewhere (I think it was Carl in one of the Super Sim videos), The Sims is ultimately a needs management game. The core gameplay loop is to help the Sims realize their aspirations while taking care of their needs. However, with all the bonuses accumulated over the various expansion packs, managing needs is now almost trivial. Managing money is almost trivial. Gaining skills is almost trivial. Gaining friends is almost trivial. All the bonuses erode the gameplay until you end up with Sims that never need anything, succeed in everything they do, and if they want to do something new they'll master it over an afternoon.
      You're spot on in that things being made easier (or perhaps, more convenient is the right word?) there should be a challenge to balance it out. Something to strive for even with the various bonuses applied. But how to make something that's both a challenge to obtain, even factoring in boosts, and also worth the effort when you get it, but without breaking the game? Most of the gameplay systems in the game have money or convenience as their ultimate reward, but when you stack a few of them, you'll be rich enough to afford anything, and the convenience reduces the core gameplay loop to nothing. It's a real challenge for the designers.

    Did you watch the livestream?
    I'm Norwegian and when they said they based the content on our word "HYGGE" (which you tried to say😂) I couldn't stop laughing bc it sounded like "hoogai". Like, it's so far off that I didn't get it until they actually spelled it. I was like... What's hoogai? It was funny though, and they said it a bunch of times 😂 👏🏻👏🏻for trying though Carl😉
    If you want to know about the word "HYGGE"; it's a feeling. Not something you do. You can "hygge deg" alone, with friends, with family, outside, inside. An example; you have just made some chips and dip, maybe opened some wine, you and your friend/family member and you sit down in front of the TV just watching something together - the good warm feeling you get. Or; you take a blanket and a book, sit in the cozy corner, and again... with wine (ofc😂) you just sit there feeling content, relaxed, happy and with a warm feeling. So, perhaps something like; chilling, feeling content, relaxed, and a good warm feeling, all at the same time. That's "å hygge seg" 😉

    A quick outline I managed that hits 31/32 tiles:
    Draw a 5x5 box building.
    In one corner, 2 tiles from the corner, go diagonally 2 away from the center, 2 to right or left, across the diagonal center line, and back to the building on the original diagonal.
    I use this corner for the bathroom, and it leaves basically the entire 25 tiles of the main box for living space.

  • @NitroNovae
    @NitroNovae 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually made a two story house as a micro home,
    You build the first floor and use that floors roof as the second floor
    Then I added walls but didn’t close the room because it would close it and count more tiles
    I just clicked on the unfinished wall and dragged it closed with the arrow (like how we can drag the fence length)
    It’ll close the room without adding new space
    The only weird thing is that your second floor won’t have a roof tiles (cause they’ll count) but adding a roof will fix that.
    Found this by trying to build a house for the first time with the pack, hope this helps some of you.

However, I never expected my Sim to become good friends with a stranger, who knocked on her door, only after talking to him for a few minutes. It's a little late, but I can actually speak about this better now since I have had the pack to play with it. Something just rubbed me the wrong way about the bonuses, too. There felt like no real negatives to tiny houses and large disadvantages to normal houses, but really it just seemed wrong in my mind that small house immediately equates into happy life.
    After playing with it, though, despite its arguable attempt to change my building habits, I play much the same way. I had an off the grid build that started from a camping build all the way back from Outdoor Retreat which fit perfectly into tiny living. I actually had to add house tiles. I use the bonuses for plants and not much else, honestly, and it works.
    In retrospect, it seemed bigger than it was. When used and abused, it can be crazy, but at least for my normal play I don't care enough beyond a major garden lot.

    The murphy bed gameplay seems quite annoying, which is dissapointing since it's the hero object of the pack. I can't imagine it being used in the future by the community, since it takes up the same space as a double bed and is one more click away than a regular bed for a Sim to sleep!

      If they'd built a fold-down dining table and chairs into the back of the murphy bed, or even a flat screen television, that would be more to the point. It needs to give you more than a bit of clear floor space when it's stowed. We don't have Murphy beds in Australia, we have fold-out couches, so the object is useful in daytime when you don't need the bed.

    Lol, definitely little more long winded with cute story. Also, very informative about some of the benefits that I wasn't aware of for this pack! Still on the fence since I'm not really into "tiny home" living.
    Also, I'm the opposite in terms of making the gameplay itself more challenging. I always like my gameplay to be a little less challenging because EA DOESN'T KNOW how to make it challenging without it becoming too time consuming at the same time. If they could just figure out a balance with that, then sure, but look what they did with Strangerville and Discover University. I was only able to finish Strangerville faster with your tips and cheats (thank-you). But I haven't played that with more than one sim and I'm already bored with completing classes with DU because takes too long to graduate if you consider how one may want to play more than one or two sims at a time.
    Either way, I guess I fit in that category of players you mentioned who like to use the game for building because of this issue along with the lack of pre-made town builds available like a real grocery store, mall, car dealership (in sims freeplay), subway or airport, fashion runway, etc.,. Thus far, I've had to build them but it would be nice to have them in the game.

    You have good points, I believe the buff could be much better, maybe it could differ depending on traits. I believe a materialistic sim wouldn't feel happy all the time about having a small home. But maybe a sim that loves outdoor would have more benefits of it. And some things might work everywhere while other things only on lot and some things only inside of that lot. Makes me wanna learn modding even more now, just to fix this buff 😅 and in this pack it could have been perfect to have a claustrophobic trait to make them feel very uncomfortable in the smallest houses/rooms... We need more drama in the Sims life.

    the micro home bonuses are way too high, the welcome wagon neighbours that came over were almost immediately best friends with me. it was kind of creepy honestly 🤣

    We can build our own tiny homes on regular lots and just use the tiny home build stuff cuz it's still cute.

    Totally agreed with the question of whether this is the beginning of a trend where bonuses eventually render the game unplayable. The addition of all these lot traits feel a bit like an endgame where they're basically throwing all the answers at us and making the game super easy so we're all ready to jump ship by the time Sims 5 comes out. :/

      Lot traits really couldve been fun tied into a system where as you gradually improve you might make that lot more special over time. But just slapping them on, and the newer ones being more powerful is a bit of a missed opportunity. I feel they should cost something, maybe large sums like 5-10k+. To remove a bad one, you'd pay as well!

    Careful about the 'everything is fine' buff, I have had several sims die of hysteria in tiny homes because of the buffs to emotion.

    Hey Carl, thanks for the video, I was just wondering if I might have not got the newest updated patch? Could you tell me how to fix this? Thank you 😊

    Is it possible to combine the tiny living lot bonuses with off the grid to make the latter more tolerable? I really wish they'd give off the grid some love so it isn't *entirely* negative, but maybe the two would balance each other out.

      Same, I'd love it if the devs did some polishing to the Off The Grid lot trait
