I have 1,000 feet of Leyland hedges and I'm getting old at 73. I build a box out of 2x6's with a pallet on top and plywood over the pallet and bolted it to my tractor bucket. I lift it into place and use a ladder to get into the bucket when I'l alone. When I have a helper - he stays in the bucket and I move the tractor along. I'm to old to work on top of the hedge, but good on you.
This video inspired me to start my own business. Love it. Not so easy starting up during winter and pandemic, but I'll get there. Thanks Jason these vids are really inspiring.
One of your best videos yet !! I tend to get caught up on using the whole cutting surface on the blade. Seeing you define with the tip of the blade was a good reminder. Thanks for sharing .
Great video, with some great tips so thank you for sharing. We have just bought a house with a similar sized hedge. I had my first hack at it over the weekend and I'm sure I'll do a much better job next time thanks to this :)
As a Landscape gardener myself, I don't use the decorating sheets, I use the big black plastic sheet,, when it's wet the cuttings move much better into the ton bag,, and its easy to drag along any surface..
wow thanks for sharing your thoughts and process. awesome job. I just did my hedge, and it ended up much puffier than yours. My arms started hurting half way through too. Made me take many many breaks through the process.
I've been using scaffolding netting. On most small ish hedges i just roll the netting up with the cuttings in. looking forward to using the fruit ladders i picked up soon. thanks for sharing
That was some tidy job we have some big hedges like that bout a 100m or more, robbed me off my teen years the damn things. Just treated my self to a husky pro battery cutters so looking forward to getting stuck in again. Great work sir very informative vid
Nice job Jason. Hopefully you don't need to do these very often, that thing is beautiful , but huge, and looks very nice once you finished all the trimming. 😉👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks neusa 👍, it's a good size hedge, it only gets trimmed once a year, I'm a bit sad as I quite like these big hedge jobs. Hope your well and all good your way. 👍👍👍
Hmm so thats what ive got to look 4ward to. 10 times harder work than cutting lawns.. rapidly becoming the most sort after hedger in my area.. but im too cheap..30 to 40 euro an hr simply dont cut the mustard on big jobs. The 283cm longreach hl94ce is hard on the back..i prefer to use the stepladders all over that hedge you just did with a 24 or 30 inch standard trimmer, Get a real nice finish but no wonder im dead im running up and sown the ladder moving it everywhere hanging off it in every direction .. must learn to use my hl94 with more confidence..i only use it to trimm the top back that i cant reach. Really love your tripod .. thinkin its a 10ft henchman
Nice. I have the same hedge but probably only a couple of meters high. I am trying to cut the sides back that have half obscured a path but I have only been able to take it so far because it’s kind of empty inside now so if I cut further I’ll just be left with bare thick branches, losing the covering green layer and all the privacy, if that makes sense. I have no idea what to do now, any tips would be great..
@@JamesBrown- the biggest problem with conifer, you can only remove a limited amount, go past green and it will not regenerate, its a difficult one, open path up, but retain hedge, something needs to give and unfortunately sounds like a decision you can only made
Great job although that's 15 minutes of my life I won't get back. You've inspired me to put my prices up. Same finish but I'd have smashed that out alot quicker. Still a great job though
Such a great job. I’m curious as to why the homeowner lets it get so tall. It kind of looks ominous and foreboding being that huge. You have a very calming and gentle voice and easy to understand. Some of the British accents are hard to decipher.
Get a thing called easy lift harness it takes it off your arms like a cup a lot but the plastic in the middle brakes a bit so that’s the thing you’ve got to get reinforced
I don't listen to music, either, while working, cuz I tend to start "dancing" which, while fine in itself, doesn't work well with cutting hedges, trimming grass, etc. Lol!
Jason, as you’ve used your stihl kombi systems for a while now, Which do prefer out of Husqvarna or Stihl, I’ve finally reached the time where I need a stronger machine, I’m not sure if I should get Husqvarna or stihl, please can you help me? Love this video and your channel!

I hate using sheets when hedging. You have to do piece by piece, if your not going straight on your first pass, you have to put the sheets down again. You also have to keep switching between sides and top + cleaning up and hedging. My advice is to just lightly rake it, and use the rake with a snow shovel to pick up the clippings. Then lightly blow over it with the leafblower. Raking is an art. Everyone his own tchnique, result is what counts👍
Hi Jason sorry to trouble u u have quite high conifer trees hedges they do need which area are u in I do have some one to do them its possible but it is a main road which we could put some bollards
@@jasongardener3425 good to know. sometimes, despite working very hard to a good standard and as quickly as possible, it doesn't seem like the end result justifies having taken as long as it did and I feel anxious of the customers response to how much they owe me! Do you ever feel like this or have you ever had a customer like that?
Thanks mate. Yes, I too, perfer to cut line in from the inside, but on this one I decided to go by eye (guess lol) as customer wanted to retain max height, but level, quite a enjoyable one to do. 👍👍

Thank you, I really appreciate that, I don't pretend to be the best, but I always try my best.

Just done some conifers at work . More on sat . So much easier with new blades . Lovely job sir !

Thanks mate, I was quite pleased how the video came out, never feel you have to use a cut a perceive way, always cut how your happy too👍👍
Challenging hedge another great job Jason. Enjoyed your video.
Cheers mate 😀👍
Great job Jason great camera angles so therapeutic watching you
Cheers Mack 👍.
I was pleased with the footage, a bit of a nightmare to edit though, 30+ clips.
Take care mate 👍👍
Very nice, detailed work! You have tons of patience. Well-done!
Thanks mate 😀👍
Nice job . When I first started I done hedges like this with shears but that was 35 years ago
Great job Jason, I too work from right to left, I don't see any problem with putting the cuttings down the middle they will all break down.
Cheers mate and keep them videos coming 👌

Don't step back and admire your work until you have got off the ladder though!! Nice job and not rushed!

Cool 👍
Hi Jason, just come across your video as I have just got some new tripod ladders, seen a few of your videos now great content. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for that Jason, very enjoyable, now to get my arms tired.!! Doing my conifers.

I cut a large hedge like the one your doing its started to go brown in the middle do you no why its gone like that
Your a professional mate! All the best you certainly deserve it. Great job
Thank you Paul 😀👍👍
Top job as always Jason, the weight of conifer cuttings never ceases to amaze me ! 🙄
Thanks mate.
Very true, also very easy to over fill bags and regret it lol

There's no rush, always have a break if you feel you need it, nice one 👍
Love your videos, I can't believe the hedge would hold a person.
That's what I thought , seems bloody dangerous lol
But he is the hedge master , i bow to his knowledge.

Your enjoy the ladder, over the normal ladders.
👍👍👍👍
@@jasongardener3425 got a big conifer tomorrow so get to give the 3m a go.
Nice one 👌
I don't like cutting conifer but they do finish up good when they're cut well and this is how you cut them well......always enjoy your hedge vids 👍
Thanks mate 😃👍
Personally I use the Stihl HS 87T hedge trimmers as I don't feel the blades move fast enough on the long reach trimmers
Jason has mastered the art of working smart.
Your work is so precise, so inspiring and so relaxing to watch. I really admire you! Greetings. Be safe.👍🏾

Wait, your name is Jason Gardener, and your a gardener? 😂😂😂 love it
I know a John Plumber who is a plumber.
If you followed in your dad's footsteps and his name was Jay it would be perfect.
Good job mate 👏🏻

It's crazy, how some people want these massive hedges.
😀👍👍
Great job as always! Very therapeutic!!
Looks great.
Any tips or concerns about vibrations causing damage to circulation.
Hi Jason that's a great job you did say the top clipping you leave on the top? I'm not surprised your arms may ache that hedge is big 😀
Thanks Carl, happy trimming 💪👍
great job I do it mostly like you, but only start with sides and do the top has I go along. Where you get the wee bags look a great job ?
Thanks Simon👍.
Amazon, search mini bulk bags 500mm ×500mm

Grand job mate!
Thank you mate👍
Conifers sting like he'll when they get in the eye.. but it doesn't look like your taking it back enough?
Inspired me to finish our 14ft monster leylandi, great job.
What helmet are you using?
Nice Job
Nice work, quite a monster but you got it looking beautiful.
👍
What a beast! So you did that in one 8 hour workday???
Yes, did it in a 8 hour day
Petrol a Parker 4 in 1 thank you for getting back i only used it a few times
Try turning the drive shaft of the hedge trimmer attachment with a pear of pliers
Is there anything better than decorating sheets that can be used ???
Super job, looks fab

The hedge master, we’ve all done that with the top
Cheers Tom, doing the top like that, isn't always the perfect way, but sometimes the best way.

How tall is the hedge & the ladder, what brand trimmer do you use ? I have a 1.8m hedge on top of a 1.8m retaining wall, its a pain to trim.
I think it was about 13/15 feet, 4.5m-5m

What's the max you can trim with electric strimmer?
Pretty much, as much as you can reach
Ok i will try that. Thank you for your help i let you no how i get on.

What's the advantages of having a rather thick hedge compared to a thin/normal one?
Hello. What is your scaffold please?
Hi, it's a 10 foot, tripod ladder (hendon) 👍
Thank you very much👍
Is the 10 foot OK?
What about the 12 foot?
Thanks
