    20 year Air Force retiree here. Never got shot at, never slept in the dirt and never ate a single MRE. Got my own dorm room to my self without a roommate. I deployed to Italy 3 times, stayed in a 5 star hotel, got $80 a day in per diem and a free rental car. Air Force gets by far the most money from the government so Air Force folks have the best facilities and are treated the best. The chow halls are amazingly good compared to other branches, almost as good as a restaurant.

      The Air Force is kind of picky about who they hire and keep. They prefer collage grads in good physical shape even for the enlisted positions for good reason. The trade off. Maybe you could do just as well or better in the civilian world if you have a STEM degree. Note: Less than 15% manage to climb to the 20-yr military retirement platform.

    • @xyzxyz6406
      @xyzxyz6406 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@77space-vt8wi Correct, the Air Force has the highest standards because they treat you the best. Most people join other branches because they couldn't meet the AF standards for enlistment. When I joined all you needed was a GED, no college, and that hasn't changed in 2024. If you meet all the requirements they'll let you join. It's black and white, you either qualify or you don't. College degrees don't determine if you can join the AF or not. Unless you have at least a BA most people won't do as well in the private sector compared to the AF. My son's been in the AF for 3 years. He makes $62,300 a year or over $30 an hour, he has full medical and full dental for 100 kids if he chooses to have that many, and the job security is the nearly the best in the country.

People pass out from little to no ventilation in areas of the ship. No water for showering or drinking, dirty bathrooms, fire zones and stuff like that. I’ve lived in it 2X and I was either living in my car to get away from it, getting a hotel or crashing with a buddy. I had a barracks at one point but it was condemned shortly after due to asbestos, and low inhabitable standards. If you are on a flight crew you will get plenty of travel. AF definitely lives better than the others. I was an Army helicopter pilot. 3 years active and 26 Reserve and National Guard. Our “travel” was 2 weeks annual training in a hot, humid, Army post named after a Confederate General😂. My friend was a Load Master on an AF C-130 and flew to Italy, Spain and other places that people actually WANT to go. Army pilots are lucky to catch a ride in the back of a 2 1/2 ton truck from the flight line. The Air Force has crew busses. The AF treats their aviators like royalty. The Army, not so much.

      not so much that, since a lot of people aren't even thinking about "quality of life" or transferable skills. I think a lot of people join the army simply because they don't know enough about the other branches (and there still isn't a whole lot of crowdsourced clear detail put in perspective about them) and that the army is the easiest and fastest to join due to it having the lowest enlistment standards (a lot of people wanted to join in a hurry and couldn't qualify for the other branches anyway)

    I joined the AF in 1963, probably many decades before you were born. Interestingly, I would agree with the majority of your assessment on the various services. I spent 20 years in the AF working in signal intelligence. Many of my assignments were at locations that did not even have airfields. I traveled extensively, and ended up in locations most people never heard of. I also did several assignments with Army, Navy and on occasion Marines on their bases/facilities that did the same type of intelligence work. I thank my lucky stars that I chose the AF. While in the AF, I obtained an Associate of Science degree from the Community College of the AF (a great opportunity and benefit). After 20 years in the AF and retiring 37 years ago I went to get a BSEE and an MBA using my GI benefits. What I've learned in my life is that there will be buttholes in the military and civilian life as well. Ignore them and press on. If they are you superior in the military, just do what you have to do to stay out of trouble. Eventually either you or the other person will move on and the problem is gone. In the civilian world, there are usually opportunities elsewhere. My take on the military branches goes like this; the Army and Navy are administered as you would expect most traditional military organizations to be, the Marine Corps is more like a cult, and the AF is run more like a corporation. I'm not sure what to make of the Coasties. Never had much contact with them. I do know that in times of war they become part of the Navy. In fact maybe they are now and no longer part of the Treasury Department?

    Air Force takes top honors for living conditions. On a deployment with two Air Force guys, 82 Marines and Sailors stayed in lare double wall tents in Tamp during the summer. The AC units they used were so good you had to use an extended cold weather sleeping system to survive the cold. The Marines and Sailors were pretty happy with that. The two Air Force guys had one of those tents to themselves, and were given hardship duty pay for that. Had those been GP tents I would not have been surprised, but we got great tents to stay in during the job project.

    • @golfery5119
      @golfery5119 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd imagine that in Air Force you'd probably have more time for family since your deployments would be shorter (at most six months compared to at least nine months in Army) and you would't have to go to the field as often (if at all) and if you do go to the field you probably wouldn't be staying in the woods for as long (I doubt most Air Force people who go to the field would have to stay there for at least half a month at a time like Army soldiers do). So the Air Force might be a good choice. You just have to get past the recruiter.
      Of course you can always do guard or reserves if you don't want to do active duty. Keep in mind that if you do Army guard/reserves, you would still deploy for the same length of time as active duty Army (again, at least nine months). You probably know all this already though. Good luck.

I want to help people, i have experienced a lot of losses in my life, my mother at age 13, my grandpa at age 11, my grandmother at age 17, i was powerless to help them while they were suffering from cancer and other illnesses, my devotion to help people and make a difference is why i choice to join the army

    Yes I’m aware it’s a highly selective job like most special warfare jobs but it’s the one I’m aiming for and I may have a chance because right now (according to a CCT friend) the Air Force is treating SR (special reconnaissance) like its baby and they are super focused on getting the best people into SR cause it’s only a few years old.
    I am relatively physically fit, but stubborn, perhaps a tad arrogant but I have good physical genetics and I keep myself healthy + workout all the time (calisthenics with bar, bands, parallettes) although I don’t know how to swim (yet) and solid proficiency in that is one of the requirements.

Sitting in MEPS listening to these kids oorahing and hooahing and talking about how badass they were going to be for their chosen branch. There I was sitting there with my “Hi I’m joining the Coast Guard” sticker badge, the only one that day as it were. Well these kids eventually saw my sticker and unsurprisingly started to berate this choice of branch as I’m sure most could imagine. At the time I was 6 months out from ETS from the Army and assigned in Spec Ops. I was former Infantry with so many identifiers I lost count. Anyways, I said nothing, just reached into my wallet and presented them with my ID card that showed I was a NCO in the Army. After they realized I then asked them “ Now what should that tell you?” They sat down and stayed quiet the rest of time in that room.

I eliminated the army and Marine Corps right away. The Air Force (at that time) didn't have a good promotion record (I saw some retiring at 20 years as an E5) and they wouldn't guarantee me A school. I ended up joining the Navy and getting what I wanted, except duty station). I didn't regret it

      @@moldyrefrigerator I'm in the Army myself, but I and many others admit that we did research before we joined, but we didn't have clear information packaged up like some of these videos that have just been available recently. Had we had videos like this then so many of us would have joined the Air Force instead of the Army.
      If you're somebody who doesn't know which branch to choose, after seeing information like this and getting word from actual people in the Army like myself, then it really should be a no brainer to join the Air Force instead of the Army. Yes there’s opportunities to advance and do cool shit like Raven Unit, K-9 and master-at-arms but that’s *after* spending years doing mind numbing boring stuff along with submitting a request. I think the educational benefits vary from branch to branch. It's up to the Secretary of each branch of what they get. When I was in the Marines they paid 75% of TA. When I went into the Air Force they paid 100%. Both required to maintain a C.

    A pretty good video overall. My background was as a Marine Infantry GySgt. Now retired. My list included earning dress blues, my DI cover, and seeing combat and did all three. A couple of observations though; First, no one goes right into any of the branch's special ops (and yes each has them, to some degree) you go in to a field, then are screened and if you make it past screening, you go to school. I'd say most of the ops schools have around an 80 to 85% FAIL rate. Second, a lot of recruiters don't tell you, but they guarantee you the school not the job. It's up to you to pass it. If you fail your school, you're not out of your contract, but you may end up learning how to cook for four years. Now in the Navy and Marines (not sure about Army or Air Force) the Marines have what is called B billets, and I think the Navy calls it Neutral and Shore Duty. My two B billets were the Navy Base Rota, Spain, and four years at the Navy Air Station in Bermuda (now closed) While doing those various duties I was able to get a lot of education in as both bases had University of Maryland and City College of Chicago. Overall, my recommendations to youngsters I talk to are 1) Navy, see the world, get a solid job skill, never see front line combat (except for special ops, or those MOST AWESOME Navy Corpsmen assigned to the USMC) 2) Air Force, great everything but limited travel for most, kind of like being a civilian in a lot of ways 3. Marines, I spent over 16 out of 21 years overseas so did some traveling. 4. Army. Similar in many ways to Marines job wise but limited overseas bases to get stationed. As a whole, I would not recommend the Marines unless I personally know you, because even though the retention rate has gotten better I still hate to see youngsters fail. Hope this helps some.

    When I tell young people which service to go in I say if there is a conflict in the world who goes in first. Marines go first, then the Army. The Navy will fire from ships and where are the Air Force enlisted people? Waiting for the jets to come back - only officers fly the jets.

    The Coast Guard, still a well kept secret hiding in plain sight. So many from other branches re-enlisting in the Coast Guard (If they can, it's much like getting into a good college).
    So what does that tell you? Maybe they get it right the second time? Even so, it's not for everybody! Having been in the CG, better you get your CG info from someone who has been in the CG.
    I enlisted 40 yrs ago. From the looks of TH-cam videos, basic training is much easier now (Co-Ed, 8 weeks instead of 12, and more PC). But I suspect the job is harder, now that they have gone
    from DOT/DD to Homeland Security (Add that to what they were already doing). Salute to this channel, some don't even mention the Coast Guard.

    I'm not fit for the Marines yet, and I still have time until I'd have to go to boot camp. The main reason I want to join the Marines is the brotherhood they have. I'm still not 100% sure which branch I'll end up joining, but Marines is high up on that list.
    I know I want a field in engineering, preferably aviation.
    Another big reason for me to want to join the Marines is to be able to work on the F-35B. VTOL Fighter Jets are insanely cool to me.
