    they bypassed the heater core....maybe its leaking

    You have to realize that they are built for work, rather than comfort. Yes, you can get AC and even automatic transmission if you don't like the shifting, but they are about driving a few kilometers from your house to your rice paddy or garden, and maybe hauling a rototiller or a rice combine. A kei tora in NYC is a ridiculous mixture.

      Interesting about new york. They are everywhere in Tokyo and Sapporo. Small means maneuverability.

    As others have stated the heater core has been bypassed due to leaks OR the heater core is plugged. Most radiator rebuild shops can recore a heater core and have it back in a day or 2. Cheaper and faster than buying from overseas. (And I am speaking from experience with my JDM Mitsubishi Delica L400)

    Sounds like the choke might be stuck. Also might need valve adjustment. Tight valves, will cause raw gas to blow back thru the carb

    I knew that I wanted a street truck. My research lead me to the Honda Acty. I'm very happy with my choice. Getting a van means reclining seats and plenty of room. Seating for 4. Full upholstery. A tachometer. The 5 speed allows me to drive at 110/km/h, which is tolerable. The rear engine makes it reasonably quiet. And parts are easy to get compared to a non Honda. I wish I'd gotten a clean, one owner Limited, but I've found a clock, and the body color bumpers. If a street truck is your goal, I 'd certainly consider the Honda Acty or Subaru Sanbar vans. Leave the high geared pickups for the off road guys.

    yup. get a huge rim. throw off your gear ratios and speedometer. destroy your gas mileage.. burn through your clutch and work that 658cc engine overtime with plenty of preignition.. PS: Your redline is nowhere near 10,000 rpm. it is 5700rpm. Yes it is still a TRUCK, even though it is a Kei. You're getting horrible mileage because japanese people drive these things at 60Kph and it does not see 100+Kph on the highway like you're trying to make it do. Get yourself a tachometer and set your redline to 5700rpm. You will see your noise will coincide with this. IT does not rev high and if you ride it at it's appropriate speed, you will see that 40 miles per gallon in normal, it does not get bad mileage, you are speeding and shifting very late. Treat it like a big rig that is very slow instead. Yes shift early and get to 4th and just chill out at 65-70kph. in fact, you can shift to 4th or block shift as well.

    You should make sure that heater core isn't leaking before you hook it up. You could have a hot mess in your cab otherwise

  • @metubeslave
    @metubeslave 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    it is not for speed, or for comfort or for looks, it is an utilitarian mini truck, to move things from one point to another, for delivery, for work within big warehouses, and it does a perfect job, like no other country can provide, very versatile, very economic, very reliable and long lasting.

  • @maxjohnson1758
    @maxjohnson1758 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If it's bypassed, it's likely because the heater core is leaking. The good news is, it really isn't all that hard to swap out a new one and it doesn't even have to be the exact one it came with.

    Takes me back seeing a video about this van.
    Used to work on a large golf complex in the UK and we had 2/3 of these for carting stuff round (only vehicle we could get down some of the tracks bar a mower/golf buggy). Absolutely hated these things with a passion 🤣 everytime you hit a bump it genuinely feels like being in a boat in a storm (regardless of what you're carrying in the back) , they have a very high centre of gravity and your knees are the only crumple zones (especially bad for me at over 6ft). That said it was always a giggle trying to see how fast you could go on a straight 🤣. I'm glad I never had to go on a public road in one all the same

    Its a lot warmer in Japan most often and Kei cabs get as warm as they do smelly of gas. Rises off engine compartment into cab. Owner disconnected heater core so he didn't have to swelter all the time.

      @@Waybeforethefame They'll still top out at around 110 on flat ground, but they are MUCH happier at 80-90, so they'll cruise our regional highways all day and not feel over stressed.

      @@Waybeforethefame yeah, here in Vermont (America's DMV) one DMV office didn't want to register my Hiace van because they though it was a KEI vehicle. My advice is do not share your enthusiasm about your vehicle, the people at DMV don't appreciate it. Show only the essential paperwork (registration form, bill of sale and VIN certification ONLY) Tell as little as possible about the van. If they ask you what type of vehicle it is just say 'Van or Pick Up' .....I wouldn't even say 'minivan or mini truck'. Mini trucks here in Vermont are not legal on the roads but I'm gonna fudge the paperwork, outright lie and hope to get it registered. Sure, huge polluting Bro-Dozers are ok but mini trucks no? FUCK THAT !!!!
