You've probably already solved this, but here's a good answer FYI:
If you ever need to replace a brake cable and its housing, you can easily buy them at any bike shop. Together the parts for each side would cost $5-15. (Basic quality will certainly suffice.) Perhaps the bike mechanic would fix it for you. However, it's a simple replacement for any handy person. If you DYI, I recommend having the shop cut them to a proper length because ordinary cable cutters or dikes tend to maul the cables and housing, instead of the clean cut that you'll need.
