As the parent of an Autistic young man let me say that trains are one of the top loves of Autistic children! My then 5 year old son would stand on the platform and yell "HERE COMES A TRAIN" for every train he spotted in the distance, the others on the platform would laugh and watch his delight in seeing his beloved trains. Some nice variety even with only CSX and NS providing the trains. The story about Brownie is what helps to make the hobby even .more interesting. Every now and then I'll be looking at maps and especially ones from the 30s thru the 60s where towns(even midsize) where tracks radiated 6 to 10 directions. Truly a hub in its day but now often down to 2 or 3. A tip of the hat to the participants and organizers of the Spartenburg group. Danny - Really loved the part with the Hub City Railfans. My son is autistic, & I have had him out railfanning since he was really young. He first enjoyed the Conrail that ran at the back of his grandparent's property, & now enjoys both the Clinchfield (CSX) and Norfolk Southern. It was a proud Dad moment when he first pronounced "Norfolk Southern" since he does not speak that well. He has loved the Clinchfield since the mid-2000's when we railfanned the south end from Erwin to Spartanburg. For those of you that may have autistic children (or know of someone who does) railfanning is a great little hobby! Thanks again Danny for all your hard work & great videos.

Yes, it's really amazing to see that people somehow find their own diversity and inclusion when joining in a common interest. No diversity training needed.
As a veteran Union Pacific railroader it warms my heart to see these folks get kids interested in railroading . If only the kids could get to ride in the headend locomotive for something like 50 miles or so they would have an experience tens of millions of people could only wish to be able to do . It gives a person the knowledge of what Engineers and Conductors experience every time they climb in the cab and what happens at rail crossings hoping and praying some idiot doesn't go around the gates or try to beat their train especially when there are multiple tracks . I've seen it happen and it's not pretty when their decision was dead wrong . Thanks for an Awesome video Danny .
I rode in a soo line engine while they built the train, then a short run to another yard to drop the cars then we pulled empties back to the yard we left. Also saw engine and car shops, a tour of the yard and tower. My friends dad was in charge of the yard. He arranged it for us. I applied for a rr job after but was never hired sadly. I applied to be a Brake man. That's a step to conductor which I wanted to be.
Made my day! Danny's videos are supposed to be watched on big screens with snacks and drinks. You are lucky guys to have groups and friendly railroads who let you tape trains and stuff.
We Welcome you to Lindale, Ga. anytime. We also have a Facebook page on the Lindale Train Viewing Platform. We are a historic Cotton Mill Town with a rich railroad history. Our town was named by an area resident who was riding the railroad through the town. We were named in 1830.
Having worked in the rail industry on/off since 1980, I appreciate this knowledgeable "fan". Lots of insights regarding history of the tracks & companies . . . and the industries that depend on this useful, not-so-anachronistic, method of transporting heavy, bulky freight at not-always-lightning speeds. The telefoto shots, from the overpass/bridges give one a great perspective of the scope of a small portion of the North American network.
Awesome job, love the train watching with all the info about the what and why about the area. By far my favorite to watch. Thank you for all that you do, I know this was a big trip with tons of editing. Hope to one day see you on the high iron.

For years we were the only ones, but in the last year we have had several teenager railfans come by and join us. They are now getting to be regulars at our Saturday gatherings, and I think that's great to have them with us. Carl

We had two children who loved trains. Thank you for sharing this, we used to chase trains down the tracks on the road to get to the next crossing where our kids could sit on the roof of the car and watch the trains from Spring City, TN through Chattanooga, TN Down to Rocky Face, GA. We did that many years ago. Our kids are grown now but they still remember! I can't wait to show them this.
How can you possibly keep a dry eye after the "Brownie the depot dog" story??? As always your videos leave me struggling for the words...The Cremo drive-in must've gotten the word that a celebrity amongst rail fans would be in town!
Oh neat! My city, Lafayette Louisiana, is also known as the hub city. Located on the Lafayette sub of the BNSF - originally the Texas and New Orleans - and then southern pacific.
@@Trackwalker1 Hello! I lived in Lafayette for about 7 years. The main Lafayette yard i'm not familiar with and not sure if there are any sights for that. However, the line running south out of town has many spots to see the trains creeping in/out of town. The main one that comes to mind with some open space to set up on is E Pinhook. Look up a store called Bargain Furniture. That crossing has space on both sides. Just south (like one block) is Spring St and Dorset Ave. From there, you can parallel the line on Highway 90 South past the air port and into Broussard, LA. South of Broussard, Hwy 90 takes a sharper turn south and the line then parallels Old Spanish Trail (LA 182 I think) All along this route are plenty of spaces to post up and get some good views. The line that leaves the Laffy yard and heads East crosses some sketchy areas of town and I dont recommend you go there. The line that runs West out of town and parallels Hwy 90 has endless places to post up and watch freight head in/out of Lafayette. If you're lucky, you just might catch an Amtrack. About 40m north of Lafayette is another busy line that parallels Hwy 190. I live next to this line in Eunice. Its busy. Trains all the time.
Thank you again Danny for another wonderful video. It brought a tear to my eye at the end when you said that "we are all not alone, there are thousands of us." I appreciate all the work you do in your videos and how amazing they are. Keep it up Danny!
A railfan since I was young, growing up in Cicero, Illinois, a block away from the railyard. Used to listen to the steam engines humping cars in the yard on the early days of the Burlington Route. Have watched your videos over the last ten years but this is my first time comment. Excellent videos and comments make your videos great. I worked for General Motors for 45 years, the first ten was for EMD. When I started there, order number 7198 had begun, the beginning of the most powerful diesels they produced, the DD40 X. It was sight to see these behemoths being moved, by being lifted and on the rails. I'm retired these days, live in northern Illinois, on the Waukesha sub, Canadian Pacific line, the former Wisconsin Central Ltd. Greg Inciardi.

Wow Danny, you constantly blow my mind. Keep it up. I like what you do.
Mr. Harmon, you are easily the best I've found so far. Great narrator, photographer and you are obviously very knowledgeable. Thank you.
i told you in the email. i will say it here. i love how you include the human element.
Made my day! Danny's videos are supposed to be watched on big screens with snacks and drinks. You are lucky guys to have groups and friendly railroads who let you tape trains and stuff.
what a great trilogy Danny! , loved the story of Brownie, as usual great work, hope to see you out there someday
hello michael
how are you doing hun
2:11 I love short manifest trains. International Paper, where I used to work for 5 1/4 years- wow. Many memories.
hello david

Another well narrated production! Thanks Danny, and keep well!
Great video! Great reminder that there are thousands of us railfans out there!
Side note: 153 also works Charlotte yard in Charlotte, NC. Great video!
Lindale, GA looks like my kind of town. Beautiful. Another great video, Danny. I was excited to see the notification.
We Welcome you to Lindale, Ga. anytime. We also have a Facebook page on the Lindale Train Viewing Platform. We are a historic Cotton Mill Town with a rich railroad history. Our town was named by an area resident who was riding the railroad through the town. We were named in 1830.
Looks like you had a GREAT time railfanning in GA an SC! Thanks for sharing!
The man will find a way to impress me every time.
Looks like you had a great time in SC! You’ll have to come up to NC one day! Making my weekend better!
Danny has the best train videos on TH-cam. Thank you sir.....
Always a great day when Distant Signal uploads!
It definitely is! -AZRails
Some delightful small towns. What a picturesque view at 4:40. And nice sound from the ACe powering up at 6:20. What a touching story about Brownie 😢
Danny’s a class act! Always neat and great info
I think it is so cool that railfan groups are formed. It is so cool to share a love of trains with others.
It is a sin to dislike one of Danny’s videos
It might not be a sin ... it might be that they are "denying their inner locomotive!"
@@nw24153ns they should be sent to jail if they dislike it
We Love you Danny!! You're a Great Man doing Great Work. What a wonderful ending to another perfect video. Thank you so much for being You. God Bless You Danny!!
I really don't think you are following trains. They seem to follow you. That memory marker for Brownie is so cool.
Thank you Danny for sharing your railfanning videos with all of us other railfans. I especially liked the fact that so many young railfans have a safe place to gather to watch trains! I'm in San Antonio, Texas, and several of us adult railfans meet almost every Saturday to watch and photograph trains here. For years we were the only ones, but in the last year we have had several teenager railfans come by and join us. They are now getting to be regulars at our Saturday gatherings, and I think that's great to have them with us. Carl
Thanks Carl. Sounds like you've got a great group going there. I hope I can get down to San Antonio one of these days.
Looks like you enjoyed a great rail fanning trip
of course dave i think he really did

Always a pleasure Danny thanks 😊
Oh neat! My city, Lafayette Louisiana, is also known as the hub city. Located on the Lafayette sub of the BNSF - originally the Texas and New Orleans - and then southern pacific.
You know any good spots in Lafayette to watch freights pull out of yard I might be going down there to visit a friend ! A spot people go too
@@Trackwalker1 Hello!
The 4th of July holiday weekend just got better with this video! -AZRails
Thank you and hello from Florida!
