    Watching all of the different railroad companies in this video reminds me of all the mergers that have happened in my lifetime. The one that is close to "home" for me is the BNSF. The Chicago Burlington and Quincy railroad merged with the Great Northern, and they merged with the Atcheson Topeka and Santa Fe, (every time I see or think of that railroad I hear Judy Garland singing that song from the movie "Harvey Girls). There are so many railroads that either went bankrupt or merged that it boggles my mind. In the future, I think people will see your videos and say to themselves, "So that is where that came from." You are preserving railroad history as well as entertaining the next generation of railfans.

      Closest to me is the Northern Pacific, which merged with the CB&Q and GN into BN (now Burlington Northern & Santa Fe)

    • @colinmulder6806
      @colinmulder6806 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have to agree. Even though I lived in Florida since 1994, I mainly grew up watching Santa Fe & Burlington Northern as separate railroads. I didn't think the merger between them was even needed or necessary. Both railroads were making profits with their mainlines & a variety of their fleet of diesels to accomplish them. Truth be told at first, I never had anything against the mergers between 1996-2000 but when they began replacing their original power with AC'S & GEVO'S I changed my mind. Not to mention the current logo & paint scheme not in my ballpark.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I miss the SP. Their livery was kinda boring, their stuff was always old and dirty, all of which made their trains look bad to the bone. I also grew up with UP and BN, but something about the SP just hit different. Might be due to growing up in 4449's home town. I was so sad when I heard they were getting swallowed by the yellow guys.

      I'm on GN and SOO territory. Not just the aforementioned BN merger, but now the big CPKC event. I'm fine with it since that means they'll be sending down The Empress right through my town!

    This railroad chase reminds me of a time I was with my grandfather who loved railfaning (and so do I now). We watch a CSX come through Thurmond WV, switch off the main line onto what is now RJ Corman short line. The switch lead directly over the New River across an iconic RR bridge. This train was loaded with lumber (not cut). We followed that train all the way to the lumber mill in/around Mount Hope WV. He filmed it backing down into the mill and the security guard walked up and spooked us! Let us know we couldn't record the facility, he was polite and understanding that we were just railfans. It was such an awesome experience. Unfortunately my railfaning grandfather passed away just before Christmas 2021. I'm so glad I found your page and I'm happy to see other railfans out there still getting after it.
    Also Thurmond WV is an awesome historical site from the age of steam. It's a quiet town now with CSX coal and Amtrak still running through it. Amtrak will occasionally make a stop during the summer season to allow passengers to tour the old train depot and station there.

    I love the Rockmart area. When I cycle the Silver Comet Trail from a trailhead in Cobb County to Cedartown, I like to stop and take a break in Rockmart by the NS line to watch passing trains.
    Just to the South on the trail is the old Brushy Mountain Tunnel and an old 250 foot tall rail trestle that trail users ride/walk through and ride/walk across.
    The next time I'm out that way, I'll grab some 4k footage of the trestle and tunnel for you to use in a future video Danny.

    I hope you enjoyed Cartersville, Danny! It's been my home for as long as I can remember. You were actually very close to my old home around 5 minutes in. I always found it amusing when my mom came home upset about being held up by the locals!
    A great place to railfan in my opinion is either the ex-W&A depot downtown, the first ever Coca-Cola advertisement painted on the Young Brothers pharmacy (L&N cantilever crossings here!), or under the shade of the big bridge.
    A sort of unrelated note, in the industrial park spur on the other side of Cartersville, there's a TrinityRail facility that still runs an Ex-Southern SW1, TILX 1014, painted red with a Georgia Bulldogs logo slapped onto the cab!

As this was before the internet and sat nav. One day the navigator in the leading car made a mistake and we ended up in somebodies front garden. On another occasion we got stopped by the police. As they thought that 3 cars driving through Oxfordshire villages filled with people with cameras was suspicious. Normally we would go to three locations in the morning and two after lunch.

I'm a Seaboard Air Line collector (HO model trains, too) so, it's nice to hear anything about them. You got a cool sign! I've got plastic bottle-caps with the "Seaboard System" printed on them. I took interest in the S.A.L. when I learned I was related (my dad's grand-mother), a 3rd cousin to Robert E. Lee... which was also a name for one of SAL's passenger trains. I've got a bunch of boxcars honoring name trains, Silver Meteor, Orange Blossom Special, Silver Comet, as well as "The Robert E. Lee" trains... also "Route Of Courteous Service"... then I took a liking to the Atlantic Coast Line when my daughter loved purple and ACL's E-Units were colored as such.
    October 25, I turn 53... I better get some boards down and run some trains.

    Danny, This is where we do most of our motorcycle riding and train watching from. We have been to alot of these backroads on the bike. It is a beautiful area.

    Love that area! I used to live in Kennesaw and I would ride my motorcycle from Marietta, Kennesaw, Acworth, Emerson, all the way up to Cartersville chasing trains, enjoying the beautiful scenery, and great riding roads. Thanks for sharing!

    I use to work EMS in Carterville and the amount of trains through there was a nightmare for us, but o am very glad to see a group of people get to enjoy them! Some cool along the line is Going north out of Cartersville almost to Adairsville by Kingston Ga is an old concrete plant that produce concrete for the Brooklyn Bridge along the main line.

    At a little after 19 minutes, I saw the drone and was hoping to see that footage. I almost cried with happiness when that footage came up only moments after. Gorgeous! I love your work and your narration. Thanks a million, Danny!

    Your videos are always amazing to watch! Now being up in Canadian National country, it is very refreshing to see railroading in parts of the USA I have not been to. Thank you for sharing your railfanning adventures.

    A great video Danny! I met Travis, I think it was 2012, in Austell, GA on a trip to the SE USA from the UK with two friends Kevin and Trevor. We had a great time and I still follow Travis Newman and his buddy Steve Hardin on Flickr. I am bursting for a trip to see more US railroading, hopefully next year, having been confined to barracks by COVID-19 for so long.

    As soon as I heard the question about having insurance and the reply of liability only I knew it was a Twister reference. My all time favorite movie! Thank you for sharing your railfanning. I don't get to do any of my own so I appreciate the quality videos you post. I'm also in CSX and NS territory up here in Northeast Ohio.

    Very nice! An education in railfanning from all of the folks! I am not quite sure what the use of a road slug buys - more traction, yes but seems like a strain on the overall power. Beautiful scenery and great views. Always interesting to scan the articulated cars. A nice invention! I look to see if there are sets of 3 or 5 as they roll by. Thanks for this adventure - chasing is a lot of logistics and a lot of work :)
