That 'Gacoan' noodles are indeed very cheap, even for us Indonesians. When they first open their stall in my area, the queue was very long, because it's one of those viral foods that got exposure on the internet, and for how affordable and tasty it is.
those birds are not for food, those are homing pigeons. people kept them as pets and its quite a popular hobby. delivery food are usually cleaner and have higher standards because they can be penalized if you got stomachache and report them to the app. you can get cheaper delivery by paying about $0,5 subscription fee and you get 60 discount vouchers / 2 weeks. quite handy if you are in Indonesia for a long time and often order takeout.
Damn, I wish I knew about the discounts when I visited as we ordered takeout a lot. I did get bad reactions to food a few times in the trip as a foreigner so good that others are able to give feedback
Ooh yeah I've heard you serve a lot of foods with sambal kacang/bumbu sate? I think I've ever seen an image of fries with bumbu sate and kecap manis. As a Javanese-Indonesian, that's bizzare IMO, but very interesting.
@@way9883 Yes Dutch people eat a lot of sateh/peanut sauce with their food, especially fries. (look up 'patat oorlog'). But there are also more interesting Indonesian inspired dishes, look up 'rijst tafel' for instance. Or very wide and long kerupuk (lange kroepoek).
we use peanut sauce on a lot of things. raw salad (karedok) /cooked salad (gado-gado and lotek) dressing, indonesian siomay (stemed fish dumplings), batagor (fried fish dumplings), ketoprak and kupat tahu (rice cake + fried tofu + vermicelli + bean sprout), cilok (tapioca ball with many different fillings)
Yep, idk how you did it! Besides the pizza, all of the Indonesian food looks legit, cooked well, and it looks like something I would enjoy myself. And I know how a lot of westerners love “real meat”, but bakso will forever be my fav comfort food!
you should've combined the choco and cheese martabak man, that's how most indonesians eat sweet martabak, choco peanut and cheese, i recommend u to try egg martabak too, duck egg and extra meat, some places even has mozzarella as the topping.

Believe me, if you spend $10 in one day you will be very happy. Everything is cheap in Indonesia. All food is only $1-$2. The most expensive is only in well-known restaurants.
Yeah when you're there it's all very cheap even accommodation, but if coming from the west the flight is what will set you back the most. From UK for example you can expect to pay anywhere from £560-1000+ depending when you travel. That's 3 years ago info it might be more or less now
there is a reason why we got so much rice in nasi padang, because there is some philosophy that take away nasi padang is for whole family to eat together, and thats why there will be not so much rice as if u dine in
8:32 I know you were joking but that birds aren't ayam (chicken). They're burung merpati (pigeon). 😂 And the thing that the old man sprayed to those birds weren't water, that orange sprayer bottle looks like disinfectant for avians to me.
Jimmy I’m Cuban-Chinese married to a Korean man you should try Cuban food theres a Cuban spot in Seoul you will fall in love with our food my men loves it and so my Korean friends
Cool to see you walked on the street Jl. Karet Sawah and the area near it… 😮😮😮 for the Rendang Beef maybe is hard to bite, i think it’s better bite if you buy from popular brand restaurants. But it’s ok for experience it too 😊😊😊 sometimes we can get the soft one too.😊😊😊
Food are cheap in Indonesia because our wage is still low. For instance in my city, the minimum wage for most office employees is roughly 300 USD/month, mind you when I say office employees, I'm referring to "mid-tier" ones, as others aren't so lucky and had to scrape by.
Those noodles aren't stir-fried tho. Mie gacoan is a relatively new kind of street noodles. Boiled/blanched noodles mixed with sambal, kinda like Indomie.
stop by at SCBD area at late night to enjoy Jakarta's nightlife. many cool bars to chill there, also don't miss H club it's the biggest nightclub in SEA iirc.
Quite a lot of the delivery food vendors in Indonesia are actually regular restaurants that opt-in for the app to increase sales. The mindset is that they're essentially takeaways, so the quality should be of the same standards as their restaurant counterparts. If the taste is bad on delivery it's probably also bad on dine-in lol.
Hi, Jimmy. I believe the reason why Nasi Padang have so much rice in it because in Minang culture they believe when someone buy a take away Nasi Padang that means they will eat it together with at least another person. Thus why a lot of Nasi Padang restaurant will add more rice to your order if you choose to take away. It's their culture.
