I owned the exact same rifle. Take an cartridge and load it half way into the loading port so that the round is holding the port open.. let it sit like that for a couple of days. You will find it much easier to load once that spring mechanism is relaxed a little bit.
Thank you!!
I always wear leather gloves when shooting/loading my lever actions. Peace, Love!!
Nice rifle !. I was just looking at one, some cool stuff you can do to these.
Just want to test rifles .223/5.56, 7.62x39, .308, and 30-06 rounds. On your next plates evaluation. Thank you posting.
Shooting tin cans doesn't make a big mess....I love my Miroko Winchester 1886 in 45-70....
I think Alex is the only person I have seen who is small enough to get almost 100% upper body protection from a a vest
XL size and she got bulletproof tent.
Safety first I guess
Every female marine at MCT
Wow, how cliche...I mean thirsty 😂🤣
It's meant to protect your vitals not your entire torso.
One of the ammo channels just did some testing with the .45-70. They had the 405 grain bullets sailing straight through two ballistic gell blocks. That was 32 inches of gell and the bullets were never recovered. Not bad for such an old school monster eh?
Modern .45-70 ammo is very different from "old school" rounds from the 19th century. It's about twice as powerful
I believe that standard 405 grain factory ammo basically duplicates the original BP loading since there are original (antique) rifles as well as modern Trap Door rifles and carbines that need standard pressure .45-70's to be safely fired...
I remember when Larry Vickers and the other guys on a panel were shocked when you named the 45/70 as your favorite rifle 😎
For the inevitable invasion of ceramic plated buffalos, prepare yourself.
Lmao
Don’t forget the deers! The deers are wearing Kevlar vests!!!
it's not nice to call ATF agents buffalos.
Well this is the first of your videos I’ve seen but I’m in love nothing like a beauty shooting guns to restore a guys faith in humanity
@@shazmodeus2795 nah dont say that. thats an insult to the buffalos.
Without a doubt blasting a protective vest with a 45-70 lever action puts you firmly in the #1 spot of coolest gun chicks! You never fail to amaze young lady!
Minimum safe distance from hard targets is a real thing. If you keep ignoring it, eventually it will bite you.
Tru that! I've had large chunks of 12ga slugs come back looking for an afterparty.....😁
The fact that you just blasted through about $100 of precious 45-70 ammo using one of my favoritelever guns, a couple armor plates & panels, and a case of beer for our viewing pleasure makes you a top contender for new favorite channel in my book. You had me at 45-70! ❤
The pure, raw power of 45-70.
Also don't forget that "762 AK" isn't the same as 7.62x51 which is way heavier .
45-70 is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!
This is a solid point many people get confused about. I have even heard people in the military refer to both "7.62" rounds as if they are the same in power and range.
Nope 556 goes right threw 5/16 inch steel plate. AK round nope. Shot many.
Raufoss rounds were available for Barrett.
M21 is good 7.62mm but still taking M240. Thing is a great weapon.
The vest will stop the projectile, but the blunt force trauma to the torso will be debilitating.
The .45-70 is a monster. It also reminds of the state Trooper that was recently shot in the chest at point blank range with a .44 Automag on the side of the road while he was helping a stranded motorist. I still don't understand how he basically walked away after shooting and killing the criminal.
No shit Sherlock.
@@JonFoster48386 The adrenaline kicking in probably had a huge factor. I bet he was sore when it wore off.
She has the best chance of surviving in that regards.
@@TRoutdooradventures Yes she does, yes she does.
Cracked me up. You went through a bunch of rounds of 45-70 without any issues, while a couple of my big bad co-workers whined like little *itches when they shot a couple rounds each out of my Trapper. But shooting perfectly good beer? We need to chat about that.
I can't lie, after shooting 20 rounds of .45-70 Buffalo Bore through that same rifle my arm looked like I had been run over by a damn bus!
@@JonFoster48386All the more impressive that Alex can hammer away with that cannon.
It was Miller High Life🤮. Perfectly acceptable to shoot it.....
Dude, it's just Miller. I didn't see her shoot any good beer.
@cloud5buster It's like crime. It starts with Miller and then escalates to more egregious beer violations. 😄
You should run the test using the hot loads I used to fire in my model 1895. They were 405 grain bullets loaded to give 2000 ft/sec; I called it my poor man's elephant gun
I don't really know, they were loaded by a friend. I don't even know what pooder he used Nut it was what they had back in 1970@@joeschmoe8320
Buffalo Bore?
Damn that's awesome but that sounds like a strong action like a Ruger #1 or Siamese Mauser would be more ideal
I've loaded the 405 grain bullet to 1700 FPS from a 22 inch barrel, NEF SB2 rifle. I've often if the soft nosed round would act like an old Britisg HESH round on the ceramic plate or the SAPPY plate. At any rate the kinetic energy has to go somewhere. Either way it's gonna hurt.
The 45/90 hull is the same length as the.458 win mag, and the 45/120 is 3.25 inch long. I have loaded the 45/120 to the low end of the.458 speck and with 510 grain bullet chronigraphed 2200 fps . That is a hard hitter.
OG Gun Bunny with another quality video! Gotta love the 45-70!! Well done!

45-70 Marlin is my favorite rifle as well especially pre-1992. Excellent quality construction and a beast of a rifle. Your test just confirms that when you positively absolutely have to stop anything and everything it’s 45-70 Marlon.
In the movie “Wind River” when Jeremy Renner used his 45-70 to shoot the bad guys and they went flying across the trailer they were in looks pretty accurate to me. 45-70 is in my opinion the best stopping power under 338 Lupa and 50 caliber.
Wind River was a fantastic movie and is the reason that I got my pre-Remington Markin .45-70 1895 SBL. I love that rifle.
As much as you've been brainwashed by F cked up Hollywood movies making you believe the 45-70 is as powerful or more power than a 50 BMG I have to break it to you the 45-70 is the weakest of 45 cal rifle cartridges.
The 458 win mag - 458 Lott - 460 Weatherby far out surpass in power of the 45-70.
To prove even further you've been brainwashed is you believe bullets have stopping power!
Bullets kill by shock of nerve system - stopping the flow of blood and oxygen to the body not some BS of stopping power.
.45-70: the legend of lever action rifle's. Modern-day powder and ammunition have made this cartridge quite the powerhouse. Good video as always.
Great white tail round for brushy areas.
@@gungadinn I agree 100%; brush area's don't bother .45-70 so much unlike a conical bullet which can cause it to wander off target or possibly shatter.
I love her point on the armor being high enough on your body. The problem I have run into in the army is soldiers will put in their plates incorrectly and have them too low on their body. So I usually like to give a gentle punch to right around their collarbone to see if they have their plates in right. Lol
A sucking chest wound will educate them.
Love your Marlin lever gun Alex. I have a 2016 Remington made Marlin 1895 CB 45-70. It has the 18.5” octagonal barrel, semi buckhorn rear and gold bead front sights, 6+1 rounds, American Black Walnut forearm and buttstock. It has been super accurate and no malfunctions for 1,000 rounds now. Just clean the barrel every 300 rounds with a bore snake and she is ready to go. Nothing like a 45-70. My favorite ammo is the HSM 430 grain + P Bear rounds. With 1081 FPS and 3,098 foot pounds of energy they are perfect for practice with increased recoil. If you hold the forearm with a medium purpose and push it lightly into your shoulder all you will realize is a gentle push no matter how robust the round. The reason people experience Un pleasant recoil is because they hold the lever gun too tightly like with a death grip. This causes a shooter to realize all the energy which is completely unnecessary!!
I wanted one of those Marlins, but got a great deal on a Henry. The 45-70 is alot of fun
45-70 may not have gotten through but that bunt force trauma would’ve been real bad
Oh yes that will still really frick someone up, dare I say possibly fatal depending on the person.
The nice thing about the .45-70 is if one thinks the target is wearing a vest, just aim for the upper leg. Story over.
Called the pelvic girdle. Lots of important structure and plumbing
Finally got myself a 45-70.
At my brothers testing it out, first shot we did, at 115ish yards, at a target dummy we strapped to a tree, that was about 1-1/2 thick... We made the target thick, supported, making sure it wouldnt knock over.
We didnt account the bullet to go through, and snap the small tree in half.
One hell of a round.
3:41 Alex pog😂
Jokes aside I like these videos. So satisfying to watch a ballistic vest tearing apart by a bullet (without people inside. No Russian)
I was dying laughing about the phone in the backpack during the shoot. Sorry your phone is broken though!
Sure you did
Those 45 70 has always been one of my favorite rifles sweet shooting guns...💪👍
My SKS 7.62MM Shot right through a vest with ceramic plates steel plates and carbon fiber web fabric. One shot went right thru. Front and back pockets in the vest.

try the 45-70 on a ballistic dummy wearing the body armor and the lvl 4 plates, just an idea🙂 Great video as always alex🤠👍
You’re much more fun to watch than some of the other people doing this stuff on TH-cam ❤😂
Love seeing u shoot at these random things. That 45/.70 is Soo powerful. 👍🇺🇸
As someone whose used Level 4 plates, that thing is heavy as hell...not to mention carrying the matching side plates. I had to carry that with the IOTV vest with quick release rip chord. with your IFAK, Plates, 6 full magazines (5 green tip mags and 1 full armor piercing mag) 2 magazines of 9mm youre close to 60lbs alone (thats not counting the other crap you gotta carry for mission). But stopping a 45-70 is impressive. I did see armor piercing AK-47 round penetrate a soldiers level 4.
Yep speed defeats armor. The 45-70 just laughs and cracks all your ribs at once. Man I want one.
@@BrianNicolichno need to penetrate when the blunt force stops your heart from beating😳

It’s so fun!!
@@Alex_zedra It looks great! Is that the only way to load it? Looks painful
@@scottj.7105Yea, that model has the loading gate as the only way to load it (other than putting one in the chamber). You can get some mag fed models, that are chambered in 5.56, .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, and I think some other calibers as well.
@@MalakaiSchuhart oh ok. Thanks. 👍
Henry model loads from both the tube mag and side gate.
Even with the body arming stopping that round, the shock wave of the .45-70 could still be deadly, it would do more than just knock you down.
I would like to see if the ceramic plate would stop the 45-70 loaded to maximum pressure for a Ruger Number 1, using a 500 gr. brass solid bullet.
been wanting to buy that Marlin 45-70 for ages 👍
Do it. There is no real reason to own one, but you'll love it just the same. One of my all time favorite rifles.
Awsome video! You and the Marlin 45/70 are awesome.
I've been shooting my old Marlin 45-70 for years and have the 44 and 444 versions. I've taken a number of Elk and a Moose with the 45-70, but it's too much for deer and smaller game unless the intent is to blow them in two. I have a Winchester 30-30 for deer and smaller game, as well as a bolt action 30-06 for those long-distance shots. The 444 is kind of useless as the 44 magnum has the same power, and hand-loading with a 220g Sierra FMJ is much more accurate. I keep the 444 on the wall; it's a pretty gun. There's not much the 45-70 won't take at under 200 yds. I go hog hunting here in Texas as often as I can, and I'll wait until I have at least two pigs side by side, preferably three, and kill them all in one shot with the 45-70 at 100 to 150 yards; the gun/caliber is a beast, to say the least!
My old Siamese Mauser in .45/70 does get attention at the range.
Great video as always. Being from Nevada we appreciate a great looking gal wearing boots and hat, you nailed the cowgirl look. :-)
Don't have to worry about penetration when it'll make the plates touch
I love those Marlin rifles. It was a shame when Remington bought Marlin and started to make those rifles with some quality control issues. I surely hope that the fact that Ruger now owns Marlin solves that
TBH I think getting hit with rounds more powerful than a vest can handle might be worse than not having a vest at all.
Check out ranger point precision and their upgraded loading port. Should make loading them easier
45-70 gonna beat the ceramic into next week
That marlin never was on the shelves and when it was the dealer over charging af.. I finally got mine after 2 years.. I got 2 of my top 5 all favorite guns now lol.. marlin trapper, q honey badger and q mini fix, sig rattler, and last but not least a mp7 (which psa is coming out with their variant)
You may well have invented beer bottle ballistic bowling at the plinking range.

It’s not the bullet weight, it’s the velocity that matters.
My brain went whirling when you said 45-70 and 115 grain. I almost died from math until you said you were testing a 9mm.
When I heard “beer cans” a part of me really hoped to see Bud Light getting shot up… there’s always next time
Show me on the dolly where the Bud Light touched you? LOL
@@Wolfpak765Dylan would love to touch you. Thats what pedophiles/rapists dressed as women do now.
you aScared of those non gun carrying transgender folks? ha
To load put left hand under the rifle and curl middle fingers up to hold the loading gate while feeding with your other hand. Only feed rounds to the rim which holds the gate open for the next round. Use the fingers under the rifle to push in on the cartridge while loading the magazine.
Stops the bullet but still crushes your rib cage.
So a basic 405 grain soft point leaves with a velocity of over 1300 FPS and the energy is just under 1600 FT-LBS. The Hornady 325 grain FTX bullet leaves with a velocity of 2000 FPS and the energy is over 3000 FT-LBS. I can not imagine surviving that...
7:23 The opposite of wasting time aiming. Time is of the essence. Shirt button precision is not required. Jolly good!
I have the Marlin 450 lever action, same stock, same chrome, same sights, same destruction (it is the kissing cousin to the 45-70) or the prettier obsolete sister.. LOL.. Its a real elephant, buffalo gun. Little Alex shooting that beast and not complaining about the kick is impressive.
Agreed 450 Marlin Best gun ever but ammo is non existant or $$$$. 45-70 still under $2 a round and is amazing rifle!
It wouldn’t even have to go through the armor the shock alone would cause massive internal trauma with the .45-.70
We just just return from our LGS . . They have this exact rifle . . If I remember correctly it was $1700 - ish
Lol theres a reason we wear the vest lower, #1 comfort it prevents chafing around the neck and #2 mobility. I've worn everything from soft armor as a cop, the old frag vests to current issue military body armor and plate carriers...
Not going to lye. part of me always thought you were just naturally "gifted" in that regards. And you kick ass with all you shoot.
4:31 remember Pistols rely on the jump of the pistol to eject the round

If you want to pierce body armor, you need Teflon coated rounds. Body Armor stops hollow points better then any other ammo.
I have shot Teflon ammo before. They are not what they say, they even have less penetration than non-teflon. I shot the nyclad just before they were outlawed, and could not even get through a Dallas phonebook with my .357, which they said would go through a New York Phonebook. My .357 store bought that were not teflon coated went through the Dallas Phonebook though. The fact is, you loose the coating by the time the bullet leaves the barrel and the fictitious benefit is lost. The only thing the teflon does, is allow a smoother travel through the barrel so you don't have as much friction resistance going down barrel. It fives the bullet no real benefit after that.
Teflon coated rounds were created to go through Kevlar. Going through stuff like phone books is completely different math. Going through a phonebook would depend on foot-pound's of impact. Kevlar could stop a .357, but it couldn't stop a Teflon coated .357 non-hollowpoint.@@dakwa1
I can't be the only one when the GFuel ad started and she said 'I want to go over a few things that people have been asking' who immediately thought 'ARE YOU MARA FROM CALL OF DUTY?!?'
A NIJ Level IV ceramic plate carrier may stop the bullet, but will not stop the concussive shock and internal injuries and potential hemorrhaging / broke ribs, even if adrenaline overrides the nerve pain receptors initially. Some Americans know the results very well.
A lever action Marlin will be my next gun, I was planning on 357 mag, but am now reconsidering... that was awesome!
