    When have you EVER HEARD a reviewer mention the sound dampening windows in any videos? I've seen around 50 992 videos at this point... at least. Some complain about the noise, but NO ONE mentions this option. This is why we Janko Lind!!!

      Harry Metcalfe tried a 992 without the noise insulating glass and it was too noisy for him. Then he tried a 992 with it and it was much better.

      First of all, thank you Ferdinand and drewmorg for contributing to OUR community.
      I've tested option VW4 on several cars and it is a must-have. Makes the car lighter 4kg and in addition, takes away noise that is not needed to connect to the car. My biggest question in this matter is why is this not standard?

Also, you need to remove your earplugs when you compare with and without VW4 lightweight windows., kidding ;-) but I feel an enormous difference and I measured a 3,4 DB difference with my phone (did not show this since I don't believe it is a solid instrument to use). Excellent video. Loved how you covered the question of 'PDK lag' and the effect of being in the 'wrong' mode in a PDK vs. just driving the manual. It's been years now and I must say, still cannot understand the fetish for the manual. Connection? Nothing disrupts my connection with the car like the weight balance disruption of shifting. PDK virtually eliminates this. Next to that is having to physically break my connection with the steering wheel taking my hand off it to shift. The only thing worse could be if I had to shift my body weight around, totally disrupting my connection with the car moving my left leg around. Porsche goes to a lot of trouble to design seats that connect you to the car. All lost the minute you have to move arms and legs around shifting.
    Also find it puzzling why no one ever mentions the one irrefutable and significant advantage of the manual, the weight savings. It is simply a whole lot lighter, and all this weight comes off the back of the car. Would think performance drivers would be gushing about that. But no. Not one word. Strange.
    Thanks for highlighting the lightweight sound proof glass. Without you I might have missed this option, or thought it not worth the money. Now it is a must-have.
    Great videos, by the way. Impressive. Content beats pace any day, and you have great content. AND great pace!

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Charles, and thank you for contributing to our community.
      In some areas you are right, the car gets lighter and as I have stated many times a 992 Carrera S manual is 10 kg lighter than a 997 Carrera. BUT, That's the beauty of connecting with a manual, letting the right (left in some countries) arm travel to the gear leaver knowing I've put the car in balance in beforehand.
      It is not right or wrong, I love driving my PDK but my favorite is manual.

    • @charlesmiller6281

      @@JankoLind It is definitely a different experience and you do make me wonder if longer term the new habits make it hard to enjoy. In particular your comment about having to think about what mode you are in. I really just want a car to drive. No stereo, no navigation, just drive. The car itself is enough. Especially when that car is a 911.

      Imagine you were playing a version of tennis where you carry around a robot holding the racquet and move it in range of the incoming ball, then the robot hits the ball with perfect precision all the time. How fun would that be?

    • @charlesmiller6281
      @charlesmiller6281 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ferdinandbardamu3945 Imagine you are on a road with many twists and turns, but none that require enough speed change to call for a shift. If for every turn you have to remove your hand from the wheel, lift your foot from the floor, move them around and put them back, will doing all this make you feel more or less involved and connected with driving? I was a PCA driving instructor where one of the first things we teach students is both hands on the wheel. For good reason.
      I totally get that some drivers, and even some dyed in the wool Porsche lovers, enjoy shifting, enjoy the mastery of a skill. Which with rev matching, hill braking, etc Porsche has pretty much robbed you of. Still, there is something to be said for tradition and habit. Which is fine. I can respect that. But if having to move around the way you do to shift a manual is "connection" and "involvement" then so is operating a radio, drinking coffee, and eating a cheeseburger. All extra activities it takes skill to coordinate with your driving. More skill and coordination than shifting, I might add. You can enjoy it, and that's fine. We should all have the Porsche we enjoy driving. That is after all the whole point of a 911. But you can't have it both ways.

    Another treat, thank you Janko ! You make an excellent point about the tyres. Here in the UK we don’t generally invest in winter rubber as the weather is too unpredictable, and many winters fail to deliver periods of sustained cold temperatures. What we are starting to see though is far higher rainfall during the winter phase, and this winter has been particularly bad. I have a Boxster T (manual naturally) and have found that I really need to be super light on the throttle application, it really is a struggle to get the power onto the road effectively. So your focus on the traction differences found in the Nordic winter tyre has got me thinking, and perhaps I need to consider a better wet tyre option for future winters.

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In Belgium the manual gear is only available as from the S-model. This means about 16.000 Euro more. If the manual should be available on the "base"-model, I think it would be selected more... When I bought my 718 Boxster the salesman tried to convince to buy the PDK. My reply was : "if I have to pay extra to buy the manual I would do it". I feel more connected to the car with a manual than with a PDK. As always : thank you for the nice video's !

    Another great discussion on Porsches. Man I love that Green with gold badge - wish I could see it first hand. My 992 has insulated glass, Burmester, 930 leather, PDK , PDLS+, and badged with simply "911". I absolutely love driving this car every single chance I get. I got the insulated glass to improve the Burmester, but I have noticed that cabin is filled perfectly with the engine soundtrack, so I often have the stereo off lol. I may have misunderstood you but, I do not perceive any turbo lag in the 992 PDK. But I am used to the 718 Cayman S.

The real problem we have here in Colombia is the exchange rate, as one dollar is nearly 4,000 colombian pesos, so in real terms is almost 4 times the effort. So buying a M3/M4 will cost around 400 million, in exchange rate is 100,000 USD, in terms of purchasing power it's like buying a Ferrari F8... so a 911 would be like getting a Lambo! 30+ years of 911 ownership experience and the #1 rule is you option up as much as you can afford on any 911. You will only miss the options you don’t have so regardless if it’s a Turbo S or Base model or Carrera S/GTS you option up as much as you can and then add some more. Porsche knows this and a low/stock optioned Turbo S still feels cheap without moderately optioned up and Porsche knows this. The halo model now is any “Exclusive Manufaktur” as these cars are finished with bespoke options at the end of manufacturing in a different area by hand getting special attention inside and out.

      I agree with you it would be a shame to drive this car in the winter in Canada not only for the salt and gravel they pour over the roads but the chance someone slides into your car because he or she didn’t spend the extra money on snow tires. Now you have an extra 20 % depreciation value on your beautiful toy.

    Excellent review. Just a question, do you believe the 992.1 will be the last generation with a manual or do you think 992.2 will still get one? Oh btw I am subscribing now!

      Welcome to our community Michael. Regarding the manual that might be the case. When electric power is introduced to the 911 in the 992.2 (read hybrid) I'm not sure if they have solved the possibility to fit a manual gearbox. Future will tell...

    Janko. I have a brilliant solution for the PDK lag. Keep the car in Sport! Saying that, and after much deliberation, I'll go with a manual for all the other reasons you mention in this excellent video. Think I'm going to spring for a Cayman GTS 4.0 for UK B roads. But am lusting after the GT3 Touring in manual.

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 992 GT3 is not for the UK B-roads it is a 100% track car. Stop lusting and buy a Spyder instead of the GTS 4.0. Thanks for watching and if you are not already, please consider subscribing.

      @@JankoLind Thanks for the reply. Enjoying your back catalog of videos. What tires do you recommend changing to in winter on a GT4/Spyder? I'm in the UK and am a little concerned about aquaplaning on those cup 2s.
