    What’s your favorite way to avoid streaks? Are you team foam roller?

      The roller is the way I was taught so hand lettering and vinyl would have a smooth surface.

    Stunningly beautiful, I was just on Pinterest looking for a new round dining room table. I was upstairs in my home watering plants,When I saw the basement of my father's old table in there went into the next room and found the top. Then I saw your video. Absolutely beautiful what you did to that table that looks almost exactly like my father's. Omgosh I found my brand new table for what's now my dining room left by parents thank you.

    You absolutely saved my sanity. After 7 coats of streaky, blotchy awful topcoat put on with everything you can imagine. Sponge, brush, foam brush, pantyhose over brush, I was ready to give up and throw my dining table out. Then I figured can one more application due more harm? I bought 6” foam rollers from Amazon, said a prayer and what can I say? THANK YOU!

      @@blacksheephouse it’s a little high but so worth it. My opinion anyway. And you paint with it differently. You brush it on and then take the dry roller over it to smooth it out. The first coat is what we all call the ugly coat. Then it gets beautiful

    OMG... I'm glad it works for you but I'm too OCD to deal with all that sloppiness. I watch a lot of videos where the paint is running down the cans and it's all over the place, their brushes are just slopped up... I don't get it. I can't work like that.
    Anyway it looks nice I wish I could feel it.
    The feel test is everything.

    The finish is just perfect. I've seen multiple flippers suggest putting a small amount of the paint in with the top coat to prevent getting a milky finish with dark colours but you've proved that you don't need to do that. Maybe, as you mentioned, some top coats have already been contaminated and that could be why the finish ends up discoloured.

    The reason why your method works is because you're using an hd foam roller. Back in the old days, I remember that my daddy used napped rollers and fine bristled brushes. We had to "feather" off the paint.

    Two questions:
    Where are you getting these large foam rollers because i can't find them at Home Depot or Lowe's. Is there a specific brand because I'm still getting roller print in the paint.
    This may be a dumb question but does it really matter the since/finish of the paint of it's just going to be covered in a milk or matte poly?

    Your Pottery Barn technique….. just tried it this week. Looks awesome but I did have problems with rubbing the dark glaze off when I was putting the natural twine on. I brushed the natural twine on and then used a rag to rub some off and I went all the way down to the rugged tan…..wasn’t rubbing hard. I was able to fix it but wondering if I should have waited 24 hours between the glaze and the natural twine?

      Hey there! I do use the same technique, I’ll be using the one step DIY paint on my battle of the sponges video next! I will say I would still apply a topcoat to a dining table even with the one step paint just to add to the durability and washability

  • @babyfat6677
    @babyfat6677 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Shannon, the table looks amazing! Always amazed by how good your products turned out. Btw, when you painted and rolled the foam roller, was the roller loaded with paint? Also do you use any pressure when applying the top coat? I always get lots of bubbles when I used the foam roller, maybe bc i applies too much pressure...

    • @babyfat6677
      @babyfat6677 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And, look forward to the foam roller combat! I desperately need this!

    • @blacksheephouse
      @blacksheephouse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! At first the roller is dry and I try to keep it from getting too much paint on, if I’m doing a large project I will swap out to a fresh foam roller as the other one gets saturated more and more as I go. I’d say you got too much pressure or too much paint on it. I also only drag the roller when I apply clear coat bc for that I always end up with bubbles if I don’t do the dip and drag method I show in the video

      Hi! No, it’s a table I did for a customer ❤️ that table I did before held up great! If you think your table needs an extremely durable floor quality finish you can opt for using oil based gel stain instead. I use that on another video, same look but I used aged oak gel stain over the primer and Behr paint. Strong enough fir floors 👍
