    I’m a Barcelona fan since 2003. I lived this episode.
    Eto’o leaving has nothing to do with his position. Eto’o had great football understanding with Messi.
    It’s more about the fact that Pep considers Eto’o a big head. Samuel publicly said he didn’t listen to Pep’s instructions during games because « Pep was never a great player. He can’t tell me how to move as striker »

      No first of all Pep was a pretty decent player but not that good I would say he was slightly worse then Sergio Busquets who I really do not rate and second of all his actually right the only person Pep didn’t give instructions to was Messi some could argue at the time Guardiola took over from Rijkard Etoo was slightly better then Messi before his real breakthrough in 2008

      Well if you don’t rate Busquets, i can’t even see how you could rate Guardiola as a player.
      Just as a reminder, Guardiola was the CDM that Cruyf built his dream-team around :)
      Pep always gave instructions to his players especially Messi :) it’s just that Eto’o had a big ego , plus the fact that him and Pep never clicked. So if Etoo is refusing to listen to the manager, it’s a huge problem that needs to be fixed even he’s scoring goals.
      But personally, i would have never let Eto’o go. If Etoo stayed we would’ve won UCL 2010 and we would’ve been the first team to do 3 UCLs !
      Plus, Pep only played Messi as false 9, in the classico which was at the end of the season

    He injured his knee in 2007 (against Werder Wremen I think) and it was probably around this time that Eto'o and Barcelona began to "separate".. Eto'o had some conflicts with Rijkaard (played as a sub for 6 minutes and he got a bit mad about that and he didn't want to enter the game the next matchday, etc) and he showed some kind of jealousy to Ronaldinho, who enjoyed the love from the fans more than anyone in that period. A couple of games later, vs Athletic Bilbao, Ronaldinho and Eto'o celebrated together. It was ok. A bit later, Guardiola was appointed as the manager and, as it turns out, he wouldn't have that (besides the tactical issues). It was harsh, but I think in the end it was better for the club. The player's contract would end in 2010 anyway. At Barcelona I think everybody loves Eto'o to this date. He was a good player, he was present at the big moments (he scored in two Champions League finals for Barcelona) and everything that he won in his overall career was 100% deserved. The treatment he had to deal with was not always ideal, but that's life... Sometimes it was partly his fault, sometimes it wasn't his fault. As for Guardiola, it was strange that he had Ibrahimovic and he didn't use him as a proper CF, but he used Messi as a false 9 instead, but now this decision has a historical value and it still has an effect in football tactics, but more importantly for (his) Barcelona it brought unprecedented success. So, who are we to judge him? 🤷‍♂️
    Zlatan was "sacrificed" but, incredible as it is, this was good for his career because he went to Milan where he won titles and (finally) became the league's top scorer. It is really incredible, because it worked for all parties: Barcelona played great football and is still regarded by many as the best team ever, Eto'o went on to win a second treble in 2 years (it even worked for Inter too, in that regard), Zlatan had a tough period at Barca (well... He scored a goal in each of his first 5 games, something that had never happened before at Barcelona. The following months were not equally glorious but he probably still had some very good moments by the end of that season) but it was with his departure from Barcelona to AC Milan that, in my opinion, Zlatan really became who he is today.

      you're such a liar. Eto'o has never been jealous of RONALDHINO, never.
      Problem was RONALDHINO not training, partying all the time, getting a past over and over.

    • @nektarioss
      @nektarioss 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@totomaxwell8080 hahaha I stated so many facts and you call me "such a liar" because I said what? That Eto'o showed some kind of jealousy to Ronaldinho? That's not something I(!) made up. You can read it on the Guardian. There is an article from 2007 where it's mentioned that he had "told confidantes that seeing Ronaldinho's likeness splashed all over the city can be hard to take". This is followed some lines later by the mentioning that Eto'o had been critical of Ronaldinho. They also characterized him as "soft-spoken but proud".*
      That was back in 2007, when all of these things were developing.. It's like a primary source from their then present. But even if we shouldn't trust this source, you can see that he indeed has an ego when he wants to make it clear that back in the days it was Messi that played with Eto'o and not the opposite. Now, I don't think that having an ego is necessarily a bad thing and I don't say it to accuse Eto'o. After all, what he said was true. And also I am not saying that Eto'o was feeling a concrete jealousy to Ronaldinho. But I understand that he was a bit troubled at that period and he ACTUALLY said some things, like calling his coach a bad person.
      I have nothing to gain by claiming that Eto'o was jealous of Ronaldinho (something that I never really said, because there is a difference between "some kind of jealousy" and "he was jealous of", alright?) but I want to shed some light on these incidents because his whole attitude must have played a role in his departure. Ok?
      As for you I don't know what acerbated you so much that you had to call me a liar. It offends me and I think you should think again before making such claims for other people you don't know. I hope I have changed your mind.

    Eto'o was amazing at Barça, but he couldn't resist to open his mouth. He was too blunt and straight forward and I love him because of that, but a team of that level can't afford to have a guy talking bad in mid season about team mates or the manager. That's why Pep wanted him out. He always valued him as a player, that's why when he stayed (because nobody bid for him) Eto'o played as much as Messi, Xavi or Iniesta. But they were always tense, even one game against Betis Eto'o challenging Pep in the field in front of everyone.

      Not really the Media BIAS makes a lot of Drama out of it.. The reality was Eto was actually good but not to the level of Messi, did you see what Happened to Zlatan? Zlatan was good back then but Guardiola couldn't fit in too many good players, did you forget that... Don't forget Barca Bought David Villa and he was FIRE.. So

    I will say I'm surprised Doctor Khumalo doesn't show up more in contention for best African player... not a massive presence in the mainstream but certainly an important influence, especially in the south

      @thisguyrighthere3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      how did pep make a mistake. ronaldinho was THE best or 2nd best player ever and he had no discipline so pep had to sell him. etoo wouldnt take advice or do what the manager told him. there was a video here on you tube where etoo says that he told pep that pep wasnt an attacker so he shouldnt tell him what to do... as a manager you cant work with a player like that, no matter if you are as good as etoo (not that i think etoo was good but he scored a lot of goals). the manager is in charge of how the team plays otherwise every player would do what they wanted and there wouldnt be a plan

    Ego is what stopped Barcelona from achieving even more success, only a season after David Villa was at the club. So Barcelona could of had a front 3 of David Villa, Etoo and Messi, including Pedro and others. They honestly could of had the same level of success as Madrid had in the UCL.
