i’ve actually never watched pearl nor am i someone who struggles with npd or knows much about it beyond knowing. it’s wrong to stereotype about people’s mental illnesses lmao. but this video was so insightful and i will research more into the ways npd is so often mischaracterised and your personal perspective was also really interesting. also i love your way with words your presence is so fun, thank you for uploading this i really enjoyed it
you truly put words to the feelings I felt as I watched the movie but couldn't put into words. I love your content and have been following since your 13th doctor video, keep it up, you're quickly becoming my favourite video essayist. from a fan and fellow trans autistic, love your shit.
im so late but thank u so much for making thisss . i had just stumbled onto ur video because i was curious if anyone else had thought that pearl is a npd coded character bc i relate to her a lot as someone w NPD . especially when u spoke abt the scenes when she kills the guy and her narc collapse at the audition. u really explained it so well
I just watched Pearl for the first time two days ago (haven’t seen X yet) and I felt it was obvious she had npd. I was only a little bit surprised to find people were just saying she was relatable, saying she’s “Joker but for the girls,” or relatable to people with bpd or autism. So I was THRILLED to see you posted this on tumblr when I looked there. Awesome analysis, thank you. ❤ It’s great to see content about npd representation (even if it’s not intended to be representation) from other people with npd.
To be fair, Theres a lot of overlap between symptoms of npd, bpd AND even autism. I’ve talked about this before by my autism very much interacts with my npd
@@mercurialrose oh yeah, I don’t want to discredit those readings at all. It just seems there’s so little understanding of npd that the moment a character becomes sympathetic or relatable, most people won’t consider it a possibility unless they have npd themselves.
very slayful, as usual. I love your analysis of Pearl's fisrt murder. I often get very emotional and upset during fights (especially when there is a power imbalance, like pearl and her mother, who has control over her) to the extend that i can't form a sentence or can only scream, because i feel trapped and attacked in the situation. And often in those situations i feel like the only thing i could do is to get violent since there is literally nothing else i could do. i never do or would, but i really sympathised with pearls reaction/state of mind in that scene.
Awesome video! I'm writing a character who likely has NPD, and I want to find out what sort of works resonate with those with NPD and which don't. Awesome - perfect for my research. Much appreciated. Your dress rocks, as does your name, and I hope you have many days which are as awesome as you (which is to say very). I'm autistic and didn't find any mental experiences/characters remotely like me in all the thousands if stories I read, and it was achingly lonely. And so in my books I'll do my best to create a huge variety of thought patterns and hopefully make the world a less lonely place.

Delighted that someone else had the same thought as me

Excellent video! I really enjoyed Pearl a great deal. The allusions to The Wizard of Oz were very neat, I thought.
I love your editing and videocraft
Thank you! Making title cards is my favourite part of editing :)
