Incredible Gameplay Review for Grim Dawn in 2024

- It's not too late to begin playing Grim Dawn even in the year 2024. This game is set to have a highly anticipated expansion Fangs of Asterkarn later this year. Some notable features of this game include multi or dual class characters that allow for tons of customization and the ability to replay the game without repeating a combination. As you level up you gain skill points to invest in abilities or classes themselves allowing you to further the uniqueness of your character. With an in-depth devotion system, you can specialize further to your liking.
With many familiar elements to other ARPG's like crafting, the ability to respec, fast travel and more you'll feel right at home picking this game up.

I think the best thing I saw her was the camera distance. It looks so much better than the current ARPGs that have recently been released.
I'm still really enjoying this as I progress through it. The camera makes me feel relaxed as opposed to alert like some other arpg titles. It's amazing how a subtle thing like that can change things.
The camera can also rotate 360°
true, just like titan quest camera view where you can also zoom, unlike new arpg where your camera angle is fixed and too close
just bought wolcen on a wait to quite interesting or promissink lootink? xile 2 v?v on the same hour almost as that big map diablo style epoch stuff.
wish me luck. well have thousands off hours in gd and well my most played game even with bl and fo´$. simply decent.
but not dropping least not as regularly needed as in d3 set items and rather ugly natural graphics.
yes hoping foremost maybe on titan quest. and bl4. and Föö 99? xP
This game is so good. Every time I play and find new loot, it makes me want to roll a new class. So many easy to find items are build defining and keep new playthroughs interesting. Deserves a lot more love than it usually gets.
Agreed, it's been crazy how many usable items have dropped. I'm constantly planning builds for the character that I'm playing and others from what drops. I'm not sure why it's less popular than some other titles but I haven't reached endgame yet and I hear that is a sore spot for it unfortunately.
@MinMaxRPG Yea, I don't think it'll blow you away as there's not really much to it TBH. I think GD's real strength is build variety, not necessarily end game.
@@MinMaxRPG 3 things: Shattered Realm, Crucible, Dungeons.
I have like 10+ endgsme builds and what I like to do is do for example SR80 and log through all my characters and see how they feel compared and while doing so, you get good gear for your current classes or already a new one. Which is the "main" endgame, create new builds/style fantasies and go after them and ser how high you can get in Shattered Realm.
This is the game I have gone back to time and time again every 4 to 6 months for years.
Many people make the mistake of only playing through it once on normal or veteran then stopping....This is a huge mistake as the game actually starts on ultimate.
There are hidden areas, hidden quests, hidden bosses, hidden achievements.
It doesn't hold your hand either, you figure it out as you go the first time through doing the best you can and then collect all the stuff to hand over for the next character to have a easier time of it......then it happens a piece of interesting gear drops for a old character or that makes you want to make a new one....and another....and another.....and another....then you look up and realize its been weeks of playing it and nothing else.
While I was doing some brief research on the game one comment that I found coming up repeatedly was about how people like yourself keep revisiting the game periodically. I really like that it stays fresh on subsequent playthroughs like that. My stash already feels too small haha.
@@MinMaxRPG I use GD item Assistant, its a mod advertised on the Grim Dawn website.
It makes it so the 5th shared stash slot is a dump into a searchable file program on your computer and the 4th stash slot is a retrieval from it.
Just make sure you install it on the same drive as the game, and do not worry if a virus warning comes up, its 100% safe been using it for years.
@@MinMaxRPGI highly recommend item assistant, an external offline tool that can store extra items. Before I got it I was making 10s of dummy characters to hold my excess uniques and worse, I was just selling a lot of Monster Infrequents
@@MinMaxRPG Titan Quest is also under-rated. Available in 2 flavours.. PS4 and PC with ALL the expansions or Xbox where you have to buy Ragnarok and Atlantis seperate - I waited for sale on Xbox version... Worth the money as a bigger game than most. Completed and then I was picking up epic drops that can't be combined with the usual drops. Long game but worth it with the expansions for a re-run on harder level. Can't select higher level until you have completed the game on a previous level.. NO short cuts with this game but it is worth playing through again on a harder level..
OFF topic - ORI games.. I bought for PC and Will of the Wisps ran sluggishly. Decided to get Xbox One X for 4K and was going to buy ORI games.. Didn't need to.. Logged into to Microsoft account and got them with a download on Xbox... I have ORI Blind Forest, Ori Blind Forest DE and ORI Will of the Wisps on Xbox running in 4K at 60FPS on my 58" TV. Best buy this year so far was Xbox One X - everything runs in 4K if your TV supports it. I knew the TV would handle 4K as already running PS4 Pro in 4K. I was just surprised how smoothly the ORI games played tho. NO slowdown and areas load in without you noticing. Well worth the money!!!
Haven't played it in a few years but love it when I did.
Really enjoying it myself. Often see people commenting how they pick the game back up for another playthrough periodically.
It really is a good fully fleshed out game. To me at least one major attraction is the fairly open choice on how you go about killing mobs. You can bonk them with weapon, melt them with spells and curses, use pets to maul/zap them to dust, or my two personal favored ones, use retaliation gear/talents etc... and watch mobs kill them self's or use passive auras to melt anything that comes near you. You can absolutely be a pure glass cannon, pumping silly damage and dying to a slight breeze, or be a literally unkillable tanking behemoth. You can have a piano skill build if you like extremely active and reactive gaming, or play a build around auto attacks that proc a plethora of other skills and effects. The game has a lot of freedom in choices for the player. Now, about the endgame... grim dawn endgame is not easy, nor is it meant to be. Most builds cannot clear all endgame bosses, in fact very few builds can with very specific gearing, but would you ever want it any other way? if endgame was easily clearable by any and all classes and skills, where would the challenge be? By the way, You should perhaps consider doing a HC playthrough. Grim Dawns HC mode is one of the few i personally have enjoyed, because you can actually do it fully solo-self found and not have major pitfalls that ruin the run, because you lack something that makes it impossible to progress without dying. If you are missing something, there are always ways to get it or something comparable as a placeholder, that gets the job done. all in all an extremely satisfying experience.
Amazing arpg. Anyone who disagrees, isn't an arpg purist.
Ya, this has been a ton of fun so far. Really glad I gave it a try and will definitely show some builds once I establish them and get further. There are so many directions you can go, and it all seems viable.
I wouldnt call myself a purist.
I will call grim dawn spectacular.
Well, let's start with the fact that Grim Dawn is NOT any RPG, ok?
Ive played d2 for decades. This game bores the shit out of me. Cant pinpoint why exactly, all the gear just feels so boring and uninteresting.
@@zander2429 Are you a masochist or just russian?
never heard about anyone complaining about this games endgame, its by far the best in the market, last epoch seems more interesting because of its structure, but its not actualy as fun in practice, here you have roguelike dungeons, nemesis faction bosses in the open world, diablo like rifts,a horde mode, uber bosses, rep farming,(also alts serve as a good ''endgame'' activity that you cant get in diablo for example),and the expansion will bring something new plus enhancements to previous modes
A horde mode??? Whats that :O ? Ive played GD on and off for years but somehow never went pass the Normal difficulty except for 2 days ago! Finally! Is the Horde Mode something available in Ultimate ?
@@Balryon its a dlc you buy, crucible,it comes with the definitive edition on sale often
@@deenman23 Thanks mate! :)
how do you hold a weapon and a skull at the same time? what lvl do i need to be ? or what skill do i need to have ?
The theory crafting with the class combo synergy, monster infrequent items, and devotions make this the most replayable game I've ever played. I've become addicted to hardcore and have been able to consistently survive to endgame using my own builds which sometimes revolve around 1 weapon or set.
Played the game twice a few years ago, plus the first DLC, planning on playing again around the end of the year once the third DLC content is out and I'll buy the second and third DLC.
It's clear to see that Grim Dawn is a passion project from them that they care about the game with all the updates and extra content being made, it's hard not to reward them for that, especially as it's one of the better Diablo like RPG games on the market.
I can't say about the complexity of the game mechanics, I didn't have any issues with it when I played it a few years ago, and I'm assuming that it's not much different now, unlike Path of Exile, which I do like the game but it's just too complicated that I've tried to play the game 3 times but got fed up with it, hopefully, Path of Exile 2 is better in that regard, and don't get me wrong, I like having many options, but sometimes it can get a bit too much.
I'm very excited for the DLC in Grim Dawn. I agree it's easy to see the effort and care that went in and am happy to purchase the content with that feel.
Of all ARPGs, I enjoy the art style the most. So many little details that bring the world to life, like buildings with signage, well-scaled buildings, creepy tombs and cultist temples, fortresses, don't get me started on how they brought out the beauty of nature.
Then you get into the gameplay...
10/10 game, up there with Path of Exile and Diablo 2.
Are you using any kind of graphical mod or reshade? Or is this just how the game looks on your PC? Because it's great, the colors are so vibrant.
I’ve been on a constant search for something that scratches my Phantasy Star Online itch and going to try this one tonight. If anytime knows anything similar I would love to try. Monster Hunter is close.
I've played it since early access, it's certainly in my top 2 of all time.
I think the only gripe with it is the hit boxes, they used to be better, but a couple of years ago they seemed to get really large, I wish it was how it used to be.
It feels just like if you were playing a single player mmo. It's perfect!
Hey what arpg like this would you recommended for first players. I want to play with a friend who needs an easy to learn one.
Another Grim Dawn enjoyer :). I should re play it at some point haha. Awesome game.
Really enjoying this game still. Only managed to get to level 50 atm but definitely plan to finish the story and check out the endgame.
it took several times for this one to click, but it has really grown on me. Can't wait for the next DLC.
Any competitive aspects? Online group events ? Or just play just for the sake of playing ?
Grim Dawn League (currently in session until January). Visit official forum and mods for details. Tons of extra items and content. A ladder with a lot of challenges to score points.
Finding random secrets with powerful bosses where u get back when u get stronger is best feeling u dont need to grind as in other games because its offline
the number of items, monsters, champion and hero monsters, bosses, nemesis bosses, ultra bosses ect is absolutely untold... until some one make a artful and comprehensive spreadsheet...
And the quantity is ridiculous, but for a game of repetition, this novelty is what sets it apart.
It’s 3 bucks on steam right now
Thank you for the review, it really boosted me but the game is a little bit expensive for my country's economy. Do you think Torchlight 1 is a good alternative for this game?
Amazing game, the best ARPG of all time IMO I love depth of crafting which is pretty insane tbh.
One of the best of its kind made. Probably the best arpg for hardcore players
And the replay ability with mods is just amazing personally I highly recommend the diablo 2 mod for this game and dawn of masteries but there are so many that are all great just give them a go if they sound cool
I was on the fence about buying this. Been looking for a new arpg to play since I grew tired of diablo 4 and a few others. This review sold me on it so thank you.
You're welcome, enjoy it's a lot of fun to make different builds and use all the cool stuff you find!
Look up toward the top...Diablo IV is crap.. Buy Xbox DE version if you can. ALL addons included. Look above after just 2 months playing Xbox version... I know the game too well due to PC version.. lvl62 now - close to lvl63...Well worth it.
if grafx and non-guarandeed seth itemce dröpps dosent mind-scare you youve found your master.? 3-7% improvement and jewll survive ^ ^ somehow feels organikc??
just bought wolcen on a wait to quite interesting or promissink lootink? xile 2 v?v on the same hour almost as that too big map (n fig!) diablo style epoch stuff.
wish me luck. well have thousands off hours in gd and well my most played game even with bl and fo´$. simply decent.

i passed on buying this game in 2021 (thought it looked meh) Then picked it up on heavy discount in 2023 and have logged 300hrs since then, it is easily the most beginner friendly ARPG that still rewards veterans of the genre. The lore is easily 10/10. Gameplay 11/10. It is the only ARPG i even consider playing hardcore, because im always making new characters anyway.
I ve done it in hardcore ultimate, one of the best game experience
my favorite arpg - side note, I recommend turning off anti aliasing, makes it too blurry for my tastes
Ive made 90% steam achievements in this game and its the best ARPG i have ever played, i loved everything about it. i really wish they made DLC or grim dawn 2. i would even donate towards it if they opened a go fund page.
the developers are releasing a new dlc later this year
That's awesome and there is a dlc coming. That is actually part of the reason I picked it up myself.
@@obsidianchill3834 amazing
Do a lot of people still play this? I am also looking for something fun to play with a friend of mine where we can fight alongside each other like Diablo 4
You can definitely do that. Online coop is a feature. Once you get familiar with the game there's some fun things you can do in coop that don't work as well in single player.
a great game with great atmosphere and music-
I've really enjoyed my time with Grim Dawn. Excited for the DLC and to make more videos on that when it comes.
always loved grim dawn and the developpers who made great work while listening their community !
But i can still see two big CONS in with this game : the old system where you have to make another campaign in harder difficulty (i always found that boring in diablo 2 back in the days, and nowadays, it is still annoying as hell, and especially once you wanna reroll and try new builds...) (making 10000 times the story is just a pain in the arse imho)
And secondly, i think (just like in titan quest) that there are way too many ingredients in those games... Having 10% of them would be plenty enough to farm and have fun...
Cheers
Love the lore of that game.
with dual wielding pistol this game became a shooter for me hehehe
Playing d4 and last epoch but not poe should be illegal, tbh
Haha, I used to play PoE prior to making videos so that's why you don't see it on the channel. I will play and cover PoE 2 though.
Most gamers are not going to like POE. It is far too complicated (for no reason most of the time) and takes far too much time investment to be able to get to all the good stuff. Add on top of that, the games developers are quite hostile to the casual/semi-casual player makes it a niche game that the streamers and no-lifers will enjoy but stinks for everyone else. I started playing POE in 3.7 Legion league. I made POE my main game after 4K hours in Grim Dawn and even more in D3 & D2. All was well until 3.15 and the big player power nerf. The developers wanted to try to slow down the top end of the player base. What they did was nuked the casual players. Their nerfs did nothing to slow down the people who were trivializing the content. I went from doing red maps to being stuck in yellow maps. Following leagues got worse with the changes made. I now play less than a week of POE each league. I used to play an average of seven characters into red maps. Last league I quit after three days. People with jobs, friends and families typically have limited time to play games. POE is not for those people. LE and D4 are for the casual players.
a dual class system, good old titan quest.
Excited for TQ2 as well!
GD has the same game engine as TQ in i think they have the same devs but not the same studio
I have GD-DE on Xbox One X - Far better than Diablo games. Running through the Conclave at the moment. Lvl 62 Demolitioneer with a Necro 2nd build. Health regen is 96% and mana is 75%+.. Only big bosses cause me trouble and a few deaths. Willing to help others out with a fresh build from me. NOT a PK, prefer Co-Op.. Pick-up filter is set to magic upwards - hard start but worth it.. ALL my equipment is blue or purple - epic or legendary. Needs to be seen. Let me get some help and I'll record a video.. okay?
OH.. Running is the best description that I could give. Nothing lives with me. Minor bosses are dead within 5 seconds. Demonlitioneer maxed out with what I need.. Mark of Dreeg on weapons.. The rest you will see with the video...
If you ever want any help/advice with PS4 Pro/PSVR or Xbox One X then just ask. I don't mind helping out.. Found out last week that the owners of the hostel where I live want me to look after it.. Already had 6 evictions before I even started. Got a gardener now to team up with the other 2.. Got a good rocker now that knew me about 2 years ago. We're getting there but I will need help. Maybe the rocker will hold the camera for me..
Its a very good game, good choice
This game looks like titan quest, but darker.
Same engine, same developer. Both incredible games.
Issue is most of these old games are good but fail to update to modern audiences or its improperly implemented
That's a very solid point. With so many titles you really have to be on point with everything imo.
who gives a flying fuck about controller support on a PC game, if that's what a modern audience is they can all go fuck themselves, these games play like shit on controller anyway no matter how "properly" implemented it is
Kinda looks like dawn of magic
Graphics and animation are throwing me off big time
I once felt exactly the same way. Eventually, after reading so many folks praising GD as the true successor to Diablo II, I played it. Only a half hour into the game, I was hooked. They were right.
Golden game.
male/female .. take me back
You sound like you don't really want to put a lot of effort out.
Your play style sounds like, the on the rails going in a straight line, kill everything in front of you and don't deviate. Exploring is way too difficult for you to deal with. Also your complaint about the game being difficult I don't understand you would have to be an idiot not to get how to play this game. But then there is the new generation which need to be led around by the nose and told what to do.
Grim Dawn is the best.
gameplay just looks outdated for 2024 :
>didnt play engame
>say game is great
try diablo then lol
game looks like crap... visually, worse than D3
graphics are so bad tho
