Nagaland will never be part of India in the long run and that is why political talks has been going on for decades at the highest level. Nagas were/are never Indian and will never be. Nobody likes Indian anyway, step outside and ask around. You can't force people to be you against their will and desires, it simply doesn't work. Forcing people to be you is an outdated practice. The old politicians will age out anyhow.
A street interview at Kohima will open your eyes to the ground realities and the misconception about looks.

I studied in a convent and I had friends from the north east since I was a kid and they're the ones who introduced me to Korean dramas and music. 😂 though I'm not into kpop anymore since its childish but love for legend groups is still there of course. But Korean film industry is sooooo underrated. I like it the best. Even more than kdramas.
I'm in love with Japan since I was a kid but Korea came WAAAAAY later and my north east friends are the ones who spread your culture in India mostly and its not completely foreign to us because we are familiar with Korean looks and styles already in our country.

Not indian, I'm Filipino but this really opened my eyes! When the people being interviewed say they faced discrimination from the people who live in the same country as them shows that racism happens everywhere, not just whites vs POC. in the Philippines, people with lighter skin and European features are treated better than those who have darker skin (morena) features.
I also learned through this video that India is a very diverse country!! lol living in Canada Ive met lots of Indians (i lived in a highly populated Indian community from gr 5-9) but 90% ive talked to are from the south or mainland as the people in this video have mentioned. Ive always had this assumption that everyone in India looks the same and speaks the same language.

      Nagas are not Indian.
Nagalim/Nagaland was invaded and colonized by the British in the late 1870s. But it was administered as separate entity from British India... meaning it was not part of British India. Before India was given independence Britast kept Nagalim/Naga Hills as an "Excluded Areas" and was not part of independent India. But sadly India and Myanmar came to Nagalim/Nagaland in early 1950 uninvited and forcefully occupied them. It is worth mentioning that Nagaland/Nagalim declared independence on 14 August 1947 one day before India's independence. NAGAS ARE NOT INDIA.

@Pia Tshering I don't know how much you know about the history of Indian subcontinent but India that we know today was never one dominion. It was a fragmented land divided into various kingdoms and princely states. The republic of India came into existence only 70 something years ago. Not many people had travelled from north to south or from the East to the west. But now things are changing with the advent of technology and education reaching at every corner of our country people are becoming more and more inclusive and accepting. Yes there are a lot of idiots who are racist but one should not generalise an entire section of India based on such experience. I think the way forward is for everyone to correct the wrong when you see anyone misbehaving or being racist to our own countrymen we must speak up and show that moron his place. There's no space for racism in India we're one and are proud of our diversity.
And yes, it is also a propaganda by the Chinese who're trying to take advantage of it but they'll fail miserably. I'm not even concerned... you see this is the India of 2020 not 1960. India is powerful, self reliant and respected worldwide and has more allies to support her in case there's a war.

The reason of referring to the rest of India as mainland is coz NE is culturally very different and is usually left out when India is discussed...For eg: Mainstream media, School Textbooks, mainstream film industry and even in the national anthem....On top of that the racism which locals face when they move to cities like Delhi, Bangalore etc to study or jobs....However that doesn't mean at all that NE people don't consider themselves Indians.

We the Rongmei people of North East India are genetically closer to Tibetans and Chinese. It is believed that Rongmei tribes migrated from Yunnan, China between 200 BC to 700 AD. When emperor Shi Huangdi captured Dian kingdom in 107 BC, many Dian ethnic groups mass migrated to South East Asia like Thailand, Vietnam, and Burma. Dian tribes practice jhum cultivation and bury their dead in vertical position. The last migration took place in 700 AD when Miao ethnic groups where displaced by Tang dynasty. Miao descendants were part of the earlier Dian tribes of 200 BC. The Hmong groups were the biggest ethnic groups of Miao tribes which is now scattered in Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Burma. So based on the genetic study of Rongmei tribes and it's close relationships with the Chinese and koreans, it may conclude that Rongmei tribes migrated from Yunnan province to escape the tyranny of emperor Shi Huandi, the first emperor of China and Qin dynasty who build the great wall of China somewhere 300 BC to 100 BC. It is likely that Rongmei tribes were once part of the Dian ethnic tribes or Yelang groups who settled down in Yunnan between 200BC to 100 BC. After the fall of Dian kingdom in 107 BC, many Dian ethnic tribes further migrated to South, South East and South western Asia. The present day Tai Ahom of upper Assam, Tai people of upper Burma, the bodos of Assam, the Nagas, kukis, meiteis etc were once part of the same ethnic tribes of Yunnan. They all speak tibeto Burmese language, practice slash and burn cultivation and were head hunters. The Han Chinese called them barbarians of Yunnan.
Many folklores of meiteis, kukis, nagas, Zomis, bodos, bru etc are quite similar and will trace their origins from a cave. Almost all their Languages are quite similar denoting their coexistence since time immemorial. Some of the Ladakhis, Tibetans and upper Burmese language have some similarity with the North Eastern tribes of India.
It was the Britishers who United North East with the mainland Indians. Now North East tribes have special status and protections under the Indian government. Recent developments in infrastructure in North East India are helping the tribals to come closer to mainland India. Though we may look different or have different history, but now we are all Indians and have contributed a lot for the Indian growth.

I understand that these incidents may have caused feelings of hurt, fear, and insecurity, and as a fellow Indian, I share your pain and anguish. It is important to remember that diversity is one of the greatest strengths of our country, and we must embrace and celebrate our differences rather than use them to divide us.
We must stand together in solidarity and take collective action to address and eradicate any form of discrimination or bias, and create a society where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected. We need to educate ourselves and others about the rich cultural heritage of the North East, its people, and its contributions to our nation's progress.

I remembered when I went to Goa everyone was shocked when I told that I'am Northeastern(Assam). They thought I am bengali or punjabi😜 but my uncle looks like a chinese or japenese and he had often got discriminated when he went to dubai but my father is not. They think that my father is punjabi and my mother is bengali and so my aunt looks like a dravidian(south indian look).
I just want to say that the majority of assamese people have a look like the people of mainland india because nearly 60 percent people dont look like mongoloids but the rest of northeast do. So we should not discriminate them🙏

Many northeast people say that they are victims of racism when they go to North India or Central India...but being from Bihar I have lived in the Northeast (specifically in Nagaland, Manipur & Mizoram) as my father worked in CRPF as a SO and thanks to my dark skinned complexion I have always been treated with nicknames like kalia, kauwa, koyla, kallu, chocolate, bihari etc. because most of my classmates were from northeast and were pretty fair in color... many a times people would just come to me and talk in a accent of someone eating pan etc.
And for all my childhood which is spent in northeast i.e. from class 1 to 12, I have been nicknamed in my school based on the color of my skin at one point it became so much that the only time my name (Sanidhya) was rightly pronounced was during examination attendance...I'm just mentioning this based on personal incidents which happen with me....currently I'm 2nd year student so these experiences are not some decades old things..
My motive is not to spread hate nor do I'm promoting that one should be racist against Northeast Indians by calling them Japanese or Chinese they are as Indian as any other citizen of the nation...but all I'm mentioning is, this goes both ways...and if it is to stop it has to stop both ways...if calling someone chinki is wrong, which it is...then calling someone koyla, kalua etc. is also wrong.

A nation is a socially constructed community, imagined by the people who perceive themselves as part of that group.
The media also creates imagined communities, through usually targeting a mass audience or generalizing and addressing citizens as the public. Another way that the media can create imagined communities is through the use of images. The media can perpetuate stereotypes through certain images and vernacular. By showing certain images, the audience will choose which image they relate to the most, furthering the relationship to that imagined community.

They’ve told me the same experiences/stories they had that was mentioned here in this video. The moment they came in our dorm (I arrived in Japan ahead of them for three months), we instantly felt that sibling-like connection. They treated me like their own family. @@happinessesss agreed. however using that logic, one might conclude that the latinos have supposedly lived in america long enough, that it is their land even though the natives were "american indians". It is just as important to acknowledge native culture as it is to respect others. Perhaps another analogy could be used here. For instance, the "Kashmiri pandits" were native to Kashmir, however they had moved out for security reasons. As a result, almost all of Kashmir's remaining people in the modern day follow islam. Would you perhaps argue that Kashmir is not the land of hindus due to this? My ancestors have been living in north east india for milennia, yet I'm still seen as an outsider because it is dominated by people of sino-tibetan descent.
