This is my son in law. Savannah is my daughter. Kenleigh my granddaughter. & now baby Jonothan, born on 2-22-22. He will.never get to know his dad. Savannah and Jonothan were happy, had planned their baby, had their whole future ahead of them. Young,happy, and in love. When suddenly their future snacthed away, by a murderer. The boy who killed him, was in his own platoon. His name is jaden rohlfs. He is from florida. They were just doing a walk thru of the building they were to train at the next morning. They said all marines know the rules of their weapons, never point at, nor tahe off safety, nor pull the trigger, unless ur life is in immediate danger. Well this murderer did all that pointed his gun at his fellow marine, took the safety off, along with pulling the trigger. Resulting in the death of Jonothan. Therefore he straight out murdered him. The weapons had already been checked and cleared that night, yet rolphs had a live round in his gun, plus another live round in his pocket, the testimony in the court room was that they heard live fire, so as they ran into the building(the ones that hadnt entered yet) rolphs after shooting Jonothan, had thrown his gun down, ran outta the room and to the end of a hallway, where he slid down against the wall, took the live round outta his pocket and attempted hiding it in the sand. While declaring "f*** this s***. So not only did the marine core fail Jonothan they totally did him injustice. All they did to this murderer was give him a dishonoable discharge and 24 months in the brig !! And to make matters worse, they realeased him after serving only 18 months. It was a slap in our face ! 18 months was all Jonothans life was to them. I no longer have any respect for our military nor our government. For his fellow marines i have respect to the ones who really cared for him. RIP Lance Corporal Jonothan Franklin Barnette U are loved and will forever be missed. Losing Jonothan altered our lives forever. Our family wheel is now broken....
This is disgraceful for the Corps, I thought the first rule of handling any firearm even in dry fire was to always treat it as a loaded weapon even if the chamber and magazine are empty and most of all to NEVER POINT IT AT ANYONE OTHER THAN A THREAT... so this coming from Marines, which I really do admire and respect, is just unacceptable and unbelievable.

This is unbelievable, so many failures if just one person had done there job it could have been avoided! The person who fired the shot will be living with this there whole life, but there a others who should shoulder some of the blame. They are going to need extra counselors at 29 palms
