  • A rake was a fashionable youth or young, joyful bachelor who led a somewhat dissolute life, who has fun as long as he can before settling down with marriage. This tune celebrates such young men from the town of Mallow in County Cork, Ireland.
    The song was featured for fight scenes in the films “The Quiet Man” (1952) and “1941” (1979), as well as for a montage sequence in the 1993 film, “Rudy”. It was also used in the dancing sequence of Disney's “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”.

    Mallow is in County Cork one of the most southernly counties in Ireland.
